00:00Following the concern over Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe, who was admitted to hospital because of an illness on Friday evening, Newcastle responded in the best way possible by putting Manchester United to the sword by four goals to one. Let's first take a look at the goals that saw the Magpies win the match.
00:18Sandro Tonali opened the scoring in the 24th minute, latching on to a loop ball from Alexander Izak before dispatching at the Leeds' end in front of the adoring crowd.
00:31And although Manchester United equalised before half-time through Alejandro Garnaccio, Harvey Barnes was quickly on the score sheet in the second half to restore Newcastle's lead.
00:40He tapped home Jacob Murphy's pullback to make the score 2-1 and just 15 minutes later, Barnes had his second and Newcastle United's third as he capitalised on a defensive mistake and broke through the middle of the pitch to score.
00:54That goal was Barnes' eighth of the Premier League season so far.
00:57And then Bruno Guimaraes rounded off the performance by getting Newcastle's fourth of the day, slotting past Manchester United's debut goalkeeper to round off what had been a superb afternoon at St James' Park for the Magpies.
01:12It was assistant head coach Jason Tindall on media duties after the game in Howe's absence, with Tindall making very clear how proud he was of Newcastle's players on the day.
01:23Yeah, it certainly was. I said to the players before the game to go and deliver a performance that the manager would be proud of and they certainly went out and delivered that.
01:32Yeah, I had a message from him just before I come to do the press, congratulating the team and the performance and the work from everybody.
01:41He was able to watch the game and I'm sure that performance would have put a smile in the space.
01:45No updates since I've seen not really had the opportunity to speak to him properly, just received a text message before I come to do the media.
01:56So I'm sure as soon as there's any update then you guys will probably be the first to know.
02:01Super proud of the players.
02:05Not surprised because we've got a fantastic group of players, got some great leaders within that.
02:13And there's times like this when the manager is not there, when he's not there to lead the team, that you have to step up individually and collectively.
02:20And everybody certainly did that today.
02:22So, you know, really, really proud of the players to go out and deliver the performance that they did today against a good Manchester United team.
02:29I'm sure I'd want to be proud of them.
02:31Yeah, obviously it's different when you're obviously stepping in to lead the team in the absence of the manager.
02:36It's always going to be slightly different.
02:38And this week was slightly different having to, you know, sort of prepare the team.
02:45So, you know, but we've worked together for so long now.
02:48We've been together for 17 years.
02:50We know the expectations and the demands set upon ourselves individually and what we set upon the rest of the group.
02:56And it's then down to the players to take that information on board and go out and deliver a performance.
03:02And, you know, they certainly went out and did that to me.
03:04And finally, we can pass to Joe Buck from the Shields Gazette who gave his post-match thoughts after what was a game that saw Newcastle United move up to fourth place in the Premier League and ahead of Manchester City and Chelsea.
03:20Newcastle go into a really important week.
03:23You know, they've got Crystal Palace and Aston Villa to come on the back of a really good win against Manchester United.
03:27Wins against Manchester United don't come often.
03:29They do now.
03:30They know that's five in the last six against them, home and away in all competitions.
03:33But, yeah, it's good to get this really important week off to a strong win.
03:38They've got another three goals on the goal difference.
03:40They'll have six in total.
03:41And, of course, they started the game with Chelsea drawing against Ipswich.
03:45So that was a big, you know, a big boost for them.
03:48And they managed to capitalise on that mistake by Chelsea.
03:51And, yeah, they're now going to go into potentially that game against, or they are going to go into that game on Wednesday, knowing if they win, they're going to go third, which is absolutely, you know, a brilliant return for them.
04:00But, yeah, it's just such a crucial week.
04:02We got to, let me guess, and I deserve everything they've got to do.
04:04They're absolutely brilliant.
04:05Manchester United are not very good.
04:07And, yeah, five wins in the Royal for Eddie Howe's side.
04:10Of course, we have an Eddie Howe, whether he'll be available, you know, if he'll be on the touchline.
04:15You know, on Wednesday or not, but if Newcastle can do what they did today, even in the absence of Eddie Howe, you know, Jason Tindall, Green Jones on the touchline, it was, yeah, it was an Eddie Howe performance without Eddie Howe on the touchline.
04:26So, yeah, it was a brilliant win for Newcastle.
04:28It's always good for them to get a winner on Manchester United.
04:30It always lifts the city.
04:32They can beat Manchester United, and they've done that today.
04:34Yeah, it deserves the first Premier League double ever over the Red Devils World Games.
04:37It was a fantastic day for Newcastle.
04:38Newcastle full Manchester United won, and they deserved every single one of three wins in the game.
