The street performers and buskers of Dublin will be facing some new rules.

The pilot program being proposed will include limited performance times, volume control, no use of drumkits, no sale of merchandise and a playlist of at least 20 songs.

The voluntary code was written by the street performers themselves, along with the input of local Dublin City business owners and Council.

Dublin City Council Arts Officer Jim Doyle states, "The code as it stands is self-policing and most of the buskers are getting on board.”

But not everyone thinks the new policies will change the concerns of local traders with some believing it disrupts their business.

Busking has been a part of every culture across the globe for centuries and some famous musicians and artists began their careers on the streets.

Benjamin Franklin used to read his political poetry and prose out in public until his father persuaded him to stop.

Tracy Chapman began busking in Harvard Square when she was a student at Tufts University and

Eric Clapton, one of the best guitarist of all time, performed on the streets of London and West End during his early musical years.
