00:00Acknowledging the Department of Education, especially for kids with disabilities, are
00:13able to get special education.
00:15Things like this will take and sustain is a shorthand for the right's entire political
00:22agenda and a certain ugly kind of politics.
00:27That is lying to and screwing over working and middle class Americans so that billionaires
00:34can steal from our livelihood to pay for their tax cuts and bailouts for their crypto-billionaire
00:41friends.
00:45But you know, there's a word for this kind of thing.
00:48Corruption.
00:51And seeing all of this stack up is enough to make even the best of us want to give in
00:59to despair.
01:00I get it.
01:02And trust me, I really understand.
01:05But understand that that is by design.
01:10They want us to give up.
01:13And it is easy to give in to despair.
01:16And I can tell you, for a while there, in the years that I spent waitressing and wiping
01:23down tables and never being able to get ahead, I did give up.
01:29I tried.
01:30I tried to stop caring, keep my head down, work my shifts, and accept that this is just
01:37how things are.
01:39But that's no way to live, Colorado.
01:43It's no way to live.
01:45And we do not have to live like this.
01:48In fact, we cannot live like this.
01:55I was born to a working-class family.
01:57My mom cleaned houses.
01:59My dad started a small business.
02:01They just tried to make a better life for my brother and I.
02:04And for a while it felt like our American dream was almost coming true.
02:10Both my parents were born in poverty.
02:12They were able to work, to put food on the table.
02:15And then when I was a teenager, my dad was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer.
02:21And by the time I was 18, 19 years old, he was dead.
02:27And overnight, my mom became a single mom.
02:30She had to suddenly provide for my brother and I.
02:34And this is what so many of us experience.
02:39We're all just one accident or one moment away from feeling like our whole rug is pulled
02:44out from under us.
02:46And we don't have to live like this.
