McDonald's is using a DNA spray to catch thieves in Australia.
McDonald’s restaurants in Australia are utilizing a new security system that sprays thieves with a synthetic DNA solution.
The solution glows when it is exposed to UV light, and connects the thief with the specific store location.
After a few seemingly unconnected robberies of McDonald’s in Sydney, the security is being ramped up to deter potential robbers and the spray is being installed at McDonald’s locations across Australia.
A McDonald's spokesperson said: "It's a great deterrent. During the trial the restaurants experienced zero robberies and reduced instances of anti-social behaviour.”
The spray is made by a company called SelectaDNA.
The spray heads are placed at the doors to be released on offenders when activated.
Another interesting DNA related prevention technique is used on dogs and owners who don’t pick up their pet’s waste.
Authorities in Germany and the United States use a database of dog DNA to match dog poop left on sidewalks or lawns with the offending animals.
