Jordan Cronin, Phil Smith, James Copley and Daniel Wales review the latest results of Newcastle United, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
Transcript
00:00Newcastle United emerged 4-3 victors against Nottingham Forest.
00:05A bit of a strange game, that one. A game of two halves, shall we say.
00:09An entertaining first half from Newcastle United's perspective,
00:12but a very nervy second half, and it didn't need to be that way.
00:15Newcastle, in total control from that first half,
00:18okay, they fell behind in the game through Callum Hudson to Doddie's strike,
00:21but fought back emphatically, scoring four second-half,
00:25four first-half goals in 11 minutes.
00:28Jacob Murphy on the score sheet, it was Lewis Miley who equalised
00:31before Jacob Murphy scored, and then Alex Adezat gets a brace.
00:34First goal from the penalty spot, and then a second goal
00:36after being played in by Joel Willock.
00:38At half-time, you think, in this game, it can be anything it wants to be,
00:41in terms of scoring. Newcastle can win this by any margin they want,
00:44they were that dominant, but for some reason in the second half,
00:47they just sat back, invaded lots of pressure from Nottingham Forest,
00:50and, yeah, Nottingham Forest made a 4-2 on the hour mark
00:53through Milinkovic, and they fully deserved that.
00:57Newcastle, you'd think, would have woken up a little bit,
01:00but they didn't, and Nottingham Forest's pressure continued
01:02to the point where they end up scoring and making a 4-3
01:05with three minutes left.
01:07A goalkeeping error from Anthony Patterson saw Sunderland
01:10lose 1-0 at home to Hull City.
01:13I mean, let's not beat around the bush, extremely poor performance,
01:16I thought. Yeah, I thought Sunderland were really, really poor.
01:19I think, you know, they missed big chances in the second half,
01:21so they should have got something out of the game,
01:23but at the end of the day, they made a big error early on,
01:25Anthony Patterson pushing a corner into his own net,
01:27should have been dealt with, and I think after that,
01:29Sunderland really struggled to build up any head of steam.
01:31I think what's concerning is very, very few players
01:33are at their best at the moment.
01:34I think there seems to be a lot of tired legs out there
01:37struggling to create chances, and I think at this time in the season,
01:40what tends to happen is we've seen in recent weeks
01:42that teams who at the start of the season are really aggressive,
01:44like Hull City were under their previous manager.
01:46They completely change their style, don't they,
01:48because they're in trouble, they need to grind results out,
01:50and it's another team who's come here, who's defended quite well,
01:53but has taken time out of the game,
01:54defended in a low block a lot of the time,
01:56and at the moment, Sunderland just can't find the answers,
01:58and that's one win in four at home,
02:00it's not automatic promotion for them simply as that.
02:03An absolutely fair play to Hull for coming in first straight,
02:05and I thought they were decent,
02:06there didn't have to be anything more than that really,
02:08but it felt like a bit of a League One game in a sense,
02:10the way they sucked the life out of that,
02:12and Sunderland didn't really deal with that.
02:15And Middlesbrough are condemned to yet another defeat
02:17in the Championship, as they lost 2-1 away at Bristol City,
02:22despite taking the lead.
02:24It was another defeat for Michael Carrick's Middlesbrough side,
02:27this time away to Bristol City in the Championship,
02:30that's their fifth league loss in a row.
02:33They had actually gone ahead in the game in the first half,
02:35just before half-time, thanks to a former Robins player,
02:38Tommy Conway, his celebration was muted,
02:41out of respect for his former club,
02:43but it wasn't to be enough for the Borough,
02:45who let in two late goals from George Earthy of the Robins,
02:4872 minutes and then 82 minutes on the clock for Bristol City,
02:52who go ever closer to the playoffs,
02:54just two points away from them now,
02:56whilst Middlesbrough have dropped to 13th in the Championship.
