Can Just the Power of Mind Make Us Warmer?

Check out if the power of the mind can increase our body temperatures.

Tibetan Buddhist nuns have proven that they can alter the temperature of their bodies using a specific kind of meditation.
A study conducted by researchers from the National University of Singapore’s Department of Psychology shows that the nuns can raise their body temperature to almost 101 degrees using g-tummo meditation.

This kind of meditation requires vase breathing techniques and mental visualization.

Associate Professor Maria Kozhevnikov, who worked on the study said: "Practicing vase breathing alone is a safe technique to regulate core body temperature…The participants whom I taught this technique to were able to elevate their body temperature, within limits, and reported feeling more energized and focused.”

Core temperature regulation can also help strengthen a person’s immune system to fight off infections and disease.

Another experiment on the effects of mediation found that meditating before class can help students get better grades.

Researchers from George Mason University and the University of Illinois took a random sample of university students at one California university and had them meditate before a lecture to see if they scored better on a follow up quiz than students who didn’t meditate.

The results of the study showed that the students who meditated before class got higher scores on the quiz.

What do you think? Is it possible to alter your mind and body by using meditation?
