00:00I don't know about you, but I thought it was nice to have a taste of some spring sunshine
00:05on Thursday. Most of the UK enjoyed some warmth from the sun, but it's not going to last.
00:11We've got low pressure moving closer. It's because of that low that we've seen southerly
00:15winds bring higher temperatures on Thursday. But as we go through the night, those ice
00:20bars will tighten, the winds will pick up and the first signs of a change will appear
00:24into the south-west with cloudier skies and by midnight some showery rain into Cornwall.
00:30That's going to spread into parts of Pembrokeshire perhaps overnight and then eventually Northern
00:35Ireland and there's always the chance of a few showers turning up into other parts of
00:40the south-west. Elsewhere, a lot more cloud and more of a breeze, so less frosty compared
00:45with the recent mornings. Certainly a milder start for most, but still the potential for
00:49a touch of frost in sheltered parts of northern Scotland for example, northern England if
00:54we get some cloud breaks. A chilly start in the far north end, but otherwise for many
00:58it's a cloudy and mild start to the day and increasingly unsettled in the west. We've
01:03got these spells of rain or showers moving up across south-west England, Wales, Northern
01:07Ireland and western Scotland through the day. One or two showers further east as well, but
01:10actually it's towards the east where it's going to mostly stay dry and bright, albeit
01:14with more cloud in the sky compared with recent days. Still warm, still the mid to high teens,
01:20possible 20 Celsius if we get enough sunshine and the wind eases off, but it will be a blustery
01:26day compared with recent days. That wind's strongest over parts of Scotland, particularly
01:31towards the north-east of Scotland overnight and that's when it really turns much more
01:34unsettled, much more widely. These spells of rain that are confined to the west through
01:38Friday move their way eastwards and there'll be some heavy and persistent downpours as
01:43well. That means of course it's going to be a mild start to Saturday, double figures for
01:48many of us, but it is going to be a wet start. Now, the wettest weather on Saturday, at least
01:52the most persistent rain will be across Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland. There'll also
01:57be spells of rain moving through central parts of England into the north of England. Further
02:01south, brighter skies, but also slow-moving heavy downpours. These could be quite nasty
02:07and they could last for some time if you're caught in one. So, those will be hit and miss.
02:11In between the showers, still some warmth, 15, 16 Celsius, but nowhere near as warm as
02:16it's been on Thursday and feeling decidedly cool there for western Scotland and Northern
02:22Ireland under the persistent rain. Then into Sunday, well, the most unsettled weather starts
02:29to move eastwards. Still a cloudy day with rain or showers, but gradually turning a little
02:34more settled once again into the start of next week, particularly in the south.
