00:00The KL High Court has allowed former Kedah Mentor Besar Datuk Siri Mukriz Mahathir's application
00:07to stay an additional assessment notice issued by the Inland Revenue Board LHDN,
00:13pending the decision of his judicial review application to quash the notice.
00:18Mukriz had applied to quash the action of the LHDN,
00:21which issued the notice for him to pay more than RM5 million for the assessment years 2017-2019.
00:29During proceedings, Senior Federal Counsel Mohamed Haris-Hanapi,
00:34representing the LHDN Director-General, submitted that the LHDN objected to the stay application.
00:41He said, if the application is granted, it would give the impression that taxpayers
00:46would not have to pay tax under Section 103 of the Income Tax Act 1967.
00:52However, Mukriz's lawyer, Nizamuddin Abdulhamid,
00:57argued that there was no provision in the Income Tax Act
01:01that prevented the court from granting a stay.
01:04Mukriz filed the judicial review application on December 20 last year.
