"I visited the UK's most expensive chippy in Harrods - my local chippy is better"

A man who tried the UK's most expensive fish and chips claims they're "bland" and his local chippy is better.

Callum Ryan, 23, decided to bite the bullet and dine at Kerridge's Fish & Chips, located in world famous luxury store Harrods in London on August 5 for lunch.

He forked out an eye-watering £37.00 for one portion of fish and chips and £4.95 for a glass of coke.

Callum, a content creator, from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, said: "I was really excited to go along a give it a try but I was disappointed.

"The food was average and I'd honestly rather go to my local chippy.

"It's the most expensive fish and chips in the UK and I'd expect a bit more.

"I was a little bit disappointed with how bland it looked and tasted

"It was a really nice and cool atmosphere but I don't think it's worth the price - it's just fish and chips at the end of the day."

Included in the cost was a £1 "cover charge" which Callum had never seen before.

"I guess it must just be a posh people thing," he said.

Kerridge's Fish & Chips was opened by celebrity chef Tom Kerridge in June 2021 with it immediately coming under fire for its steep pricing.

Tom Kerridge previously told Times Radio: "I’m seen as a man of the people, so when I put fish and chips on for £35, they shout at me for it being expensive.

“But the people criticising me don’t understand how it’s priced."

Callum said despite the price, the atmosphere of the restaurant was "great" and the service by staff was "10 out of 10."

But he says the price would put him off from going back again.

"If I had spent a tenner I'd be happy, but I just can't justify it at that price," Callum said.

"The sauces, particularly the curry sauce, were amazing.

"If the price was different it would have been an enjoyable experience."

Breakdown of spend -
Portion of fish & chips - £37.00
Glass of coke - £4.95
Cover charge - £1
Service charge - £5.24
Total - £48.19

00:00I bought the most expensive fish and chips in the UK and you will not believe how much it cost.
00:04Based inside Harrods is Kerridge's famous fish and chip restaurant. As you can see,
00:07the restaurant inside is absolutely beautiful and it's the perfect spot for a bit of food.
00:10So whilst I was there, I ordered the Haddock, which was the catch of the day,
00:12and also a Coca-Cola. And when it arrived, there was just nine chips. Yes, only nine.
00:17I can't wait for you to see how much I paid for this. Anyway, now it's time for the important
00:20part. It's time to try it. The food was freshly caught, which set my expectations really high.
00:24But honestly, despite the luxury setting, the fish and chips were surprisingly average. I'd
00:28have to say probably a six out of 10. And this is a bold statement, but it was no better than
00:31my local chippy. Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere and the sauces made it a pleasant experience,
00:34but wait until you hear about the cost. £37. And with a load of extras that they chucked onto the
00:39bill, it hit £48.19. My advice would be to stick to your local.
