00:00Welcome to another episode of the Goalmouth Action Podcast, where we take all the latest goings-on at Brighton and Hove Albion.
00:07I'm Darren Howard, and this week I'm joined by Sussex World reporters Sam Morton and Henry Bryant, who both cover the fortunes of Brighton.
00:15Albion's poor recent run continued last Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 by old rivals Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
00:21It followed on from their FA Cup quarterfinal penalty shootout defeat to Nottingham Forest,
00:25and then a comprehensive Premier League loss to fellow European contenders Aston Villa.
00:30We'll look back at the painful loss at Palace, plus we'll bring you all the latest team news ahead of Albion's clash against relegation-bound Leicester City at the Amex Stadium this Saturday.
00:40You can read all the stories we're talking about with videos and pictures online at sussexworld.co.uk,
00:46and you can check out other great videos on shotstv.com and Freeview Channel 262.
00:52You may also be watching on Latest TV, so thank you very much for tuning in.
00:57But Sam, we'll start with you first, and no defeat at Palace is ever a good one. What did you make of the 2-1 loss there?
01:07Yeah, it was a really poor day at the office for Brighton again, really.
01:12I think it's obviously just a really bad week. It's obviously such a big week as well.
01:17So when you started, obviously, with the FA Cup game against Nottingham Forest in the quarterfinal with a chance to go to Wembley,
01:22a really big opportunity to actually go all the way in the competition and poor performance there,
01:26and they end up losing on penalties.
01:28Looked to bounce back against Aston Villa in another big game in the hunt for a Champions League place,
01:34and they still weren't quite themselves. I mean, they were well in the game in the first half,
01:38but Villa just completely ran away with it in the second half,
01:42and Brighton just really did look kind of short of confidence, knocking ideas.
01:47And then you think Palace is a great game to bounce back against their rivals.
01:51Form goes out the window.
01:52But it kind of got off to the worst possible start with Mateta scoring a superb goal.
01:57It was an unbelievable finish.
01:59Yeah, it was a good finish.
02:00Yeah, just after three minutes of the game.
02:02So it kind of just starts terribly.
02:05And Brighton did do well, got the equaliser through Danny Werbeck again,
02:09obviously becoming the outright leading scorer in Premier League history for Brighton.
02:13So that was a highlight moment from the game from their point of view.
02:17But then obviously you just think Brighton can push on from there and try and get another goal.
02:23But unfortunately it didn't happen.
02:25And it was Daniel Munoz who's got another really cracking goal.
02:29He's had a great season for Palace, obviously.
02:32Just an unbelievable kind of work course, isn't he?
02:34Kind of in defence and attack, and he's chipped in with a number of goals.
02:37And Brighton just didn't pick up his run on the edge of the box from Eze's pass.
02:40And they were 2-1 down.
02:42And you think, obviously, they've got to bounce back again.
02:44And then it just got crazy with three red cards in kind of the closing stages of the match.
02:51But it was actually Palace that went down to nine men with Enketia getting sent off,
02:56Mark Gahey getting sent off.
02:57And you think, it's nine men with 10 minutes to go.
02:59Surely Brighton got to equalise.
03:02And then they go and get a red card themselves.
03:04Van Hecker kind of put into danger by Mats Weefo, the poor pass.
03:07And Van Hecker's taken the kind of the punishment for it.
03:12And he's obviously been sent off.
03:14And obviously, it's 10 versus nine for the last few minutes.
03:16And Brighton couldn't get an equaliser.
03:18So, yeah, really poor result against the rivals.
03:20They've lost twice against Palace this season now.
03:22And just not at all how they wanted the game to go.
03:25And they've really got to bounce back quickly now.
03:27Because they're still winning with a chance of getting a European place.
03:30But in the form they're on, it does look a bit concerning.
03:33Yeah, yeah.
03:34Henry, you were at the game.
03:36What did you make of sort of Brighton's performance,
03:39the atmosphere and everything that surrounds that game?
03:42Fabian Hursdeller, after the match, spoke about
03:44they didn't manage the emotions of the occasion very well.
03:48But for me, I just think Brighton looked too easy to score against at the moment.
03:52Yeah, there's a lot of inconsistency this season.
03:55And more than we've seen under Roberto Di Zerbi.
03:58And, yeah, in that game, especially in that sort of first 20 minutes,
04:05Brighton just looked so, so vulnerable.
04:07And even before Mateta did get his goal,
04:11there was a goal that was sort of ruled off.
04:14And it just looked really cagey.
04:16I think that the way that Brighton came into this was all wrong, like you say.
04:20And like Hursdeller says.
04:21But you can't do that.
04:23You can't do that when the chips are down.
