DC's Serenity Statue Vandalized

Washington D.C.'s Serenity statue is vandalized.

Historically important statues can unfortunately become the targets of vandals. Recently, culprits defaced the white marble “Serenity” statue in Washington D.C.’s Meridian Hill Park. Prior to the vandalism act, the outdoor piece was far from perfect due to cracks and the loss of the statue’s nose and hand.

However the new malicious paintjob turns the once white face to black with an added sinister red smile. According to a spokesperson for the National Park Service, “We've got a plan in place: later this week we're going to use a solution that is used for graffiti removal. It is the beginning of the spring season. We do come out of the winter hibernation and start getting the parks ready.”

That’s good news for residents as the park serves as grounds for families, children and even weddings.

Last year, a Connecticut woman, Darlene Fraga had a Virgin Mary statue in her front yard. During the summer, someone decapitated the statue and subsequently, its head was replaced with a genome.
