00:00Ryan Meltzer there. Tan Enfeng is the Secretary General of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce.
00:06We welcome the visit of Presidency. It is very significant because in view of the American reciprocal tariff imposed on China,
00:19and China Presidency has shown his confidence and woke up and come to Malaysia.
00:25And we expect him to do some, maybe some checking on the businesses' environment in Malaysia.
00:34And we believe he will help us to boost our economy and at the same time boost the economy of China.
00:42Very significant to us.
00:44So a significant boost in confidence, a show of confidence.
00:47How is the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce preparing your member businesses to align better with priority sectors like artificial intelligence and green technologies?
00:58In fact, you see, we businessmen in Malaysia, especially my members from the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce,
01:07we are waiting for the green light from the China President for us to do big investment in China
01:15and for us to welcome investment from China.
01:19In fact, Presidency visit this time is a strong boost to us.
01:26Because for the last few days, since April 2nd, after the President Donald Trump announced about the reciprocal tariff imposed on Malaysia,
01:36Southeast Asia and Asian countries and China, we are a bit worried because of all these uncertainties.
01:45So unpredictable tax policy.
01:47Now, with Presidency coming in Malaysia, we are assured China and ASEAN will work together.
01:56So we are very confident of this time.
01:58In terms of Chinese investment into Malaysia, you talked about Chinese businesses investing there in that country.
02:05Why should Chinese companies invest more in Malaysia?
02:08What more could the government be doing there to make the country attractive for investment from Chinese businesses?
02:14The first thing, I think, because of the Malaysian government, we are very friendly to the China investment and we welcome China investment.
02:25And we believe by doing investment in Malaysia, China businesses, they have good advantage.
02:34Especially in Malaysia, we have a lot of Chinese and we speak Mandarin and we speak English.
02:41And we can help them to penetrate the market in Southeast Asia, in ASEAN countries, as well as to countries in Europe, countries in America.
02:51So China companies, they come to Malaysia, they have a lot of opportunities to look for better skilled people, Malaysians, and better prepared for them to go investment in other ASEAN countries.
03:07Because I think we have met many, in fact, today I also met a lot of Chinese investors in my office.
03:14They are worried about the unpredictable policies, tax policies, business policies in America, in Europe country.
03:23So they would like to explore, expand their business opportunities, the market in ASEAN countries.
03:31So they come to Malaysia, we are basically, we welcome them and they can depend on us and they can trust us.