04:25And you're looking to make a statement against your rivals away.
04:30You need to be the ones on the front foot, even more so because of that.
04:34They just looked like they'd frozen a little bit.
04:37And from a fan's perspective, it just did seem very, very frustrating.
04:41And it's another case where Brighton go 1-0 down
04:44and then have to work back up to try and get something out of the game.
04:47And like we were mentioning, the red cards, obviously Crystal Palace got two
04:53and Ketia and Gehi.
04:55That was a massive, massive opportunity.
04:58And with 10 minutes of added time in this one,
05:00it just, it was such a topsy-turvy game for a neutral.
05:03It must have been such a good watch.
05:06But then with Jean-Paul Van Heek,
05:08who's been probably the most consistently solid centre-back
05:13that Brighton have had this season, making that sort of little mistake
05:17and getting sent off, it just didn't allow Brighton to get into the game
05:21in those last sort of four minutes because he got done for the red card
05:24in the sixth minute of that stoppage time.
05:27So, yeah, there just needed to be more.
05:30There needed to be more.
05:31I'm not sure what Fabian needs to do,
05:34but he's obviously been able to fight adversity before
05:37with that 7-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest.
05:39So, if you can do it again, brilliant.
05:43It does seem like a massive loss, though.
05:46We needed, Brighton needed a result there.
05:50And, yeah, they've just fallen down the table again.
05:53And it's so tight up there.
05:54And we've mentioned that sort of for the last few weeks.
05:57And that could be all the difference going into the final few games.
06:02Yeah, yeah.
06:03Like you said, they've slipped down the table.
06:04So, they're in ninth place at the moment.
06:06And obviously, the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa,
06:09they look as though they're finishing strongly.
06:11But it's still in with the chances of Europe, as we mentioned.
06:15But three losses, Sam, since the international break.
06:20That really killed their momentum, didn't it?
06:22Do you think that it's that simple just to say
06:24that the international break just,
06:26they haven't come back as fresh as what they were before?
06:29Yeah, I think it could be that.
06:31I mean, obviously, we've seen it work into Brighton's benefit
06:34in the past where they've been kind of obviously in a bad run of form.
06:38And then the international break has gone at a good time
06:40and managed to get some players back from injury.
06:42And they've been improved after the break.
06:43But it was the complete opposite this time
06:45when Brighton really were looking forward to every game,
06:48playing with so much confidence.
06:50And everything was looking really rosy from Brighton's point of view.
06:53And, yeah, that international break did seem to stifle it
06:56a little bit, unfortunately.
06:57And obviously, they've obviously had a lot of players
06:59go out and play for their countries,
07:01which is obviously great for Brighton.
07:03It just shows how far they've come
07:04and kind of, yeah, just the quality they've got in the team
07:07that they are being picked for their national teams.
07:10I think the problem is obviously just how far
07:11they've had to travel in that international break.
07:14And they really did look leggy, some of these players,
07:17especially kind of players like Eshterpinha.
07:19And I think they've travelled the most minutes out of anyone.
07:22They'll play the most minutes after travelling
07:23the most distance out of anyone, I should say.
07:26And I think that really did have an effect
07:28on that Nottingham Forest game, especially,
07:29because you just saw Brighton really look
07:32kind of out of sorts and weren't themselves,
07:35didn't have enough energy and enough about them
07:38in those kind of forward areas.
07:39And obviously, they were good defensively.
07:41Obviously, they managed to keep Forrest out of the game
07:42for 120 minutes and Forrest barely looked like scoring.
07:46So, you've got to praise Brighton
07:47from a defensive point of view.
07:48And what they were just attacking,
07:49they're just not quite at it.
07:52And obviously, they did then crumble against Villa
07:55and obviously against Palace as well,
07:56where they've obviously then suddenly started conceding goals
08:00as well as not being able to score
08:02as freely as they were.
08:04So, yeah, so concerning running games,
08:06but football changes so quickly.
08:08And just as quickly as it's gone bad
08:10from a really good run of form,
08:11it can very quickly get back on track again.
08:14And I think there's no better way to do that
08:17than if it gets Leicester in their run of form.
08:19Obviously, it's a terrible run of form
08:21from Leicester's point of view.
08:22So, they can't buy a goal or a win at the moment.
08:26I think Brighton really have to get back
08:29to winning ways in style, I think, in this game
08:31and really get back to what they were doing
08:34before the international break, I think,
08:36and just to get that confidence flowing again.
08:38Because they were still well in with the chance
08:40of a European place.
08:41So, I think it's just...
08:42And then if they get a couple of wins in a row,
08:43they'll be right back in a good spot in the league again.
08:48Yeah, yeah.
08:49No, it is competitive for those European places, Henry.
