00:00Is Congress finally going to do anything meaningful about gun violence?
00:08When will enough be enough?
00:21After I got appointed, I went down to Brooklyn to meet with families
00:26who had suffered from gun violence in their communities.
00:29And you immediately experience the feeling that I couldn't have been more wrong.
00:35We have to protect our dreamers, and we need to pass the DREAM Act.
01:02I was callous to the suffering of families who want to be with their loved ones.
01:06I recognize, as we all do, that immigration and diversity is our strength as a country.
01:10And so looking back, I just, I really regretted that I didn't look beyond my district
01:15and talk about why this is an important part of the United States story.
01:32She's living in a different context, and she did it for different reasons.
01:43But I just disagree with her.
01:51When you create green jobs all across America, you're doing two things.
01:55You're investing not only in the new technologies of wind and solar and biofuels
02:00and geothermal and hydropower, but you're also investing in building our middle class.
02:05I, for one, know for a fact that what's good for our environment
02:09can be good for business when we act responsibly.
02:13The reason why this is so important, Mr. President,
02:16is because one-third of convicted sexual offenders within the military are still retained.
02:21They are still serving. So obviously we must do better.
02:25We all know that our military has a sexual assault problem.
02:29Every secretary of defense for more than two decades has acknowledged this.
02:34Yet the military continues to fail at solving this very simple problem.
02:39We lost thousands of heroes on 9-11, and we're still losing heroes like James today.
02:45But for tens of thousands of others, now is the time to act.
02:49So I want to say this very loud and clear to every senator, every member of this House.
02:54We must not force our 9-11 heroes to go through this same exhausting process again.
03:01We have to fully fund the September 11th Victims' Compensation Fund and make it permanent.
03:06And we must do it now.
