00:00Analysts say Chinese voters in Sabah remain largely aligned with national parties such
00:06as DAP, despite the rising prominence of the Sabah First narrative.
00:11University Malaysia Sabah's Lee Kwok Tiong said Sabahan Chinese are primarily concentrated
00:16in urban areas such as Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan, where DAP secured decisive wins in the last
00:22state election.
00:24Last Thursday, it was reported that Parti Solidariti Tanah Ayakku intends to contest
00:29several Chinese majority seats in Sabah's coming state election.
00:33Star Deputy President Kenny Chua claimed that the party, traditionally strong among Sabah's
00:38indigenous communities, is now attracting more members from the Chinese community.
00:43Similarly, Singapore Institute of International Affairs Senior Fellow Oe Sun said the Sabah
00:49First narrative has not significantly influenced Chinese voters.
00:53It likens the political identification of Sabah Chinese to that of peninsular-based
00:57Chinese who favour national-level parties and a vision of Malaysia for all Malaysians.
01:03Oe also described DAP as the overwhelmingly premier choice for Sabah Chinese voters, saying
01:08that no other Chinese-based party has successfully positioned itself as a viable alternative.