08:52Henry, is Champions League looks now out of reach, doesn't it?
08:56Europa League is obviously a realistic target,
08:59but would you like a conference league?
09:02It's sort of sometimes fans are a bit sort of...
09:05You know, they look at the conference league
09:06and say, do we really want to be involved in that?
09:08But I think any European football would be great, wouldn't it?
09:12And if Brighton are looking to take the next step
09:14and compete regularly
09:15and attract the bigger players,
09:19then conference league is maybe a good thing?
09:23Obviously, your Open League would be better, but...
09:26Yeah, I think that for Brighton fans,
09:30there is an element of fickleness sometimes
09:33because Brighton weren't competing at this level
09:36and they were struggling massively just a few years ago.
09:40So for Brighton to be in a position now
09:42where we're debating whether it's going to be
09:44the Champions League, Europa League or the Conference League
09:47is outrageous.
09:49It's outrageous.
09:50And, you know, it was almost a dream come true.
09:53So I think any European position next season
09:57is fantastic.
09:58And when you look at the Conference League,
10:00I mean, West Ham's won it.
10:02And it's a trophy.
10:03It's a trophy.
10:04It's silverware.
10:05And it's a realistic target for Fabian Hursley
10:08in his first season as Brighton head coach,
10:10especially with all the pressure that he's had
10:13being the youngest permanent manager
10:15in Premier League history.
10:16That comes with pressure.
10:18He won't admit that,
10:20but that must come with a lot of pressure.
10:22And it's also something that the players need to adapt to as well,
10:25especially those senior players
10:26that are now being coached
10:28under someone that is, you know, younger than them.
10:31So I think that in terms of European football,
10:35it is out of the question now
10:36are the Champions League positions,
10:38although, you know,
10:39it did look favourable at some points in the season.
10:42I think that Europa League or Conference League
10:45would be fantastic.
10:46And either of them would be great opportunities
10:48for Brighton to compete.
10:50I mean, going from the round of 16,
10:53obviously losing out to Roma
10:54when they got their first season in Europe,
10:56that was what a hell of a ride that was.
10:58Using their first game in the group to Ike Athens
11:01and then ending up topping that group
11:03with some really dramatic goals
11:04late in in games with Gael Pedro starring.
11:08So if Brighton are able to get into the Europa League,
11:12great.
11:12But I think Conference League would actually be
11:14that little bit more exciting
11:15from a realistic point of view,
11:18because it means Brighton have a bigger chance
11:20of winning something.
11:21And that would be fantastic,
11:22not just for the club,
11:23but for the city.
11:24And I think that boosts everything.
11:27Yeah.
11:28Yeah.
11:28Would you agree with that, Sam?
11:29Would you be,
11:30do you think Europa League
11:31and a Conference League campaign?
11:33Because it almost feels as though
11:34they've been to the Europa League
11:35and then you think they've spent
11:37200 million new manager.
11:40And then is it a step back then
11:42to sort of say,
11:44yeah, we're, you know,
11:45we're dropping down to the Conference League.
11:47But of that 200 million spend,
11:50I guess only Jorginho Ruter,
11:52who's now injured, obviously,
11:54and Yankouba Minter have proved value for money,
11:56haven't they?
11:57The others have struggled with injury.
11:59Yeah, 100%.
12:00100%, yeah.
12:01I think obviously they've made,
12:01they've spent a lot of money
12:02and obviously a couple of players
12:04have really lived up to that so far.
12:07But as we know with Brighton,
12:08it can take time with some of the players.
12:10Some of the signings don't come good straight away
12:12and it takes a couple of years
12:13for them to really bed in
12:15and kind of show their best form.
12:18But I think in terms of Europe,
12:20I think any European competition
12:21will be brilliant from a Brighton point of view.
12:22And I completely agree with Henry
12:24that they look at the Conference League
12:25as a really good chance of winning it
12:26because I remember being asked a question
12:28this season,
12:29would they rather win the FA Cup
12:30or qualify for the Champions League?
12:33And I said,
12:33it's a no-brainer that they'd win the FA Cup
12:35because winning trophies
12:36is what it's all about
12:37and something that Brighton haven't done
12:39in such a long time.
12:39So, yeah, obviously a real shame.
12:42They obviously went out
12:43in the quarterfinal stage
12:45and obviously then couldn't keep up
12:47the fight for the Champions League.
12:49And obviously it's not completely
12:49out of the question.
12:50It would take a bit of a collapse
12:51from Newcastle
12:52that looked really good at the moment.
12:54I think Man City would have to
12:56have a couple of defeats as well
12:57and obviously Aston Villa.
