00:00Yet another Chinese sea vessel was spotted in the country's archipelagic waters and trailed all the way to the south near the Tawi-Tawi Islands by the country's PCG security patrol.
00:11But this time the Chinese ship tagged Song Hang, a research vessel like its captain claimed, was on an innocent passage sail and headed somewhere to the Indian Ocean.
00:20Our Patrick D'Souza fills us in with more.
00:23This was the response of the Chinese research vessel Song Hang to the radio challenge from the Philippine Coast Guard ship BRP Malapascua.
00:51The research vessel was last spotted 35 nautical miles from Mapun Island, Tawi-Tawi on Thursday noon, heading toward the Indian Ocean for fishing.
01:00Based on its radio response, Song Hang passed through the archipelagic sea lanes of the Philippines under the right of innocent passage, carrying 25 Chinese nationals as crew members.
01:13According to the PCG, the vessel proceeded with its voyage after being monitored and having shown no suspicious activity all throughout.
01:22As what we did yesterday, we have been closely monitoring and informing them that they are not authorized to conduct marine scientific research.
01:32And based on our monitoring, we did not see that they lowered their equipment whatsoever.
01:38China, meanwhile, issued a warning in response to the statement of AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Browder, Jr. regarding the possibility of a Taiwan invasion.
01:49The Chinese foreign ministry reiterated that the Taiwan issue is an internal affair and that no one should interfere.
01:56The AFP clarified that General Browder's statement was not a declaration of heightened alert, but rather a preparation for all possible scenarios,
02:06focusing particularly on non-combatant evacuation operations for the 250,000 OFWs in Taiwan should conflict arise.
02:16This was also reiterated by Malacanang.
02:19The Filipinos should not interfere because we have been doing this for a long time, preparedness for evacuation.
02:27We are not going to war unless they involve us, of course.
02:33China also raised new objections over the U.S. approval of a possible sale of 20 F-16 fighter jets to the Philippines, something that did not surprise a security expert.
02:45The mentality of the Chinese is that they think we are being used by the Americans.
02:51But we always say that we have our own national interests and we are a sovereign country, we are independent.
02:59I hope China does not underestimate us.
03:02In response to China's opposition, the Philippine government countered.
03:06It is not intended for any nation. It is merely part of the AFP modernization program.
03:14The F-16 is the most advanced fourth-generation fighter in the world.
03:19And if this sale pushes through, it will be a significant upgrade to our current arsenal.
03:25Patrick de Azuz, from the National TV, for a new and better Philippines.
