A truck driver from Indiana recently found himself on a pedestrian bridge crossing in Milwaukee's Lake Park. The 50-year-old rig operator later blamed the entire ordeal on a GPS.

The truck managed to do quite a bit of damage in Tuesday’s incident. It was driven onto two historic pedestrian crossings before it got stuck.

After making it across one bridge, the driver continued moving, causing the rig to knock over a tree. It then struck concrete on the second crossing and the cab and 53-foot trailer came to a stop.

Cement was left scuffed up and a railing was badly damaged. A witness to the scene remarked “It’s not something you’re going to see every day. You’ve got to be totally embarrassed though! It’s mind-boggling either way! It says on the truck ‘we drive a fine line,’ and I think that’s fabulous.”

Officials from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office have said that the driver’s GPS indicated the path leading to the walking and cycling bridges was a road.

Both crossings have since been inspected and it’s deemed they are still structurally safe for pedestrian travel. The driver has been fined more than $500 for reckless driving and failure to obey signs.

It reportedly took four hours and two tow trucks to remove the rig from the scene.
