PRESENTED BY AL PARKINSON

Formed in 2007 the quartet Hollow Everdaze project a sound to represent feelings of ruralism and original ambitions in their period of time they have played alongside the likes of Unknown Mortal Orchestra ,Wavves and The Preatures their lp is a snapshot of the band after countless cycles of upheaval, musical transition and change. The lp captures the urgency of a band who ---- after settling into their current four-piece line-up ---- have traced their own weird, divergent path through the haunted backwoods of songwriting.

It's a striking and diverse listen. On 'Ships', spectral vocals hover over shimmering waves of Eno-like guitar and synth swells. 'Selfish', meanwhile, offers a snarling counterbalance, bursting into a chugging and cavernous chord progression a-la the Cramps, but substituting their demented schlock-horror for a youthful, pained desperation.

To record the album, the band sought out renowned Melbourne sound engineer Lindsay Gravina, whose production has defined the sound of some of the band's most revered Melbourne artists, including Rowland S. Howard, Hungry Ghosts, and New War.

Together, they've made an an album that is lush, dynamic and perfectly unhinged. It swells and contracts in one continuous sweep, recalling the bursts of squall on Mogwai's Ten Rapid or the hazy narcosis of Deerhunter at their most hypnotic.

Thematically, the album confronts the restlessness and small-minded attitudes of rural Australia while marvelling at the strange beauty that such a landscape can create, too. It is the product of haunted jam-rooms, constant metamorphosis, and a yearning to escape the mundanity of the everyday.
