Classic footage of the World Rally Championship I covered as the Rallies Correspondent for the BBC during the 1970's & early 1980's............broadcasting to listeners and viewers through out the World was a privilage to behold..
Sadly fears of accidents involving spectators who massed into the special stages with little or no protection , injuries and fatalities DID occur and led to the banning of the ultra quick purpose build cars......it did sadly take the death of spectators on the Sintra stage in Portugal and ultimately the death of Finland's HENRI TOIVONEN & co-driver whilst competing in the 1986 Tour De Corse in Cosica to force the banning of Group B cars.
