PRESENTED BY CROW
BROUGHT TO YOU IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE RHYTHM BUILDING at MUSIC ROW in NASHVILLE TENNESSEE and THERECORDSHOPNASHVILLE.COM

Vinyl Thief stems from humble beginnings. Forming in the small town of Columbia, Tennessee as simply a group of friends, Vinyl Thief found a musical direction that they have been developing for four years now. With an old, abandoned church cathedral at their disposal for writing and recording, the band was able to craft unique sounds big enough to fill the most spacious of venues.

Though the five band members—Grayson Proctor (vocals, synthesizers), Sam English (Rhodes, synthesizers, background vocals), Andrew Broadway (drums, percussion, programming), Logan Purdom (guitars, textures) and Alec Carpenter (bass)—are barely into their 20s, their talent suggests years of experience. Their songs are textured, soaring, self-confident, their debut EP fully realized.

The Control - EP emerges from a mish-mash of influences, from the usual (U2, Radiohead, Daft Punk) to the retro (Tears for Fears, David Bowie) to the disparate (Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis). It was in an old, abandoned church cathedral that this EP was written, resulting in a sound quality bigger than most young bands dream of. They have a rule that there can be "no mediocrity" from any department of the band, causing them to shape every sound and note until it is absolutely perfect. The band attempts to merge a new kind of dance with soaring rock, allowing the music to feel more at home in a large, European discotheque than the blues bars of their hometown.

At the top of the band's priority list is the live show. The band has played every venue in Nashville multiple times as well as numerous regional shows including Birmingham, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Memphis, St. Louis, Little Rock and many more, using each show as a learning experience on how to improve their performance. Taking first place in a battle of the bands, music industry judge Jeff Cueller of AC Entertainment said of the band's performance, "If I closed my eyes, I could picture you guys playing at Bonnaroo or some other large music festival." The band has only progressed from here, putting countless hours into ways to improve their show, making continual advancements.

Vinyl Thief will be a band you will want to become familiar with as they grow. They show no signs of letting up, and are currently writing their first, full-length record (release date TBD).
