00:00Well, we recap our latest storm, take a look at snow totals.
00:03The latest drought monitor is out.
00:04It doesn't include this storm, but it does
00:06include the weekend storm.
00:07And spring is back on track as we head into next week.
00:10So impressive snow totals here out of West Central
00:24and Northern Minnesota and along the North Shore.
00:27Basically, all these orange dots are 8 to 12 plus inches
00:31of snow, many places coming in at over a foot,
00:35just over a foot in Garfield, right outside of Alexandria.
00:38Fergus Falls had 15 inches of snow,
00:41but the winner was Hovland on the North Shore, which
00:43has gotten the most snow of the whole winter and on average
00:46is one of our snowiest spots in the state, way up here,
00:49deep into the Arrowhead here into Cook County.
00:5215.2 inches of snow, but Finland saw over a foot of snow.
00:56Duluth saw about 7 inches of snow, 7 to 9 inches of snow,
01:00and importantly, a lot of water.
01:02Once again, these March-April storms
01:05are known for lots of water content,
01:08an inch to an inch and a half of liquid equivalent.
01:10Now, this doesn't factor into this morning's drought update
01:13because the data cutoff is 7 AM Tuesday,
01:17but the weekend storm does.
01:18And we did see a swath of South Central Minnesota
01:20taken out of drought.
01:22So not a huge difference on the scope of the state.
01:25We went from 66% to 63% of the state in drought,
01:28but places like Mankato, Owatonna, Faribault,
01:31taken out of moderate drought.
01:32And we saw way more precip in the month of March
01:34than we did all of winter combined,
01:36December, January, February.
01:38In fact, in the Twin Cities, more
01:39than double the water content in March
01:41than all of December, January, February.
01:43Cooler today, or coolish, I should
01:46say it'll actually be warmer than yesterday, but mostly 40s
01:48for highs, lingering clouds.
01:50We will see some peaks of sun, breaks in the clouds
01:52developing, especially later in the day as the day progresses.
01:55But some instability-driven pop-up showers
01:57are possible in northern Minnesota.
01:58And finally, sunshine Saturday, Sunday, much of next week
02:02looks pretty bright, too.
02:03But some instability showers, as I mentioned,
02:05popping up in northern Minnesota.
02:06These will be mostly in the form of rain.
02:08But in northeastern Minnesota, maybe a spotty snow shower
02:11or two.
02:12That'll be mostly in the northern part of the state,
02:14though.
02:15Highs tomorrow will be warmer for us
02:17in the Twin Cities and points south, low to mid 50s,
02:20but 30s to the west.
02:22We've got a cold front that's going
02:23to be moving through later in the day tomorrow.
02:24And that's going to touch off another chance of precip.
02:27This is our last chance of precip, though,
02:28for probably a week.
02:30Some snow and rain showers ahead of that cold front,
02:33slowly moving east.
02:34So already late morning, western Minnesota,
02:37but not until probably late tomorrow night or early
02:39Saturday for us in eastern Minnesota.
02:42And most of it's fizzling out by then.
02:44But behind the fronts, it'll be cooler again,
02:4640s southern Minnesota, 30s to the north.
02:48And we're going to stay on the coolish side of normal
02:50into early next week.
02:51So here's that first cool blast for the weekend, mostly 40s.
02:56Again, normal highs in the low 50s now for the Twin Cities.
02:58But another blast of even colder air, pretty potent.
03:01But for one day on Monday, we may not get out of the 30s,
03:04even in the Twin Cities, even with sunshine,
03:06strong April sun.
03:07So that gives you an idea of how cold that chunk of air
03:10is moving through Monday.
03:1130s to near 40, 30s and 20s only for highs
03:14in northern Minnesota.
03:15But the pattern is a lot quieter.
03:16Again, after tomorrow's fairly modest precip,
03:20we'll see the potential for very little precip, actually,
03:24in eastern Minnesota.
03:25And most of what you see in western Minnesota
03:27is the result of that front late tomorrow.
03:29Slushy coating of snow even possible in northern Minnesota
03:32tomorrow.
03:33And western Minnesota, maybe an inch or so.
03:34But Twin Cities, probably nothing.
03:35And then by next Saturday, we're well into the 60s,
03:38maybe even near 70.
03:39Hear those spring temperatures.
03:40So we're in for a cool stretch overall,
03:42below normal the next several days.
03:44But then next week, we pop in the 60s, maybe even
03:4670-degree readings.
03:48The American model still tries to give us some 80s at some
03:50point here by mid-April.
03:53So we'll see if that pans out.
03:5545 today, lingering clouds.
03:57But again, we should see some peaks of sun,
03:59especially in the afternoon hours.
04:00And then tomorrow, mix of clouds and sun,
04:03but mainly cloudy in the afternoon.
04:04Low 50s for highs.
04:05That's close to normal, though, actually.
04:07And then late in the day, again, a few showers possible,
04:10mainly in the overnight tomorrow night.
04:12Northern and western Minnesota in the afternoon hours,
04:14some rain and snow showers.
04:15Again, potential for a slushy coating of snow
04:17in northern and western Minnesota.
04:19But we're talking probably an inch or less in those areas.
04:22And then the weekend's brighter.
04:24Temporarily a little warmer again on Sunday,
04:26but cold Monday.
04:27And then spring temperatures back next week.
04:30Lots of sunshine, too, next week.
04:32And overall dry weather until maybe Thursday,
04:34we could see a few showers again.
