00:00I felt like it was something that I felt was so important and sort of humbling in a way
00:09that there's just this costume that I was wearing and the fact that it stood for something
00:14so much greater than a television show was really a beautiful thing.
00:23I do think that women should have the right to do what they want with their bodies.
00:51With The Handmaid's Tale, I remember there was definitely this sense of, oh, this is
00:58something that we really need to talk about.
00:59This is something we really need to declare.
01:01We need to make sure that people know that we are feminists and that's what we stand
01:06for and it's important to talk about because apparently not everyone agrees.
01:11It's supposed to be fiction, it was written 20 years ago, it was supposed to be a fiction
01:23book and everyday it feels closer to our reality because of Trump and the way that he's peeling
01:28back the rights of women and our rights to choose what we want to do with our own bodies.
01:41I'm not a politician.
01:52I don't have speeches written for me.
01:55That's not what I do, but I also think that an institution, a place like Planned Parenthood
02:00offers so much, so much healthcare to women who can't afford it, so much advice and consultation
02:07and people can't always afford to get the right medicine and to get the right examinations
02:16and all of that and Planned Parenthood is one of the places that you can go to for that
02:20and there's not a lot of them.
02:36There's this really interesting analogy for a woman saying something and not being believed
02:43or her voice not being heard or her being silenced.
02:47For us what was most important was that it was grounded in reality and that it was a
02:51drama more than anything else.
02:53We wanted it to be really scary, but it's all real.
02:55There's not really any science fiction in it, it's a real thing.
02:58So for us it was really important to make it real and truthful and a real man and a
03:03real woman and a real relationship.
