Ten digital natives -also ACM journalists- set out to uncover how two decades of social media has shaped Australia today.

00:00A lot of the girls on social media are models or is photoshopped, so teenage girls especially
00:08that see that, they look at themselves and go, like, why am I different?
00:12Why do I look different?
00:13And their whole life starts to revolve around trying to look like and those are the influences
00:17that they look up to on social media.
00:22And they're quick videos and next thing you know, there could be like guns in the next
00:26one.
00:31The rise of myths and disinformation, for young people with, you know, minds being influenced
00:39by a range of different thoughts and attitudes and behaviour and the ability for algorithms
00:44to really push them down these unhealthy echo chambers, that can be really problematic at
00:50such a young age because that's what's shaping their world view.
