00:00Journeyman Stud welcomed two exciting new stallions this year, Uncle Chuck, a half-brother
00:08to McClain's music by Uncle Mo, and Chance It, a grade one placed winner of more than
00:15half a million dollars.
00:17How will the Florida market receive them?
00:19We sat down with Brent Fernand of Journeyman Stud to find out.
00:24When the opportunity arose to get Uncle Chuck, I looked his pedigree up and he had this tremendous
00:31pedigree of son of Uncle Mo and a half-brother to successful stallion and McClain's music.
00:37But more importantly, he was a top, top racehorse that was brilliant in the several few starts
00:45he was able to make.
00:49That's the trifecta.
00:51By a world-class champion sire, out of a spectacular broodmare, and a stone racehorse.
01:01In his first start, he dominated a field of maidens, winning by seven lengths and it could
01:07have been 70 lengths.
01:09Then of course he followed that up with a four-length victory over a thousand words
01:14and a grade three stake running a mile and eighth in his second start.
01:18I don't think there was any distance limitations to this horse at all.
01:22And frankly, I question if there was any limitation brilliance.
01:28Uncle Chuck physically is such an impressive horse.
01:32He's got plenty of bone.
01:34He's a big horse, probably 16.3 and he's just as correct as he can be.
01:40He's really an entire package.
01:43Getting Tailor Made involved has always been fortunate for us.
01:46I went and looked at Uncle Chuck on my own and the next day I got a call from Frank Taylor
01:52from Tailor Made.
01:54And Frank says, I've just been out here to look at this horse.
01:57Would you be interested in standing him down in Ocala?
01:59And I said, well, yeah, I love the horse.
02:01I said, let's go ahead and get it done.
02:04We're off to a great start with Uncle Chuck.
02:06He's probably got 60 mares on his book right now.
02:10Everybody that I talked to indicated it saved me a season.
02:14The ones that haven't already contacted us, I'll bring a group of our best mares to him
02:20because I got a lot of confidence in this horse.
02:23Chance has great local appeal here in Ocala.
02:28He was Florida's horse.
02:30He went to Miami at Gulfstream Park.
02:33He dominated Florida sire stakes races, winning the 400,000 mile and a 16th in reality stakes
02:39at the end of his two-year-old year and then came back and win the Mucho Macho Man stakes
02:44in his first start at three.
02:46He was destined to go on and do some really great things that year, in my opinion,
02:50but then he injured himself.
02:52He came back the next year, placed in grade one sprint stakes.
02:56He was a horse that could run from six, could beat good horses from six furlongs all the way
03:02to a mile and an eighth.
03:04Chance's ownership group is led by Mary Lightner with advice from her father, Mike.
03:11We've been friends with them for 30 years.
03:15The opportunity to do a stallion with them was one that we really embraced.
03:22Chance is one of those horses that had a lot of talent as a two-year-old.
03:27Florida has been, our entire industry down here has been developed through two-year-old racing.
03:34I think Chance has that kind of physicality to him that's going to get you early horses
03:40that can really run.
03:42I'm excited to have the opportunity to stand him.
