00:00good morning good afternoon good evening wherever you are
00:29ito na naman po si Butch Bartolome ng business mentor talks over Manila Times
00:34alam nyo ba mahalaga talaga ang eyesight sinasabi natin to see is to believe
00:41and to see is to believe meron tayong isang kasama sa PCCI Quezon City
00:48na isang dalubhasa isang neuro-ophthalmologist
00:54naku mabigat yun ha neuro na opta pa
00:57so pakilala natin si Dr. Erwin Palisok
01:01good morning Dr. Erwin
01:03good morning good morning to everyone and happy new year
01:08I'm Dr. Erwin Palisok it's an honor to be here today in your show
01:13well I actually wear two hats in my professional journey
01:17one as a dedicated ophthalmologist and the other as a passionate interpreter
01:23so ophthalmologist I specialize in the care and treatment of eye conditions
01:29specifically those involving the the brain those or those diseases connected to the
01:37brain because I'm on your ophthalmologist helping my patients achieve and maintain
01:42their best possible vision so my clinical work is deeply rewarding because I get to make a tangible
01:50difference in people's lives ensuring that they can see and experience the world clearly on the other hand
01:58so business side the man I've been fortunate to combine my medical practice or expertise with uh
02:07entrepreneurial ventures no so particularly in the health and wellness industry so this allow me to
02:16to innovate build uh sustainable practices and create opportunities to serve even more beyond the cleaning
02:25okay so today I'm excited to share my journey of balancing these two roles you know the challenges I've overcome and how both fields fuel my passion for excellence and service so thank you for having me here
02:43thank you doc thank you dr erwin alam mo pag dr erwin eh masyadong mabigat no erwin talaga alam mo naman very similar like to another another celebrity so doc um ikaw ay graduate ng uh university of the philippines manila
03:00ah dun ko ako nag ano nag masters ng hospital administration had my masters in hospital administration and then you took up uh graduate study sa sa anong anong is this
03:12uh manila central university po i'm also teaching there uh i'm teaching both biochemistry and ophthalmology subject in the college of medicine of manila central university in caloocan si monomento
03:26caloocan caloocan and uh you are also uh practicing in de los santos uh uh hospital cls okay
03:33yes okay yes okay shout out mga taga de los santos dyan no si uh ating board member na si carmen soriano so doc
03:43i'm also uh affiliated din sa veterans memorial medical center and jose reyes jose reyes memorial medical center
03:53naku jose reyes alam mo alam mo maraming tayo nagsasabing iba eh you know work life balance work life family balance
04:07how do you manage that uh mukhang uh you're forever young you're always smiling happy you know cheerful
04:15walang wrinkles okay so so doc paano ano ba sikreto how do you balance your work life oh actually
04:23managing time effectively involves a combination of uh prioritizing planning and staying focused no so you have
04:33to set a clear goal no first no you have to send you have to begin with an end in mind no so you have to
04:41define short term and long term goals and uh break larger goals into manageable tasks and you have to
04:51prioritize your tasks no so focus on tasks that align with your goals and uh tackle high priority tasks
05:00during your peak productivity hours no and then you have to plan your day ahead of time no so you have to use a
05:08planner or digital calendar or time blocking techniques and then you have to allocate specific time
05:15slots for tasks and activities no so you okay have to leave buffer time for unforeseen circumstances or
05:25internet these are the unexpected no unexpected uh unexpected uh may mga tatawag or may mga ano but uh
05:31how what is now what is neuro-ophthalmology doc uh uh ano ba yung uh
05:37neuro-ophthalmology is actually uh subspecialty of ophthalmology no concerning the uh
05:46those diseases related to the brain that manifests in the eye like those with uh
05:52uh uh optic nerve problem no they are experiencing uh blurring of vision and those with uh uh limitation in
06:05eye movement due to stroke no or um due to vascular diseases like hypertension and diabetes that manifests as
06:18doubling of doubling of vision nagdodobly yung paningin so double vision siya no yung mga diseases
06:24na kinitreat namin as neuro-ophthalmology so um there are people who are confused uh between an
06:33optometrist and ophthalmologist i'm sure very common yan doc no uh
06:40uh actually young ophthalmologist uh we are a doctor of medicine no so before we became an
06:56ophthalmologist we actually uh finished four-year uh pre-med course and then after that uh we go into uh
