00:00Various government agencies have also imposed measures to ensure the safety of the Filipinos
00:06when the so-called The Big One hit the country.
00:10Kenneth Paciente of BTV is back.
00:15The government is now twice as ready to prepare for the possible hit of the The Big One in the Philippines.
00:22The powerful earthquake has even shaken Myanmar and Thailand.
00:27The Big One is the possible hit of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake or even stronger.
00:33The Department of Public Works and Highways said that more than 20,000 structures have been assessed.
00:39They are focused on retrofitting, especially in Metro Manila, to ensure it is ready for the hit of The Big One.
00:47As of today, we have assessed more than 21,000 public buildings.
00:53We will recommend retrofitting for many of these.
00:58But we have already finished retrofitting.
01:02Retrofitting means to raise the standards for international earthquake standards.
01:09The DPWH is also providing technical assistance to the Transportation Department
01:14to ensure the structural integrity of railway transits.
01:18We need to consult the DOTR. They are in charge of the MRT and LRT.
01:25But if they ask us for help to help their workers
01:30and assess the structural integrity of the infrastructure, including ports and airports,
01:37we are ready to help.
01:39They have their own technical team.
01:42Sometimes, they ask us for help, especially in the review of the plans and assessment of their infrastructure.
01:50The agency's 2,000 equipment is also distributed.
01:54They also gained their other quick response assets as part of their contingency plan.
02:00The DOST and PHEVOCS also issued the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill
02:06to prepare Filipinos for the possible hit of The Big One.
02:10The OCD also gave a warning that the preparation for docking, cover, and hold is not yet complete.
02:15Houses and buildings must be strong to ensure the safety of everyone.
02:20It starts with the local government unit that provides the building permit.
02:24We will just build it.
02:25It should follow the strict provisions of the building code.
02:30It should be strong enough to withstand any magnitude of earthquake, up to 8.5 magnitude.
02:38So, we will just build it.
02:40That's what the Office of the President asked for.
02:43Our LGUs are primarily responsible for that.
02:47We will help ensure that they give the construction permits correctly.
02:53And the occupancy permits should also be correct, meaning that the plan was made.
02:59Because the plan is different from the implementation.
03:01President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. also urged all agencies to have a long-term solution
03:07in preparing for The Big One.
03:09From PPV Manila, Kenneth Paciente, Balitang Pambansang.