12:58So not completely out of the question,
12:59but I think they've got to be looking
13:01at the Conference League
13:02as kind of the very minimum.
13:04I think now for the season they've had,
13:05it would be a disappointment.
13:06I think not to get
13:07any kind of European tournament
13:10next season
13:11after kind of how brilliant
13:13they have been
13:13for large parts of the season.
13:16And obviously getting to
13:17the quarterfinal stages
13:17of the FA Cup
13:19to then come away
13:19completely empty-handed
13:21would be a shame.
13:22And I think, yeah,
13:23if you're looking to win
13:24and try for the Conference League
13:25it's got to be the best opportunity
13:26and doing that
13:27in the European stage next season.
13:29But there'll be absolutely
13:30no complaints
13:30if they got to the Europa League again
13:31because it was
13:32a momentous kind of season.
13:34Yeah, it was such good fun.
13:36I think they would love
13:37to be able to do that
13:38all over again
13:39and some of the big teams
13:40they go and play
13:41and they obviously got
13:42extremely lucky
13:42with their first
13:43Europa League campaign
13:46with some of the teams
13:46they got drawn to play against.
13:48They would just, yeah,
13:50would love to go for all that
13:51all over again.
13:53So I think it's, yeah,
13:53either one would be great.
13:55But if you, yeah,
13:56completely agree with Henry.
13:56If you want to win a trophy
13:58in the Conference League
13:59it's probably the best
13:59opportunity in Europe.
14:02Great stuff.
14:02Well, thanks, sir.
14:03Thanks, guys.
14:04Join us after the break
14:05and we'll be looking ahead
14:05to the game against Leicester City
14:07at the Amex Stadium
14:08this Saturday.
14:10Well, welcome back
14:11to the Goalmouth Action Podcast.
14:13Brighton are back
14:14in Premier League action
14:15this Saturday
14:15as they welcome
14:16relegation-bound Leicester
14:17to the Amex Stadium
14:18this Saturday.
14:20Henry,
14:21obviously this sort of
14:23comes into
14:23must-win territory now,
14:25doesn't it?
14:25Because you sort of lost
14:26three matches on the bounce
14:27in all competitions.
14:29Relegation,
14:30they look as though
14:31they're doomed,
14:32don't they?
14:32Leicester City
14:33lost 3-0
14:34against Newcastle
14:36on Monday night.
14:38This is a game
14:39that Brighton
14:39just have to be up for,
14:41isn't it?
14:41And get three points
14:42hook or by crook.
14:45Absolutely.
14:4619th position,
14:47relegation-bound.
14:48Ruvan Nisaroy's
14:49sort of made
14:50the next side worse.
14:52I'm not sure
14:52how he's managed
14:53to do that.
14:55He's made it worse.
14:57It sounds like
14:58there's been a lot
14:59of internal conflict
15:00between players
15:01and it's,
15:03yeah,
15:03almost every other week
15:04you're hearing about Leicester
15:05and something
15:06that's not going
15:07quite right there.
15:07So,
15:08if Brighton are able
15:10to do a job,
15:11as Sam was saying,
15:12a proper performance
15:13against a side
15:15like Leicester
15:15in the form they're in
15:16and what's going on
15:18with them currently,
15:18then,
15:19yeah,
15:20then there are
15:21alarm bells ringing
15:22for all Brighton fans
15:24thinking,
15:25oh no,
15:25is this going to be
15:26a sinking ship
15:27at the end of the season?
15:28Is the stock market
15:29going to crash
15:30for us as a football club
15:32as well as the rest
15:33of the world
15:33at the moment?
15:34So,
15:34it's weird.
15:35It's weird.
15:36I'm genuinely scared.
15:38I'm genuinely scared
15:39because Brighton
15:39have been
15:40that inconsistent
15:41at times
15:42when you need them
15:44to be consistent
15:44in this season
15:45and
15:46you just don't get it.
15:48It's quite a frustrating
15:49thing because
15:50you'll have the performance
15:51of your life
15:52one week,
15:53you know,
15:53almost beating
15:54Manchester City away
15:56and then out of nowhere
15:57you're losing
15:58to Leicester City
15:59and you're trying
16:00to fight for a place
16:01in, you know,
16:02a European competition.
16:03I think Brighton
16:04will do it.
16:05I don't think
16:06they'll make it easy
16:06and I do think
16:07that they'll concede
16:08first,
16:09knowing Brighton,
16:11but I do think
16:11that they'll be able
16:12to get the job done
16:13and I do think
16:14sort of,
16:15there'll be a few nerves
16:16to be honest
16:16in that first half
16:17because they will be
16:18wanting to put on
16:19a performance.
