00:00Newcastle United 0, West Ham United 2 here at St James' Park this evening after three
00:07straight wins before the national break against Goodsides in Arsenal, Chelsea and Nottingham
00:13Forest. It feels like Newcastle United have taken a step back here after losing to West
00:19Ham. Now the game itself, yeah you can probably argue Newcastle shaded the first half, found
00:25themselves maybe undeservedly behind through Thomas Sutrec's 10th minute header. Five minutes
00:32before that, Alex Anisak had a opener ruled out for offside. There was chances in the
00:37first half but Newcastle, as we've found in games this season, particularly against the
00:42teams down the bottom end of the table if you like, I was thinking about Everton, Brighton
00:49on at the bottom of the table but it was probably Corbyn's copy of that really. I thought that
00:53in the first half when they had chances but just lacked that cutting edge. Then in the
00:58second half, realistically, West Ham seen that game out very, very easily. Got the second
01:04in the 53rd minute through Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Newcastle had zero response. Changes were
01:11made, Harvey Barnes came on at half-time, like Sassandro Tonali, Callum Wilson came
01:15on, Jacob Murphy too but Newcastle never looked like scoring in that second half and West
01:22Ham comfortably seen out a win. That's a big frustration because Newcastle had a real
01:27big opportunity to move into the top six. I think they would have been a point behind
01:31the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea really put themselves in that European mix. Everything
01:37pretty much pointing in Newcastle win. West Ham, you and Lopetegui under pressure at West
01:41Ham, under the light of St James' Park where there was a start in the round before a game
01:45that Newcastle hadn't actually lost on a Monday night since 2008. I don't know how true that
01:50is but it was in the start pack so it's a fact. Everything pointing towards a Newcastle
01:57win and they put in a performance that was really, really disappointing. As I say, it's
02:01a real opportunity missed here tonight so it's back to the drawing board for Eddie Howe.
02:05I thought he found a formula in recent weeks with Anthony Gordon and Joe Linton on the
02:10wings in the midfield three of Bruno, Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff but that didn't
02:15work tonight so yeah, plenty of food for thought ahead of Crystal Palace on Saturday.
