Transcript
00:00Newcastle United 3, Grenfell 1 here at St James' Park and with that, that seals Newcastle United's passage into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup for a second time in three years.
00:12Now, that Leicester game here that got Newcastle in the semi-finals, last time out, big difference our fourth. There was a lot of motion that night against Leicester, Dan Burns scoring the Gallagher end.
00:23Tonight was a lot more uneventful and it felt like Newcastle had a job to do today and with professionalism they did it comfortably.
00:33As I say, I thought that was a very comfortable evening for Newcastle United who I don't think were actually at their very best but really didn't have to be.
00:42Of course, the star of the show, Sandro Tonali, what a night for him. His best night in a black and white shirt since returning from that bar and I'll be his best since that opening day last season when he scored against Aston Bernal.
00:56Those two goals were his first for Newcastle since then so he's came back on the team in recent weeks to play that number six role that looks like a midfielder.
01:06He's been a big part of that and it was nice to see him get rewarded with his two goals today so that will give him a big lift and I suppose now the challenge is for Sandro Tonali to get more goals in a black and white shirt.
01:19As we've seen today, he's capable of two excellent finishes. The first one when he's cornered sweetly, a powerful finish past Mark Flicken and then the corner kick as well.
01:32A lovely flying volley so a big night for him and from then on I thought Newcastle were really comfortable. Fabian Scheer made it 3-0.
01:43Brentford got a goal back at the very end but I don't think that should take anything away from Newcastle's performance. This was a deserved route into the semi-final where they will face a big team in that semi-final.
01:57Liverpool and Arsenal both won tonight. It's Manchester United or Tottenham in the draw on Thursday so whoever it is, it's going to be a tough game but Newcastle have played well against the big teams this season so who knows, they might cause an upset if you want to call that.
02:11Thomas Frank hopes he can win the Caraway Cup but before that they've got some big Premier League games starting with Ipswich Town on Saturday.