16:20They, yeah,
16:21he's been mentioning
16:22that in press conferences
16:23that he wants to sort of
16:24get the fans
16:25in the mood
16:26and, you know,
16:27get them knowing
16:28that Brighton players
16:29are putting in
16:30maximum effort,
16:31which I thought
16:31was a fair comment
16:32and now they just need
16:34to show it on the pitch
16:35really.
16:36I mean,
16:36they didn't not try
16:37against Crystal Palace
16:38but it just seemed like
16:39from the get-go
16:40they weren't there.
16:42They're going to need
16:43to be there for Leicester
16:43because they're going
16:44to see this as an opportunity
16:45to pick up some points
16:47because of Brighton's form
16:48and, yeah,
16:50we'll see.
16:50We'll see how this one goes
16:51but I can see Brighton
16:53winning this
16:54but it'll be,
16:54it'll be a slog.
16:56It'll be something
16:56where in the second half
16:58they start to sort of
16:58gain their confidence again
17:00and let's see,
17:02let's see where that goes.
17:04Yeah,
17:04I think,
17:04I think you're right,
17:05Henry.
17:05It is a young team,
17:07isn't it?
17:07This Brighton team
17:08at the moment
17:08and I think
17:09you are going to get
17:10these inconsistent
17:11performances with that
17:12but as far as Leicester
17:14are concerned,
17:15Sam,
17:16it's probably one of those
17:18classic cases
17:18where they should have
17:19just stuck with,
17:20they panicked a bit,
17:21didn't they,
17:21and got rid of Steve Cooper
17:22and they'd probably be
17:23in a better position now
17:24if they'd have kept him,
17:25wouldn't they,
17:26than chopping
17:27and changing manager
17:28but they've been in trouble.
17:32Facundo Boniotti,
17:33the Brighton player,
17:34he's had a season
17:35on loan with Leicester,
17:37started really well,
17:38like I think he had
17:39four goals,
17:40four assists in his,
17:41you know,
17:42in his first 10 matches
17:43and looked their best player
17:45and the best chance
17:46they had of staying
17:46in the Premier League
17:47but since Cooper left,
17:49Van Nistelrooy
17:50hasn't really got the best
17:52out of him,
17:52has he,
17:52and his form has dipped.
17:55Yeah,
17:55100%
17:56and it's a strange one
17:57because he actually
17:58hasn't started a game
17:59since the 2-0 defeat
18:00at West Ham
18:01on the 27th of February
18:02so that's four games
18:05that he's been
18:06a bench player for
18:07and obviously we know
18:08that he obviously
18:08won't be able to start
18:09or play against Brighton
18:11obviously because of
18:12the loan rules
18:13and nothing like that
18:14so it's a strange one
18:15with Leicester
18:15and the form they're in
18:16to not even be starting him
18:18it's bizarre.
18:19Obviously I haven't been
18:20following it
18:22that closely
18:23in terms of
18:24his performances
18:24and why that would be
18:26but obviously it just shows
18:28he hasn't been able
18:30to live up to
18:30that early promise
18:31he showed when he first
18:32was loaned out
18:33to Leicester
18:34and it's an unusual one
18:36because obviously we know
18:37the quality he has
18:37and he really did show it
18:39on a number of occasions
18:40in a Brighton shirt
18:40and he was obviously
18:41loaned out to Leicester
18:43to get first team games
18:44and to get minutes
18:45in the Premier League
18:46and if he's not getting that
18:47he's only been brought on
18:48for the last half an hour
18:49last 20 minutes of games
18:50it's probably not ideal
18:52for anyone
18:53for him
18:54Brighton
18:55Leicester
18:55it's a strange one
18:57so it'll be interesting
18:58to see
18:59kind of what happens
19:00with him
19:00for next season
19:01if he's given another loan
19:02maybe to a Championship side
19:04that he might perhaps
19:04get definite minutes
19:06from the start
19:07but yeah
19:08we know what he can do
19:09and we've seen
19:10in the early stages
19:12for Leicester
19:12and at Brighton
19:13so hopefully
19:15hopefully he can still
19:16he can still come good
19:17and yeah
19:20I'm looking forward
19:20to seeing
19:21kind of how his career
19:22develops from this point
19:24but from a Leicester
19:25point of view
19:26I mean they're
19:26obviously the first team
19:27in English football history
19:28to lose eight consecutive
19:29home league games
19:30without scoring a single goal
19:31and if Lennotti
19:33is not starting in that
19:34then you think
19:35what's going on
19:35but yeah
19:36what's going on
19:38yeah obviously
19:39they just can't
19:39score for love nor money
19:40and Brighton have to be
19:42looking at this
19:43as a must win
19:44comfortably game
19:46not even just
19:46a narrow win
19:47will do
19:48they need to win this
