00:00Jim Bulger has had many colts go through his hands who have gone on to be influential stallions
00:07once they have retired to stud. The latest colt to have gone through his school and joined
00:11the stallion ranks is Mac Sweeney, a classic winner who was also a Group 1 winning 2-year-old.
00:16Mac Sweeney has taken up residence at the Irish National Stud where we paid him a visit.
00:22Yeah we're delighted to welcome Mac Sweeney to the roster for 2024. A son of new approach
00:27who I believe is a very undervalued stallion. What he did with his first crop of runners
00:32to get 3-year-old Ascot winning 2-year-olds would probably never be matched and for whatever
00:36reason he didn't get the credit he deserved at stud. We're delighted to send Mac Sweeney
00:41like new approach, he's a Group 1 winning 2-year-old, he's a classic winning 3-year-old
00:45and we're looking forward to showcasing him to breeders in the coming weeks. Jim he's
00:50bred some fantastic horses down through the years, bred, owned and trained some fantastic
00:54horses down through the years. Mac Sweeney and Poetic Flair, he had two of them that
00:59year, one won the Irish guineas and the other won the English guineas. Obviously they clashed
01:05on the Curragh for the 2000 guineas and it was a ding dong battle up the home straight
01:08but thankfully Mac Sweeney came out on top that day. Jim's a brilliant trainer and the
01:14list of good horses that he's had through his hands down through the years is endless
01:18and we're delighted that he's staying in for a proportion of the horse and he's going to
01:21send him some very nice mares hopefully. He asked us if we'd kindly join him in partnership
01:25with the horse and after looking at the horse he's a lovely physical, he's got a great walk,
01:30great temperament about him, good loose mover and he's got plenty of size and substance
01:35to him so after looking at the horse it was an easy decision to make to go into partnership
01:39with Mr Bulger. It's very important in the first, but the second and the third year as
01:43well with the stallions we have on the roster here, we like to syndicate them out to the
01:47breeders of Ireland. Breeders like to own equity in a horse and that's what we like
01:52to offer them here with our stallions and we're going to be selling shares in Mac Sweeney
01:56and hopefully we can get a couple of them sold to the right people in the coming weeks.
02:00He won a Curragh Maiden in July and he backed it up by winning the Fraturity Stakes over
02:04seven furlings in the Curragh at two in August. He then went on to win the Verton Fraturity
02:08Trophy which turned out to be a good trial for the guineas in the last couple of years
02:12but this guy didn't win the English guineas but he won the Irish guineas beating the English
02:16guineas winner. There was two or three group one winners directly in behind so the formula
02:20race stacks up very well. He was a precocious horse but he also trained on a tree as well.
02:26He's been at the farm for the last two or three weeks but a very easy horse to deal
02:29with, nothing seems to faze him. He's got great bone, good hip and shoulder to him and
02:35he's a very good loose mover so we think that when the breeders come and see him he'll be
02:40one that they take a liking to for sure. At a fee of 8,000 euro for a Jew group one winner
02:45we feel we've priced him pretty fair.
