00:00Here we are backstage hanging out with Hardee's, about to come out there and rock us all tonight.
00:04What's going on, my man?
00:05Man, chilling.
00:06Thanks for being here.
00:07Yeah, thanks for having me.
00:08It's going to be fun.
00:09Yeah.
00:10It's funny, when the song comes out, and I think a lot of people had this, like, rednecker,
00:15and then the guy's singing it, like, is that 100% you?
00:18Is that what you're about?
00:19Yeah.
00:20Really?
00:20That's awesome.
00:20Yeah, man.
00:21I mean, uh.
00:22The hair doesn't give it away a little bit.
00:24Well, you know, you can't just, I mean, the song was deep.
00:28I mean, it's about, I was like, man, if that's really you, then I've got to meet this guy.
00:33I mean, it is.
00:33It definitely is.
00:35That's how I grew up, you know, and I think more than anything, first of all, the song works,
00:40I guess, on a lot of different levels, and I learned that after it actually came out,
00:43you know?
00:44A lot of people just think it's funny, and a lot of people think it's, like, satire to,
00:47like, country music, and a lot of people think it's true to myself, and it is.
00:52You know, I grew up that way, and I'm proud of it, and I think, you know, I think it just
00:58kind of, for me, it stands for the guy that's proud of a certain type of person that's not
01:03necessarily, or that's kind of more frowned upon than praised, and I'm just saying it's
01:10I think we've got some of those people out there tonight that are watching this.
01:13I think they are.
01:13I hope so.
01:13I can't wait.
01:14People who can relate.
01:15Yeah.
01:15Yeah.
01:15Cool.
01:16So we do something like this, a guitar pool.
01:18It's really cool and unique because, you know, it's kind of unscripted, right?
01:21Everyone's out there just kind of doing everything.
01:22Is there a certain song, because I know writing is a big part of how you got into this business,
01:28very successful as a writer, but is there a certain song that sometimes you come with
01:32and people are like, wow, you're actually going to sing this song, or do you keep it
01:35pretty consistent?
01:37What do you mean?
01:38Well, I mean, is there a song that you might sing where someone might go, wow, he's actually
01:41going to cover that song, and it's just something that you just go, yeah, wow, I dig this.
01:45That's why I sing it.
01:45Um, no, I mean, I'll probably break out, uh, like, one of the bigger hits that I've
01:54written.
01:54You don't have to give it away.
01:56You can keep it a surprise for everybody.
01:57I'll let it be a surprise.
01:58Or give it away.
01:58I mean, yeah, it's whatever you want to do.
01:59I do God's Country, and I kind of put my own spin on it.
02:03But I don't know.
02:04I don't know if people are expecting it.
02:05I don't know how many people know that I wrote that song, but it's always a nice surprise,
02:09and I like the theater of not, like, saying the title before I sing it, and I just
02:14start singing it, and then people kind of are like, oh, this is, I know this song.
02:17You feel like it's because you, because you wrote it, you're like, damn right, I'm going
02:20to sing this song.
02:21I wrote this song.
02:22Absolutely.
02:22Yeah, I mean, we do it in our, our full band set.
02:24It's, like, one of my favorite songs to do live, and it goes over so well, and, you
02:28know, before I play it, I talk about how I've been a songwriter for such a long time,
02:31and, um, yeah, it's, I mean, it's, it's, it's, it's very much a part of, of, uh, my sound
02:38as well as, as Blake's, and it's, it rocks, and, and, um, so I feel like it's just as
02:43much my song as it is Blake's in a lot of ways.
02:45Hell yeah, it is, yeah.
02:46So, how is the celebration different when it's you personally singing the song, even
02:51though you wrote it, and it going number one, versus Blake Shelton singing it, and it going
02:55number one?
02:56Is it the same celebration?
02:58No, definitely not.
02:59Really?
03:00No way, because, I mean, uh, I haven't.
03:03Is one a felony and one a misdemeanor, like, one gets, one gets next level?
03:08Yeah, I think, you know, I haven't had a number one yet as an artist, but, but, this, I will
03:13celebrate, I think, way more, um, as an artist, because there's a lot more hard work put into
03:19having your own number one.
03:21When you write a song, I mean, I wrote, with Devin Dawson and Jordan Schmidt, we wrote God's
03:27Country in, like, two hours, and that's all the work that we put into that.
03:30Then it's into the universe, and, and it's up to everyone else for that song to go.
03:33Hours?
03:34Yeah.
03:34Oh my gosh, that seems like nothing in the scheme of things.
03:36No, exactly, but, but, the work that I would put in as an artist for a song to go number
03:42one is a lot more than that, so I think it should be celebrated a little more.
03:45Awesome.
03:46Backstage with Hardy, about to come out, along with the rest of the crew, and, uh, gonna
03:49tear it up tonight for Guitar Pool.
03:51Thanks for being here, we really appreciate it.
03:52Thanks for having me, y'all.
03:53Yeah, thanks.