19:49easily
19:50get the confidence
19:51going again
19:51get a few goals again
19:53get your goal scorers
19:54back in
19:54shape for the final
19:57final running of the season
19:58that's really important
19:59at this stage now
20:00to kind of put these
20:01poor running results
20:02behind Brighton
20:04and to
20:04yeah really push on
20:06and make sure
20:07they don't
20:07kind of do what
20:09they did last season
20:09and just stutter
20:10in the last game
20:11the last few games
20:12of the season
20:12and just all petered out
20:13so hopefully
20:15that doesn't happen again
20:16yeah
20:17injuries
20:18you can't ignore
20:19the injuries
20:19of course
20:20when you look at
20:21the inconsistent
20:22performances at times
20:23the Eagles
20:24obviously
20:24well he's actually
20:25pictured back in
20:26training Igor
20:27this week
20:27but obviously
20:29he's going to be
20:30too early against
20:31Leicester
20:31but they've got
20:32Adam Webster out
20:32James Milner out
20:33Joel Veltman
20:35Tarek Lamptey
20:36and for me
20:38the biggest miss
20:38Henry is
20:39Jorginho Ruter
20:40at the moment
20:41how badly
20:44are Brighton
20:45missing him
20:46I think
20:48they're missing him
20:48dearly
20:49I think it showed
20:50with that Crystal
20:50Palace game
20:51I think he just
20:52gives Brighton
20:53an element of
20:54flair
20:54an attack
20:55very similar
20:55to a more
20:57attacking Pascal
20:57Gross type of
20:59player
20:59just being able
21:00to find that
21:01sort of pass
21:01that threads it
21:03through
21:03or to be able
21:03to jink through
21:04a couple of
21:05players
21:05and get the
21:06ball into a
21:07dangerous position
21:08for a player
21:09like Jael Pedro
21:09or Danny Welbeck
21:11who's come off
21:12the bench
21:12to maybe get
21:13something
21:14so I think
21:15he's been
21:16a big miss
21:17and I think
21:18it's also
21:18his personality
21:19the way he
21:20comes across
21:21on and off
21:22the pitch
21:23just seems
21:23to raise
21:25a team
21:26spirit
21:26and it's
21:27really nice
21:28what he's been
21:29able to bring
21:30Brighton
21:30I think it's
21:31a very positive
21:32signing
21:33and as we were
21:34speaking about
21:34he's probably
21:35the only player
21:36that although
21:37he did sign
21:37for £40 million
21:38he has done
21:40the business
21:41but he's been
21:42a great miss
21:42and also
21:43it's worth
21:44mentioning
21:44about Jean-Paul
21:45Van Heek
21:45that's going to
21:46be serving
21:47a one-match
21:47suspension
21:48after the
21:49dismissal
21:50in that 2-1
21:50loss
21:51Joel Veltman
21:52I think
21:52is a massive
21:53loss
21:53as well
21:54I mean
21:55it's looking
21:55like he's
21:55doubtful
21:56for this
21:56game
21:57and I
21:58think
21:58that
21:59his
21:59experience
22:00has just
22:01been
22:01second to
22:02none
22:02when he's
22:03been on
22:03the pitch
22:03I don't
22:04think
22:04he's
22:04composure
22:05composure
22:05doesn't
22:05he
22:05yeah
22:06I think
22:08he's
22:08missed
22:09the last
22:09six or
22:09seven
22:09games
22:10now
22:10so
22:10yeah
22:11that's
22:11well
22:11and with
22:12Van Hecker
22:13out
22:13I think
22:13that could
22:14be
22:14Aaron
22:14Cashion
22:15maybe
22:15could
22:16come in
22:16as another
22:18centre-back
22:19unless he
22:19changes it
22:20to a
22:20back
22:20three
22:20which
22:21hasn't
22:21always
22:22gone
22:22well
22:22in the
22:23past
22:24when he's
22:24tried
22:25that
22:25but
22:25yeah
22:26an interesting
22:27line-up
22:27against
22:28Leicester
22:29Sam
22:30just a
22:30quick word
22:31on Danny
22:31Wilbeck
22:32as well
22:32he moved
22:33to 31
22:34Premier League
22:34goals for
22:35Brighton
22:35Hove
22:36Albion
22:36with his
22:36first half
22:37strike
22:38against
22:38Crystal
22:39Palace
22:39he's now
22:40above
22:41Pascal
22:42Gross
22:43as the
22:43outright
22:44Premier League
22:45top goal
22:45scorer
22:45for Brighton
22:46above the
22:46likes of
22:47Neil
22:47Morpé
22:47Glenn
22:48Murray
22:48that's a
22:49great
22:49achievement
22:50isn't it
22:50he's playing
22:50some of the
22:51best football
22:51in his
22:52career
22:52at 34
22:53yeah
22:54100%
22:55he's been
22:56a revelation
22:56this season
22:57scored some
22:58really crucial
22:59goals at
22:59key times
23:00and just
23:01kind of
23:01showing
23:01his class
23:02on so
23:03many
23:03different
23:04occasions
23:04for Brighton
23:05and you
23:06kind of
23:06thought at
23:06the start
23:06of the
23:06season
23:07with the
23:07signings
23:07they'd
23:08made
23:08that he
23:08might be
23:09starting to
23:09be
23:10obviously
23:11pushed out
23:11a little bit
23:12not used
23:12as often
23:13just maybe
