00:00and sam kennedy the president of the boston red sox joins us this morning hey sam
00:05hey good morning guys sam like me you grew up here lived your whole life here
00:10uh of a similar age uh 1986 celtics versus this team who curtis curtis brought this up who wins
00:21yeah that's a great question um i think this team i think there you go
00:25yeah it's close but i think i think this team and it that's it's a hard call but uh these guys are
00:33guys are unstoppable greg on an island yeah he's on an island it hurts me sam i to agree with curtis
00:40more i'm sure yeah i have to agree with him
00:45sam lucas giolito expected to make his return next week i thought it was really interesting uh his
00:50interview with mass live where he said he feels like he's been stealing money the front office
00:55i'm sure doesn't feel that way but for lucas to feel that what what can you say about it
01:01well he he has expressed that and and we understand that but when you when you have an injury of his
01:08magnitude it's it's part of the game and um you know it we never in a million years would have thought
01:14that we would have ended up where we did with him just given how much of a horse he'd been throughout
01:19his career so you can do all the due diligence you want all the research look at all the numbers
01:25and injuries are just an unexpected part of the game it's been brutal for him more than anything
01:32else but we're excited to get him back i think he'll go tuesday night uh is the current plan so it'll
01:38be great to see him back in action and we just had liam come back same thing and these guys do they feel
01:45like they feel guilty um i've got a great relationship with chris sale i can tell you he
01:51he feels the same way especially when you get to play in boston when you're not able to go out there and
01:56play in front of the best fans it's it's brutal so i'm gonna be excited to get him back giolito like
02:03shine apparently a huge pokemon guy
02:08really that is something i know nothing nothing about nothing i can offer nothing on that topic
02:14well like most adults not a pokemon guy not a pokemon i'd be happy to teach you sam i think he's busy
02:23i'll call you when i drop my other 947 hobbies that's good um speaking of things that were nice to
02:30hear garrett crochet yesterday suggesting he would like more innings
02:37he's he's amazing um let's keep uh let's let's keep him on a plan where he can talk about health stay
02:44healthy throughout the whole year but he's just been he's been incredible and bringing the leadership
02:49and the performance and i know he said he doesn't feel like he's really found it yet but um
02:55great to be able to have him at the top of that rotation and and we need to win this series today so
03:01um let's let's get him out there doing what he does sam when you look at the your your team
03:08it's frustrating a little bit because i think a lot of fans had higher expectations for a faster start
03:14how do you not let and i i bet you guys probably believe the same thing how do you not let those
03:18frustrations bleed into the clubhouse and then it affects you on the field it's a it's a great question
03:26yeah it's it's um it's been a bit of an inconsistent start uh i would say and um you know we're we have
03:34to remember we're like 15 of the way through the schedule and i think in our last 10 games we're
03:41seven and three so that's that's a good sign and we've got to get certain guys going i mean it's been
03:47great to see tristan in the last two nights um feels like he's starting to find his swing um and
03:53we've had some guys out we talked about injuries it's part of it we've got guys coming back uh like
03:59connor wong and like lucas and baio getting back in is is great so hopefully things will start to
04:05pick up from here but um we uh we have been inconsistent and uh we've we hope to turn that
04:11around and it's all about winning series uh that's really what we have to focus on as we get into the
04:16get into the the later uh or the earlier part of may sam what's the process like in figuring out
04:23the future and the arrival date of a guy like roman anthony i mean best prospect in baseball
04:30is hitting like crazy in worcester obviously you know many factors go into that could you give us
04:34some some insight as to how you guys are preparing for his arrival this season well we just keep walking
04:42by brez's office saying come on man what are we what are we waiting for let's go he said the same
04:49he said the same thing to him when he was on last week yeah it it it's uh it's so exciting to have
04:56guys who are literally knocking on the door and and and trying to play their way into the big league
05:02lineup um i think the thing with with him or anybody else when you have someone who is in a sort of top of
05:09the minor league player development cycle you want to make sure that that they're fully ready and when
05:15they come up they're gonna come up to stay um so when guys are performing who you already have at
05:21the big league level um you know you do have a bit of a of a wait and see so there's really there's no
05:27magic to it there's the old baseball thing these things usually take care of themselves i i don't
05:33like saying that because that oftentimes results in an injury or someone underperforming um but it's been
05:41great to see and uh well i'm i'm sure he'll be up uh sooner rather than later uh but you never know
05:49and that'll be a decision that craig uh has to make and he's gotta he's gotta navigate this over
05:54over the weeks ahead in this day and age in baseball did do the economics play into it is there
06:01you know is it smart business to wait on him so you end up with a extra time on the end of the deal
06:07no look the best business is winning games at the big league level i can tell you that nothing else
06:15matters you can you can think about um you know roster construction as it relates to to anything
06:23you need related to player development but from a business perspective winning games at the big
06:28league level is what it's all about so to the extent anyone in our system that can help contribute to
06:34winning games at fenway park um that's that's what's best for business we have to balance that
06:40with with development making sure that that guys are completely ready and um and that there's room
06:46obviously on the roster so um it's a good problem to have if you have guys performing and guys performing
06:53throughout the organization but uh most important thing for business greg is is winning baseball games
06:58at fenway park sam you brought up tristan cassis how long do you give a guy who is struggling uh like
07:06alicia to go out there and continue to compete for his starting job when you maybe do have some other
07:13guys that are hitting the ball down at triple a you have to be patient as as hard as it is um you know and
07:22in case in point the last two nights at fenway but i'll tell you like he he has looked better i
07:29think he's finding his swing he's he's been hitting the ball the other way which is always a good sign
07:34for a left-handed hitter at fenway park um so you have to have to be patient um and you'll be rewarded for it
07:42we have really strong conviction and belief in tristan and his makeup and and what he's all about so um you
07:50do need to be patient if the belief and the conviction and the player is there and it certainly
07:54is with tristan cassis all right sam kennedy as always sam before you go i just wanted to congratulate
08:00you uh for once again being named one of boston's most influential um people wow okay yeah oh yeah
08:10they didn't pull uh my kids i can assure you i don't know what i can number 25 not bad wow out of
08:18out of 150 climbing up the ladder and sam greg was 147 last year not on it one 146 curtis oh sorry
08:27but i apparently i've lost some influence somehow i don't know i don't know what happened you need to
08:32investigate let's call for an investigation greg that's that's criminal it's a bit of a fraudulent
08:38list i hadn't noticed it until uh it was brought to my attention but apparently i have slipped off of
08:44the list of the most influential bostonians yeah ken laird 149 so congratulations you know it would be
08:51great just get more controversial i guess you know do tougher on the sports teams just say say
08:57controversial things it'll help you'll rock it you'll go right to the top no certainly congratulations
09:03and uh you know while the rest of you are are moving on up i'm apparently going in the wrong direction
09:09but you know we'll get back next sam i appreciate it all right we will talk to you again next week
09:14uh and certainly courtney thank you for for uh i'm all the attention of the world appreciate
09:19you gotta do something yeah you gotta do something what else could i do you wait how do you get how
09:24do you like how do you determine one's influence uh bigger tv
