00:00The country announced that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is in charge of the entry of the Russian submarine in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines.
00:09Even the Philippine Navy was alarmed when the Russian submarine was discovered.
00:15Even so, the Philippines responded quickly to the Russian submarine that left the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines.
00:24This is what Patrick de Jesus wrote.
00:28President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is in charge of the entry of the Russian submarine in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines.
00:37It was discovered by a Russian submarine UFA-490 on November 28 in the West Philippine Sea,
00:4580 nautical miles from the northern part of Cape Calavite in Occidental Mindoro.
00:50The President ordered it to the military.
00:54That's very concerning. Any intrusion into the West Philippine Sea of our AEC or our base lines is very worrisome.
01:02According to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine Navy's ship BRPO Serizal immediately escorted the Russian submarine.
01:10The Navy also deployed aircraft to monitor the movement of the submarine.
01:15According to the AFP, the Russian submarine's crew responded to the radio communication
01:20when it arrived in Malaysia after the military exercise with the Royal Malaysian Navy.
01:26They are just waiting for the right time before continuing their voyage back to their naval base in Vladivostok, Russia.
01:35We were surprised that a Russian submarine was detected.
01:39It's not common for a submarine to pass by us.
01:42The good thing is that we were able to respond to our aircraft and ships.
01:47There was no illegal activity monitored by the Russian submarine that was submerged when it passed through the West Philippine Sea.
01:55In the same manner, when our ships, for example, went to other countries and passed through the Exclusive Economic Zone of other countries,
02:03they are also given the right of freedom of navigation and innocent passage.
02:09As long as they are not doing anything wrong or violating the laws of that country.
02:14For a maritime law expert, the passage of a Russian submarine is not considered a threat.
02:20It cannot be a threat because it's a submarine on the surface. That's not a threat.
02:24Since it's on the surface, it's actually announcing itself.
02:27Patrick Deesus for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