23:14using his
23:14experience
23:14and his
23:15know-how
23:16to help
23:16these younger
23:16players
23:17which he's
23:18done
23:18but then he's
23:18also kind of
23:19shown them
23:19how it's
23:20done
23:20on so many
23:22occasions
23:22and he's
23:23been brought
23:23off the bench
23:24when things
23:24aren't going
23:25well
23:25and he's
23:25kind of
23:26found those
23:26killer strikes
23:27and moments
23:28and you
23:29thought he'd
23:29done it
23:29again
23:30against
23:30Palace
23:31and obviously
23:31it's a bad
23:32start to the
23:33match
23:33they're a goal
23:33down
23:34and he's
23:34dragged them
23:35level
23:35with a nice
23:36finish
23:37it was obviously
23:37a great cross
23:38from Inter
23:38as well
23:39and he thought
23:40they'd kick on
23:41from there
23:41and he'd be
23:42the catalyst
23:42for yet another
23:43solid comeback
23:46but unfortunately
23:47he didn't pan out
23:48that way
23:48and that's no
23:48fault of
23:49World Vets
23:50but you wonder
23:50where they'd be
23:51without him
23:52despite all the
23:52money they've
23:53spent and
23:53everything like
23:54that
23:54it just
23:55goes to show
23:56what a professional
23:57he is
23:58and just how
23:58he's really
23:59getting better
23:59with age
24:00and we've
24:01mentioned before
24:01how I think
24:03people like
24:03Wayne Rooney
24:03have said
24:04they'd love
24:04to have him
24:05back watching
24:06him again
24:06at Man United
24:07and you wonder
24:08what Man United
24:08were thinking
24:09all those years
24:10ago
24:11really
24:12because he
24:12really has
24:13got better
24:14with age
24:14and he's
24:15a brilliant
24:16provider
24:17and definitely
24:17one of the
24:18all-time
24:18greats
24:19in a Brighton
24:19shirt
24:20and it's
24:21great to see
24:21him still
24:22spanking
24:22the goals
24:22and long
24:23may it
24:23continue
24:24long may it
24:25continue
24:26yeah
24:26I totally
24:27agree
24:28and a
24:28contender
24:29for player
24:29of the season
24:30probably
24:30Danny
24:30Welbeck
24:31along with
24:31Van Hecker
24:32maybe
24:32but yeah
24:34just a little
24:35bit of transfer
24:36gossip Henry
24:36there's some
24:37news came out
24:38this in the
24:39last couple of
24:40days that Brighton
24:41have been linked
24:41with Ipswich town
24:42striker Liam
24:43de Lapp
24:43apparently he's
24:45got a 40
24:45million pound
24:46release clause
24:47at Portman
24:48Road
24:48that would be
24:50some signing
24:50wouldn't it
24:51for Brighton
24:52he's looked
24:53brilliant
24:53hasn't he
24:53this season
24:54yeah
24:55from an
24:56investment
24:56point of
24:57view
24:57I think
24:58it'd be a
24:58fantastic
24:59one for
24:59Tony
24:59yeah
24:5922 years
25:04old
25:0412 goals
25:05two assists
25:05this season
25:06so far
25:07it'd be a
25:08great buy
25:09Welbeck's not
25:10getting any
25:10younger
25:10we've been
25:11praising him
25:12loads
25:12but you know
25:13he's not
25:14getting any
25:14younger
25:14but he does
25:15seem to be
25:15ageing like a
25:16fine wine
25:16at the
25:16moment
25:17he has
25:17been
25:18fantastic
25:19and that
25:20Premier League
25:21record for
25:22Brighton goals
25:23is just a
25:24testament to
25:25what he's been
25:26able to do
25:26but yeah
25:27Liam DeLapp
25:27he's been
25:28something else
25:29and if Brighton
25:30are able to
25:31get their
25:32hands on him
25:32I think that
25:34they will be
25:35in a serious
25:36chance next
25:37season to
25:38really consolidate
25:39themselves as
25:41a sort of
25:42European pushing
25:43side and if
25:44Brighton are able
25:45to get into
25:45let's say the
25:46Europa League
25:47or the
25:48conference I
25:49think that he
25:49could be a
25:49massive factor
25:50into what
25:51they're able
25:52to do in
25:52those competitions
25:53especially with
25:54the likes of
25:54Gio Pedro being
25:55linked to this
25:56club that
25:57club another
25:57club every
25:58other week
25:59it seems like
26:00as well because
26:00as we know
26:01Brighton are a
26:02selling side as
26:03well so this
26:04summer there'll be
26:05some more
26:05outgoings I'm
26:06sure especially
26:07for key players
26:07I mean we
26:08almost lost
26:08Mitoma in the
26:11January transfer
26:11window so you
26:12never know what's
26:13going to happen
26:13there but
26:14that would be
26:15a fantastic buy
26:16I think Brighton
26:17fans would be
26:17very chuffed
26:18yeah no you're
26:20right there has
26:20been a lot of
26:21talk about
26:21Pedro and
26:22perhaps if you
26:22could get 80
26:23million for
26:23Pedro then
26:24spend 40
26:24million on
26:25Dilap that
26:25would be quite
26:26a good piece
26:27of business
26:27Sam are you
26:28a Dilap
26:28fan?