07:08uh uh uh uh full uh four-year or five-year course no uh this is a doctor of medicine no so the
07:18that's the proper the proper medicine proper well and then after that we had our internship
07:27and then we go into residency training to specialize in our field of specialization specifically
07:35ophthalmology so you should three to four years and then another years of training for the
07:42subspecialty in my case neuro-ophthalmology i took it both here in the philippines and also abroad
07:51oh so two years so ophthalmology three so matagal-tagal talaga ang training pala no uh
07:59hindi biru-biru i mean so yun po yung ophthalmology we are dealing with all diseases related to the
08:07eye no all eye conditions no so we do uh both medical and surgical um uh we we treat no those patients
08:19with eye problems no okay so medical and surgeries and ophthalmology well they are those uh who are
08:31responsible in correcting the error of refraction specifically those who are prescribing uh eyeglasses
08:40so they are the ones expert in that field no so prescription of spectacles or eyeglasses so which
08:51comes first uh depending po sa ano kung every refraction initially po sa optometries and then
08:59kung meron pa pong uh other eye conditions na hindi ma-address ng salamin then you go to an
09:09ophthalmologist ah okay so uh with eye problem na kailangang operahan like katarata no
09:19o yung mga ganun po so dapat po sa ophthalmologist po kayo po so dapat po na yun yun importante but
09:27uh look erwin eh yung ating mga tao ngayon ay parati nagsasabi na ah ganito talaga tumatanda na okay
09:36lang kung may katarata you know yung mga ganun pa ah yun ba ay isa sa mga dapat you know to accept it or
09:45it can be remedied you know yung mga katarata yung mga ano actually ang katarak po that's inevitable no
09:52once we uh turn the age of 60 or above it's very common in elderly individuals no so uh it happens
10:01po talaga it's a degenerative condition na dapat po natin ah ah hindi ah baliwalain kasi it can cause
10:12blurring of vision no so it may manifest with uh decreased vision so common po siya talaga sa elderly
10:20individuals and ah na address naman po siya kasi it's a reversible blindness na pag inoperahan it can be
10:29treated po kung wala naman po ibang problema sa ibang party naman then ah ah mag improve naman yung vision
10:37afterwards so there's still a chance pala to improve so before we go to becoming an entrepreneur
10:43there are a lot of young ah the the generation nowadays you know ah wherein they're concentrated with their
10:50cell phones ah nakababad sa sa computer mga entrepreneurs parating nakayuko you know
10:58ah ato mapapayo mo dito because a lot of people would say you have to stay away you have to
11:04take a rest but again nowadays because of our technology we are always concentrated on that small
11:12black box ah how can we prevent that ah yun niya no ah there's this uh 2020 rule no so we have to follow
11:21the 2020 rule after after 20 minutes of of screen time you have to look at the distance of 20 feet
11:29for at least 20 seconds no so you have to limit the screen time and follow the 2020 rule no so
11:3620 20 and then 20 minutes is screen time yeah 20 seconds look look at the distance of 20 feet
11:44ah okay 20 feet a week we're 20 feet bakit bakit bakit po ganun ah para po ma-prevent
11:51yung digital eye strain or dry eye syndrome para ma-relax yung mata kasi dapat nagbiblink
11:58po yung mata natin ah dapat nagbiblink ah lubricate ma-moisten yung all right
12:03right or niya yung anterior part of the eye there are people also like you know bagong matulog nagsi
12:10cell phone yeah ah may mga blue screen ano ba yung mga tinatawag na blue screen filter that's right
12:17yeah yeah that's true ah so you we have to protect against digital eye strain no so we have to use
12:25blue light blocking glasses no for prolonged device use and we have to enable the night mode or
12:33dark mode on our devices to reduce eye strain so interesting talaga pala itong uh yung work no
12:42and it's what especially nowadays no these are very uh a lot of people are now having the eye strain
12:48the dry eyes the migraine and everything but as an entrepreneur naman doc um how you know you have
12:57your business ano po business nila uh your your business in wellness what is the name of the
13:03business though actually i have a new business it's named selene aesthetics and spa it's located in
13:11uh scout gandiya corner thomas morato sa amara and iomi residences building so located
13:20so tell us about the business how how did you start the business from being a medical
13:30practitioner a professor and going to the bridge of entrepreneurship you know a lot of people are
13:38saying wow ah si doc ah naging entrepreneur pa okay yeah it was born out of a deep passion for
