00:00You've got to say I could return to winning ways in the Premier League after two and a half weeks off from action in all competitions. Of course, the last game in Premier League was against West Ham. That was a win as well, but they came back to the league with a win, this time against Brentford. 2-1 victory, Joe.
00:17Certainly an evening where Brentford are a good side. They've won five on the bounce away from home before this game. It was the case of Newcastle, who, yes, were always going to be a little bit rusty given the fact that they haven't really trained together.
00:30They've been on this sort of emotional high for the last two and a half weeks since the cup final. Regardless of the performance, just getting through it with a win, and that's exactly what they did.
00:39It was a tricky-looking fixture on paper, wasn't it? It was one you probably didn't want after that break. They've had games against Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham, similar level teams to Brentford, where they've got beat at home.
00:53They've really struggled, but they did what they needed to do yesterday. A bit of luck about the winning goal, of course, and maybe a bit of luck before that with Brentford hitting the post.
01:04They did exactly what they needed to do, and it was important that they got that win, that they could continue the momentum from the Carabao Cup final.
01:11With now nine games after the season, they can't afford too many slip-ups, especially against teams around them. Brentford would have gone within three points of them had they won last night.
01:22It was a really important win for Champions League qualification. Will Eddie Howe look back on that whole performance with fondness? Probably not, but if you look back, they've got three points. That's all that matters.
01:34With a couple of, you'd like to say, favourable fixtures coming up, it could be a massive three points when we look back in May and whatever European competition they end up in next year.
01:45Indeed, yes. I think it was just a case of, as I mentioned before, getting through it. Yes, they had some good fortune, as you rightly mentioned as well.
01:53To be honest, I don't think they were terrible. Certainly, they started the game quite well. I think they ended the first half quite well as well.
02:00The second half, there was still that bit of chaos that we've become a bit accustomed to in periods against teams like that. They rode a bit of a storm, of course.
02:08They conceded the penalty and then Brentford, as you say there, hit the post. It could have gone two on a head, but they kept plugging away.
02:15Of course, it's a goal that they scored to win that we've had a chat about off-air in trying to work out, did San Antonio mean it or not?
02:24Now, from my point of view, from where I was sat, he doesn't really look towards the goal as he hits it. So, to me, he's not meant to do it.
02:33Yes, for me, if he's going to cross it, I don't know what he's going to do unless he's trying to flash it with power across the box, but there wasn't really anyone there.
02:41I would like to think he meant it. Anyhow, after I said that, you know, Tenali, he sees him do them in training.
02:51I don't believe he necessarily does that too often in training, but I can see his point that he's got the technique and the power to do some of that.
02:58I think that out of anyone in the squad, Tenali's the one you would say would be able to do something like that.
03:04To be fair to Tenali, he was Newcastle's best player. I thought he was Newcastle's best player, even before that goal. He was brilliant.
03:11Just another moment for him, what a renaissance he's had over the last few months.
03:15It's great to see, after such a difficult start at St James' Park, with his long band, that he's able to come in and provide moments like what he did last night as a recordier.
03:25It was just brilliant. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. I know you're a bit on the other way, but I'll say he meant it.
03:32It's hard when he comes out and says he didn't mean it, but I will say he meant it.
03:36It was just a fantastic strike and one that I'm sure will be on highlight reels for weeks and months to come.
03:42I'm not doubting the merit of the strike, because when you watch it back, regardless of whether he meant it or not, it's a fantastic strike to catch that so well and true.
03:51Catch the keeper off guard, because the keeper's looking towards the cross coming in and it goes straight into the roof of the net.
03:58It's a fantastic strike from an improbable angle, but as I say, I'm not entirely sure.
04:05Fair enough, it got Newcastle the three points. That was the main thing.
04:09Another night where, obviously, War Flags have put that fantastic display out pre-match as well.
04:16The atmosphere in parts was pretty good.
04:18Obviously, the only downside, I think, was probably a couple of little knocks to the likes of Alexander Isak here in Trippier.
04:25Joe Linton, I thought, as well, when he obviously went off for a bit of treatment, but then came back on, so seemingly was okay.
04:30Anyhow, afterwards, saying that both of them were groin issues, actually, both Trippier and Isak, but doesn't sound too concerned about them.
04:39The fact that maybe just a day or so of rest might see them okay.