26:29Yeah 100%
26:30I think it's
26:30obviously been a
26:31poor season for
26:33Upswich they've
26:34not been able to
26:35score goals
26:37obviously thanks to
26:37players like
26:38Dilap they've just
26:39not been able to
26:39hold on to
26:40leads and they've
26:41just been able to
26:42play for 90
26:42minutes yeah
26:43yeah yeah and
26:44there's been some
26:45decent performances
26:46but they've just
26:46not been able to
26:47hold on we saw
26:48recently against Wolves
26:49they took the lead
26:49and ended up losing
26:50the game and what
26:51was a must-win game
26:52to kind of keep
26:52their hopes alive of
26:53staying in the
26:54Premier League so
26:55when it's really
26:56mattered they've
26:56fallen short but
26:57Dilap has been that
26:58one constant
26:59throughout the season
27:01and he's just been
27:02banging in the goals
27:02and to do that in a
27:03struggling team
27:04in a relegation
27:05throwing team I
27:06think really shows
27:07you've got something
27:07about you you're not
27:08just kind of flying
27:09when everything's
27:10rosy around you
27:11and he's really
27:12kind of dragged
27:13the team through
27:14some difficult
27:14periods and giving
27:16them a fighting
27:16chance of staying
27:17now obviously
27:18it's more so
27:20than Leicester
27:20more so than
27:21Southampton
27:22and obviously
27:22Southampton
27:22were really
27:23relegated so
27:24it was just
27:25obviously done
27:25better than
27:25those two
27:26teams and if
27:27that's any
27:27consolation
27:28that's thanks
27:29to Liam
27:30Dilap who has
27:30been brilliant
27:31this season
27:31if Bright were
27:32able to sign
27:33him I think
27:34it would be
27:35brilliant because
27:35you've seen
27:36how important
27:37a proper
27:37out and out
27:38striker is
27:39you've seen
27:40it for Forrest
27:40how brilliant
27:41Chris Wood's been
27:42for them this
27:42season and how
27:43much of a
27:44difference maker
27:44and just how
27:45someone that can
27:46just be in that
27:47box all the
27:47time and just
27:48putting in
27:48those chances
27:49and obviously
27:49we've seen it
27:49with Welbeck
27:50but as obviously
27:51we've said
27:52he's getting to
27:53that kind of
27:53the end point
27:54of his career
27:54and you wonder
27:55how long he's
27:55going to be able
27:56to keep going
27:56at this form
27:57but bringing
27:58in someone
27:58of Liam
28:00Dilap's quality
28:00and the age
28:01that he's at
28:01would be a top
28:02signing and
28:03investment for
28:04Brighton as well
28:05yeah yeah
28:06well we'll keep
28:07an eye on that
28:08one I'm sure
28:08there'll be plenty
28:09of competition
28:10for his signature
28:11but with that
28:12NCISO link
28:13as well
28:13at Ipswich
28:14if Ipswich
28:14wanted to keep
28:15NCISO
28:16you know
28:18for their
28:18champion
28:18if they want
28:19to push up
28:19in a championship
28:20that could be
28:21a bargaining chip
28:21as well
28:22in Brighton's
28:23favour
28:23so but anyway
28:24we'll watch
28:25that one
28:25with interest
28:26you can read
28:27all the stories
28:28we've been
28:28talking about
