Violet Night come from the small town of Chetwynd in the middle of British Columbia Canada. Three musicians brought together by a shared love of the 80’s and emotion triggering modern indie-pop, these talented young men are showing the world that you don’t need to originate from a big city to play great music. Founding member Connor Pohl was playing in the band City Light Vigil when he decided he wanted to create something fresh and different. ‘Violet Night’ started with his friend T.J. Rounthwaite, originally as a 2-piece.
The duo joined forces in 2014 after years of talk about playing music together, although T.J. was reluctant to play in a band setting at first as he aspired to score films, but eventually he saw the potential in the music they were creating and had both feet in the water. T.J. is a completely self taught pianist who provides the layered melodies for every song, cultivating intense emotion and feel. From childhood Connor has always been very creative, something he channeled into playing guitar, writing lyrics and singing. Dylan didn’t come into the picture until last summer. Connor met Dylan in 2012 at a City Light Vigil show in Edmonton. Their bands were both playing the same venue and they hit it off instantly. Dylan saw potential and offered to play guitar for them if they ever needed a player, but the only thing they said they needed was a potential drummer for the future. He then bought a drum kit and learned how to play just in case they had an opening. In 2014 Dylan also attended the prestigious Nimbus School in Vancouver B.C. and earned his degrees in Engineering and Studio production. This dedication for music spoke volumes of his character early on, and together as a 3-piece, they bring a sound that is unique, simple and magical.
Violet Night’s debut EP “I Hope You’re Well” has sold well across the globe. Their very first show was headlining ‘The Sound of Summer” music festival in Prince George B.C. this year to a packed house. Their follow up single ‘North’ was released to critical acclaim November 25th and outsold their prior release in just one day. Recording is scheduled for the eagerly anticipated follow-up album this spring 2017 with a fall release date, and an immediate North American tour to follow. Plans are also in the mix to relocate next year to Toronto.
Hailed as “Really good music” by The Examiner and scoring 9/10 with L.A's “The Pop Culture Beast”, the bands sound is reminiscent of acts like: Death Cab for Cutie, Panic & the Disco and twenty one pilots. So let the emotions well up and find yourself awash in the beauty of the music, because this is the kind of group that makes indie folk worth listening to.
“Their music is alluring, lush, dark, and ambient. The piano rock melodies first grab you; then with their swift indie rock vibes the listener is hook, line, and sinkered wanting more.” Eastsleepbreathemusic.com
