PRESENTED BY PAULINE FREEMAN
Sara Lou is a young singer/songwriter and musician from Dungarvan, Co. Waterford with a very promising future. At the young age of four, she started out as an Irish dancer and musician playing flute and tin whistle in the Irish Trad scene, and has since toured Asia, America and the Middle East performing in a prominent Irish dance show. During her dancing years, Sara Lou won four All-Ireland medals, three Scottish and British medals, and was also ranked in the World Irish Dancing Championships. She has also won several national titles for playing the flute and tin whistle. Her burning passion however, has always been singing.
At eighteen years of age, she decided to branch out on her own, and began playing guitar and singing in local venues. Early in 2008 she was the winner of an online talent contest, in the singing category, where she sang a cover song, winning herself a whopping $10,000.
After such an encouraging response, she began to write her own original material, composing some very catchy, melodic tunes and penning some very astute lyrics. Over the next few months, Sara Lou worked tirelessly in the studio where she recorded her debut E.P. entitled See You Soon. This E.P. is a collection of pop/soul sounds, which includes five of her own original songs, five covers and a bonus dance track.
In August 2008, Sara Lou was approached to sing on the soundtrack to the Irish-made movie Insatiable. The film has since toured many of the international film festivals across the globe. Sara Lous song was featured in the closing scene of the movie and plays on to the credits.
Since the beginning of 2009, Sara Lou has performed as guest support for numerous artists including Irish super group Bagatelle, Aslan, Eleanor McEvoy, Mick Flannery, Jimmy Crowley and many more, as well as playing her own gigs nationwide in all the usual established live music venues. With the desire for Sara Lous wonderful and melodious voice, she is constantly in demand gigging nationally, achieving a huge fan base and widespread acclaim for her live performances. She has also performed at various festivals, and on Internet shows such as Balcony TV, Sing For Your Supper, 2XM Radio, and also on numerous radio shows right across the country.
Sara Lou has recently been causing quite a stir amongst music officials throughout Ireland and the U.K., and is quickly becoming regarded as one of the most promising and prolific new talents to emerge from Ireland in recent years. She also received a nomination for Best New Irish Act in the 2009 Balcony TV Music Awards.
Sara Lou is currently back in the studio writing and recording new tracks for her eagerly anticipated debut album, which is due to be completed in early 2010.
