New York City: 5 Off the Beaten Path Attractions - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Leslie Koch: Everyone knows about the classic New York destinations, like the Empire State Building or the World Trade Center, but there are a lot of offbeat destinations that you don’t want to miss. For example, check out a Mets game. It’s our other team, it’s not the Yankees. They aren’t doing very well right now, but that means you can get some great deals on tickets. Also, check out the High Line Park. They’ve recently expanded this park and it features temporary art exhibits and great views of Manhattan. Third, you don’t want to miss Tompkins Square Park, which is where I’m standing right now. There are tons of colorful characters and the cutest dogs I’ve ever seen in New York City. Another place to check out is Astoria, Queens. They have a large Greek population and they have the best Greek restaurants in the city. There are also tons of European cafes. Finally, don’t miss Prospect Heights in Brooklyn. It’s a residential neighborhood and there’s always a stoop sale going on. So, if you think New York City shopping is too expensive, this is a great place to find deals.
