00:00Newcastle up to fifth.
00:03A 3-0 win at Leicester City on Monday night.
00:05A brace from Jacob Murphy and then a third from Fulham Nesta player Harvey Barnes.
00:10Capped off what was, let's be honest, an unbelievably easy night for Newcastle in the end.
00:15I actually think Newcastle weren't overall that great in the game, to be honest.
00:20I thought second half their attacking prowess sort of died away a little bit.
00:23They didn't really do an awful lot and yet they still came away relatively untroubled throughout.
00:30The game.
00:31Yeah, as you say, easy was the right word to use on Monday night.
00:34It was just from the minute, you know, from the minute sort of Jacob Murphy put that ball in.
00:40What was it, the second minute I think it was, they never looked back.
00:42They never looked like losing.
00:44You're right, they weren't great.
00:45I think defensively they let them in a couple of times.
00:47Obviously Jamie Vardy had a really early shot, which Pope saved.
00:51Pope made another good save and obviously they hit the post twice.
00:54Leicester obviously hadn't scored in the eighth consecutive home games now.
00:57It just felt like it was never going to go in for them.
01:00But yeah, they were really bad.
01:01Leicester, they were probably the worst team I've seen.
01:03I know Southampton are already relegated and Leicester have picked up more points than them,
01:07but they were really bad.
01:09And the crowd had turned on them pretty much as soon as Murphy had scored.
01:12So yeah, it was a strange night on Monday.
01:16Buffer Newcastle, it's a win.
01:17And I think we said before the Brentford game, just you have to get wins at this stage of the season.
01:22They've got, they managed to keep this winning streak going.
01:25And yeah, that's all they need to do.
01:26And they put themselves in a good position.
01:27It was important they did that with Man City.
01:31Obviously, Jordan on Sunday, Brighton and Bournemouth both dropped on points, you know,
01:35and Nottingham Forest, of course.
01:36So it was nice for them to sort of keep their momentum in that race for European football.
01:39But yeah, so easy.
01:41And yeah, I'm sure you'll talk about it, but obviously that second goal, can we?
01:45I would dedicate the whole podcast to that, to be honest.
01:48I'm happy to talk about it.
01:49But yeah, it was just a really easy night.
01:51And yeah, three points, that's exactly what they needed.
01:54I'm actually quite good.
01:55Yeah, we'll come on to that story where we are.
01:57I'm actually quite gutted, to be honest, that Fabian Scher didn't score that goal.
02:01Because he, let's be honest, with that technique, he deserved it.
02:04I mean, from watching it myself, I was actually, I thought he should have initially played the ball,
02:08just cleaned through to Jacob Murphy, who was sprinting through.
02:11But of course, he sees the goalkeeper off his line, goes for the chip.
02:16And well, it's quite the strike.
02:22So unlucky that it doesn't just dip just in time, hits the bar.
02:26But Jacob Murphy reacts.
02:27He keeps on running, whereas the Leicester defence, they all just stand and bowl watch.
02:31And to be honest, Jacob Murphy, a little bit of a poor touch,
02:33but then, you know, it's the easiest of tasks to put it into the back of the net.
02:36It was just, that just sort of capped off what Leicester were about.
02:40I think not necessarily like the shyest shot, but the fact that none of them reacted when Murphy did.
02:46And obviously, I know Leicester gave the ball away an awful lot as well.
02:48But yeah, I mean, go for it.
02:51Tell us what you thought about it.
02:53Yeah, I think from the second it left his boot,
02:56I genuinely think 90% of that stadium probably thought it was in,
02:58from our point of view, in the press box, quite high up.
03:01It looked like it was going to dip in.
03:02And you're just sort of, you know, you're just watching it.
03:05And, you know, like other goals, it's quite instinctual.
03:07You have that one.
03:08You have the time to sort of think about, oh, this is actually going to go in.
03:11You can see they keep out struggling.
03:13And of course, it didn't.
03:15Murphy did really well to finish it eventually, as you see, after mistouching it.
03:19But yeah, it was just fantastic from Cher.
03:21There's not a lot of players in world football able to do that.
03:23Certainly not, you know, centre-backs.
03:24And the thing is, you're not really surprised.
03:27He's almost done that as well, because you just know he's capable of it.
03:30And that out of anyone in that team, he would be the one who does that.
03:33And much like when we talk about Tonali's goal against Brentford,
03:36he's probably the one who could score that.
03:37You'd think Fabi-Cher's probably the only Newcastle player who can score that kind of goal.
03:41But yeah, it was brilliant from him.
03:42And well done to Jacob Murphy following in.
03:44As you see, the Leicester players just stopped.
03:46And then that is a symptom of a team they are and where they are currently,
03:49where they're probably not just putting in that extra 5-10%.
03:52They're switching off at the wrong times.
03:53And yeah, Murphy finished up.
03:55And yeah, it was, I was just, I was good.
03:58Of course, I was good for Cher.
03:59They didn't go in.
04:00But, you know, it was, I'm glad that that won't be forgotten.
04:04You know, in the history that we'll always, you know,
04:06know that moment because of the goal.
04:08And I spoke to him after the game and he said that he thought he'd gone in.
04:11He thought he'd hit it perfectly.
04:12And he was a little bit good that it wasn't his.
04:15He was actually good that he didn't think he'd got the assist.
04:17I don't actually know if he has got the assist or not.
04:19But he was slightly good that he didn't get the assist in his mind.
04:22Like certainly, you know, in the immediate aftermath of the game.
04:24But yeah, Murphy did really well finish it up.
04:27And I think from what was at the 11th minute,
04:29that was, if the game over,
04:30if the game wasn't over after the second minute,
04:32it certainly was then.
04:33Yes, I completely agree.
04:35I mean, obviously then Barnes gets a third a bit later on.
04:38Some good work from Joe Linton and Izak to create that chance.
04:41But yeah, a comprehensive win for Newcastle.
