The Lonely Wild is poised to record their most ambitious album to date. Working with producer John Vanderslice at his famed Tiny Telephone studios in San Francisco, the Angeleno quintet will be recording and mixing strictly to analog tape in an effort to capture the magic of a bygone era of rock ‘n’ roll that inspires their sound.
In 2011 The Lonely Wild emerged as a band of multi-instrumentalists whose writing and arranging talents were only surpassed their ability to work seamlessly as a singular, dynamic voice. Pulling from 1960’s western cinema, Laurel Canyon vocal stylings, and the adventurous spirit of The British Invasion, The Lonely Wild pushed these sounds to new uncharted territories and achieved the contradictory feat of reminding listeners of something they had never heard.
Their 2012 debut EP, Dead End, laid the foundation for their 2013 full-length follow-up, The Sun As It Comes, which propelled them to the national stage and earned them radio play on taste-making stations across the country, including KCRW, The Current, WRLT Nashville, and KDHX St. Louis.
Consequence of Sound raved, “The Sun As It Comes is a masterpiece of harmonious country rock.” American Songwriter called the record “an anthemic album [...] equal parts western, southern and something not quite defined by geographic adjectives.” And Indecent Xposure proclaimed, “With them, indie rock has a whole new sound.”
Their latest single, “Holidays,” is a psychedelic, shoe-gaze dreamscape that culminates in a Crazy Horse-esque freak-out stomp. Carroll and Williams croon in tandem, empathizing with the fatigue so many of us feel during the holiday season. They sing, “Holidays are coming to rip your heart open. Just don’t freak out. Just don’t let me down.” The song arrives just in time to hold fans over until The Lonely Wild’s next big release in 2015.
