Cardiff, I love you
Best Programme, Best Editing: Cardiff, I love you by Calum Daly: This film features within a wider collaboration of short romance films set in Cardiff, which pays homage to the film Paris, J’Taime. I wanted to avoid making an ‘arty’, pretentious short that many of the films in Paris… appear to be, often utilising emotive or quirky dialogue in a story that depicts a single powerful scene within a couple’s relationship, usually set within various picturesque locations in Gay Paris. Therefore, I decided to give the film a strong sense of comedy that would underlie the whole plot and often undermine scenes that would otherwise be considered ‘powerful’ or ‘emotive’. I also decided to depict the whole relationship from start to finish within this short, using only one single location (the National Museum, Cardiff) to further distance it from the archetypal Paris… style and to make it feel more ‘British’ (or, perhaps, ‘Welsh’).
