NICHD: Scientific Vision of Reproduction

It was absolutely refreshing to read, as it is full of recommendations that take in a more holistic perspective of the treatment of conditions such as infertility and other gynecological diseases. As a Doctor of Chinese medicine, every patient that walks through the door is evaluated from head to toe, as well as taking into account their socioeconomic, behavioral, epigenetic, and emotional condition.

Main points highlighted that overall health is directly related to reproductive health, and vice versa. That research must expand its scope to include these variables. That overall health affects issues such as obesity and infertility, mood and chronic pain, thyroid and diabetes, and that these all affect reproductive well-being. Quality of life should be assessed, always. And lastly, reproductive health issues may be a signal for other medical conditions.
