Transcript
00:00Newcastle United 5, Crystal Palace 0 here at St James' Park tonight.
00:05Five goals, a five-star display from Newcastle United,
00:09which moves them up to third in the Premier League table
00:11and most importantly, gives them a five-point advantage
00:14over the teams chasing the Champions League qualification places.
00:18Expect to be a tight game tonight at Crystal Palace.
00:21They've only lost two of the last 15 away from home prior to tonight,
00:24but Newcastle put them to the sword for first-half goals.
00:28It was a bit of an event for one, a real entertaining one, actually.
00:31Newcastle took the lead.
00:33Jacob Murphy handed Newcastle the lead with an unbelievable strike,
00:38similar to Sandro Tenarles here against Brentford a few weeks back.
00:42Now, when he caught the goalkeeper out at his near post,
00:45unstoppable from Jacob Murphy, he is in fine form.
00:49Crystal Palace then got a penalty, I thought it was soft,
00:51but Nick Pope came charging off his line to try and claim a free kick delivery into the box,
00:56but cleared out Chris Richards in the process.
01:01And yeah, following a lengthy VR, Trek VR looked at it,
01:04sent the referee Darren England to the monitor and Darren England pointed to the spot.
01:09But Richie Ezier stepped up and Nick Pope saved an awful penalty by the England international
01:15and an easy save for Nick Pope.
01:18Straight at the other end, Newcastle made it 2-0.
01:21Harvey Barnes' cross put into his own net by none of that than Mark Gee.
01:25Of course, Newcastle tried to sign Mark Gee last summer,
01:28and that's now his second own goal against Newcastle this season.
01:32Got one at Selhurst Park.
01:34I think it was Anthony Gordon's cross that day, but it was Harvey Barnes' cross tonight,
01:38and Newcastle made it 2-0.
01:40And then seven minutes of stoppage time added on at the end of the first half,
01:44and Newcastle found time to get another two goal.
01:46This time, Harvey Barnes did get himself on the score sheet,
01:50released by Sandro Tonali down the left-hand side,
01:53and produced a lovely left-footed finish into the bottom corner.
01:56You usually expect Barnes to cut inside, but he took the defender on the outside,
02:00and that was to say it was a fantastic finish.
02:03And Fabian Scher made it 4-0, last kick of the first half,
02:07when Jacob Murphy, again, another unbelievable assist by him,
02:12a lovely free-kick delivery, 21 goal contributions for Jacob Murphy this season,
02:17put it on a plate for Fabian Scher, which is a glance ahead of from Fabian Scher
02:20to make it 4-0.
02:22And then in the second half, Alexander Izak, who'd missed the first,
02:26who'd missed the hat-rick of chances inside the opening 10 minutes
02:28and missed a few others as well, finally got himself on the score sheet,
02:32Joe Linton won the ball high,
02:34and Alexander Izak with a right-footed finish into the bottom corner,
02:38a really good finish.
02:38And then from then on, Jason Tindall rang the changes with Saturday's trip to Aston Villa in mind,
02:45so a comfortable evening for Newcastle United, a big result.
02:50And yeah, a lot of momentum with them now heading into the final six games.
02:52Aston Villa will be a very, very tough game at the weekend,
02:56but having that five-point advantage inside the Champions League places
03:00actually gives them a little bit, well, it takes the pressure off a little bit,
03:03shall we say, because it's going to be a tough ask going to Aston Villa,
03:05especially after they exited, they valiantly exited the Champions League last night.
03:11So I imagine Villa Porte will be rocking,
03:13and they'll want to be batting the Champions League to do that.
03:14They'll have to get a result against Newcastle,
03:16so it takes the pressure off, but Newcastle are flying six wins in a row now.
03:19Okay.
03:20Let's go.
03:25Okay.
