00:00So, let me give you a rundown over what happened here.
00:06On Tuesday, this is of course The Strand, a major free fare here in central London.
00:12We understand a van came off the road on Tuesday morning, a bit after 11.30.
00:18I should clarify that, it actually came out of these gates and crashed into a group of
00:22pedestrians.
00:23This left three injured, one seriously, and a fourth pedestrian, a woman in her twenties
00:29dead.
00:31The driver of the van, a 26-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of
00:37causing death by careless driving and drug driving.
00:42There is now next to zero emergency services present here, however, floral tributes have
00:48been laid around the area and as you can see, there remains quite significant damage to
00:55the road.
00:56We've heard from a number of witnesses since the incident who have described hearing screams.
01:09A witness who gave his name as Josh says he heard a quote-unquote bang and screaming at
01:14the time of the accident.
01:17He says the van involved had driven out of a nearby service yard and through a gate,
01:23which is of course this one here, and hit a group of people.
01:28Ali, a PhD student at the nearby King's College, who did not wish to share his surname, explains
01:36how he was leaving class when he saw emergency services gathered near the scene.
