Jon Ham's Track Day - Phoenix International Raceway ...

Last week I took my daily driver 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 to PIR (Phoenix International Raceway ) for my “Uncle” Dave’s (not blood related) birthday. We had tons of fun and it was my first time taking my new Mazdaspeed 3 out to the track. I have previously taken my old Speed 3 (2007) to PIR as well as willow springs for track days and the 2010 proved to be very similar. Since this is my daily driver and I drove from Thousand Oaks to Phoenix and back in 3 days for this event, I was not prepared with track wheels and tires. I actually got some really terrible Kumho all season tires the previous week that were absolutely terrible! My front wheels were spinning under acceleration coming out of the corners as the tires fought for grip! It was a fun day, and it was great to see my brother who is now instructing out in Florida at different track events and has become quite a great driver in his own right. Happy birthday to Dr. Dave!
