Police in Philadelphia are actively searching for the suspect or suspects behind a troubling crime. A 29-year-old man was recently shot and killed directly following a knock at the door.

According to local law enforcement, the victim had been inside his residence located in the East Mount Airy section of the city. It was a little before midnight on a Sunday night when a knock was heard at the door so the man got up to respond to it.

As the victim looked through the peep hole, two gun shots were fired. The male was shot in the face and died at the scene.

Police say the gunman, who may have been with an accomplice, fled away from the home on foot. Cops have launched an investigation into the disturbing incident and interviewed family members who were inside the residence at the time of the shooting.

Thus far, no suspects have been named. Investigators have searched the neighborhood and were reportedly looking for surveillance footage.

No motive has been released for the crime, but police did say the shots came from the outside and the shooter never gained entry inside the home. The department is now pleading with the public for information.