13:46for wellness and beauty combined with the desire to create a sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation
13:55so the the name selene the selene name draws inspiration from the greek goddess of the moon
14:04symbolizing serenity beauty and renewal no it's so these are the qualities we aim to bring
14:12to every client's experience no so what makes the aesthetics and spa unique is our holistic approach
14:22to aesthetics and wellness no so embed modern science-backed skin care techniques with each old spa
14:32traditions no so our treatments are actually tailored to individual needs no ensuring every client feels valued
14:42cared for cared for and rejuvenated no so we also pride ourselves on using eco-friendly
14:51high quality products and prioritizing sustainability in our operations
14:58wow so how long ago did you establish this though actually last year
15:04last year so how's the business now i mean uh your clientele uh you know because nowadays getting into
15:14business is very competitive you know you have so many competitors but uh i think the unique selling
15:19proposition is where you get an edge no yeah no so we are listening to our clients feedback and we are
15:28innovating our innovating our services so we build a loyal community who trust us for their beauty and
15:35wellness needs oh so yun yung importante dapat makinig tayo sa ating mga clients so we should have
15:42uh feedback no from our clients so we are very committed to excellence continue stop training and staying
15:51ahead of the industry trends no so so there are questions like why would they go to uh to your
16:01wellness uh there are people who say oh i can take care of myself diy you know but uh why should
16:07there be a need for example uh one of the people that one of the you know one of the things i notice in
16:14people is that they are so uh stress they need space they need space they need space is this what
16:22your your um celine is offering right that's true because here in celine we really need all the things that
16:32you need for uh your health especially when it comes to relaxation so wellness so all in one
16:40that's why we have aesthetics and spa so yun yung unique ano namin na mao-offer kasi ano
16:48siya eh one-stop shop na ba siya nandyan dyan so how long is the average time doc for for somebody to go
16:56in and be pampered and recharge rejuvenate usually one hour one to two hours one to two hours
17:05but the spa itself yung massage usually one hour one hour to 30 minutes one hour to 30 minutes
17:15and then uh if they want to have the procedure especially facial or laser treatments then it will
17:23take at least 30 minutes to one another 30 minutes to wow so uh doc i will not take much of your time i
17:31know you are in a you know you are in a balance mood but tell us where can they get in touch with you
17:40for example they need somebody like an ophthalmologist they have needed in their you know they have
17:46questions about neuro ophthalmology or the spa the celine how can they get in touch with you doc yes uh my
17:55clinic uh is located at the los santos medical center room 715 medical arts building i hold clinic there

18:15central university once a week ago done thursdays 3 to 5 pm also and then
18:23on celine naman we are open from 12 noon to 12 am wow every day every day wow every day so seven days
18:34a week you cannot touch hindi nyo mahuli si doc erwin pumunta kayo sa celine dyan sa scout
18:41gandia corner tomas marato what what uh what floor is this uh doc ground floor
18:48ground floor okay so wala tayong wala kang lusot you know yung mga nanonood sa atin there's no
18:54excuse not to see doc erwin okay so yan doc i will not take much of your time thank you very much for
19:02this uh brief and yet you know very important uh tips no lalong lalo na about celine ayan ang
19:11importante dyan everybody wants to have that space sabi nga natin so doc final words ano
19:17po ang final words natin sa mga nanonood sa atin sa business mentor uh yeah so yung ano
19:25namin sa celine we are actually uh uh we have a goal no uh for expansion no so we have future plans and
19:35ongoing efforts to further reduce our environmental footprint and partner with eco-conscious brands
19:43no and then as we prepare for the next phase we are investing in team development enhancing client
19:50experiences and fostering collaborations with industry leaders so our ultimate goal is to ensure
19:58that celine aesthetics and spa continues to be a trusted sanctuary where beauty wellness and serenity
20:07come together harmoniously
20:12trusted sanctuary i love that i love that those two words powerful trusted na sanctuary pa
20:19all right so again thank you very much dory guys client well-being and innovation
20:24correct correct so uh yeah thank you very much doc for this opportunity
