00:00David, a tough game, I love one in which the resilience of the side shone through at the
00:28end.
00:29A tough game, very close, probably a draw, the right result in the end. We were probably
00:36better in the first half without doing enough, one or two chances. I thought West Ham had
00:41a couple of counter-attacks, were a threat. The second half, West Ham were better, certainly
00:46for the first 20, 30 minutes or so, whatever it was. And then I think once they scored,
00:50we started to come back into the game, maybe a bit unlucky not to get a winner right at
00:55the death.
00:56Were you disappointed at the end, that could have been three points?
01:01Disappointed because we're trying to take three points, but that just tells you where
01:05the expectation is now. West Ham have got a terrific team, I know I spent most of the
01:09money there. We bought a lot of really, really good players. They've got super ability, Bowne
01:20and Kudos, terrific players, Paqueta, Suchek as you see. All those players are really good
01:26players, so we've got no divine right to think that we can come here and win.
01:30How much of a difference did it make to you that you've been able to look to the bench
01:33and have technology to actually see a full road to Rossini? So many players are coming
01:37back now, I thought those three changes did actually help change the game in those final minutes?
01:41Yeah, it did. I thought that we were able to do something to try and change the game.
01:45I thought the subs did change the game for us a little bit. Tim and the two forwards
01:49gave us something else, or another impetus maybe just at the end to get something.
01:55We've not really had it, but we've been doing a decent job without having too many
02:00coming off the bench. We've had to find a way of getting results. I think today we've
02:06found a way of getting a result as well. Great resilience with the players, stuck at it,
02:10never gave up. We had a penalty denied in the first half, which whether it was or not
02:15I don't know, but we'd won against Manchester United a couple of weeks ago, which after
02:20that looked it was probably overturned. I've not seen the one today, so I can't really
02:26comment on it.
02:28With the international break coming up now, what's the plan? What's your ambition for
02:31the next two weeks?
02:32Yeah, just get ourselves ready for the next game. We've got no ambition to do anything
02:38weird and wonderful. We'll give them some time off, we'll train them. We don't play
02:43for the best part of 18 days now. I think the players have done really well here. I
02:49think the players and the way they've gone about it since me coming in, they've done
02:53a brilliant job.
02:56Hi David, just a word on Idris' performance. Fasting, plentiful nighting, was that crucial
03:03for you?
03:04Absolutely. I actually mentioned it before the game. West Ham have the same, they all
03:09have kudos, the same, and one or two other boys who are all fasting. It's difficult for
03:14those lads at the moment, but you wouldn't know it really because Idris was terrific
03:20for us today. Well done to them for following their faith.
03:28It's not a superhuman effort, really, because they're at the highest level of their performance.
03:32Yeah, they are. I think the players nowadays who have been playing Idris have been 35,
03:39he's obviously done this for a long time so he probably knows how to manage himself and
03:43how to do things. But his performances have been very good.
03:51David, how impressed have you been with Drake O'Brien? It seems like he's starting to grow
03:54into an attacker right now as well.
03:57Well, he's beginning to get a couple of goals. I'm mourning at Tarky and Jared, they started
04:03getting more goals when centre-halves, but with our deliveries from set-pieces today
04:07there was no chance they could score from them today, they were so poor. But I have
04:13to say that I'm pleased for Big Jake, he's coming on, improving. He's a young centre-back
04:22making his way a little bit as a false right back in some ways. But he's doing a good job
04:29and I'm pleased he got the goal. He's capable of it and it was an important goal for us.
04:35How much work have you and your coaching staff had to do with him on the attacking side,
04:39specifically, of the game?
04:40Yeah, well, the way we've played him, we've tried to play him a little bit like a hybrid,
04:44I use the word a little bit. I thought the way West Ham played today meant that he had
04:49to go and join in and actually play much higher up the pitch and nearly be an attacking full-back
04:55today. And as we say, we're talking about a young centre-back and it actually hindered
05:00the way we played a little bit in the first half. I didn't think we could really damage
05:05West Ham enough and we needed to be a bit better. But we got there in the end and it's
05:09through, we got there, we got a point in the end.
05:12David, it looked like you had some nice moments on the pitch with the West Ham players afterwards
05:17as well and the fans were applauding. I just wonder what did that mean to you to get that
05:21reception from the home?
05:23Yeah, well, I've got to say the first thing was the players, I've had so many moments
05:29with them over the years. Obviously, the biggest thing was winning in Europe. But I think you
05:34build bonds. I brought the majority of them in. Thomas scores again today here, which
05:39was a blow to me. But it's no surprise. You see the form of Bo and what Kudus can do and
05:46Paqueta. They're all incredibly talented players. Great to see James Ward-Prowse back as well
05:52because of what he can do. But I also think that the supporters, the West Ham supporters
05:57have been really, really good to me over the years. Many times we've been in Europe where
06:03they were fantastic. I wanted to show my respect to them because I think they've been very
06:09good to me. They gave me a great send-off when I left West Ham. So they deserve to be
06:15acknowledged.
06:17Yusuf Timuti as well. It's obviously been a frustrating time for him but he looked quite
06:21lively when he came on. I just wonder what do you make of his potential?
06:25I'm still getting to know him and the truth is that we weren't sure how long we would
06:31play Yusuf or Brogia. But I knew it couldn't be too long because of their levels. But I
06:37thought it was needed at the end. But I thought Yusuf got two great strikes off. I think both
06:41were on target, which was good. Nice and clean. So we're beginning to see a bit of them but
06:47the truth is I've not really had a chance. To be fair, I don't think many Evertonians
06:51will have either because he's been injured for just about the whole season. Same with
06:55Brogia. So we're all just really getting to see them for the first time.
06:59Last one from Wales.
07:02Do you think you'll get a bounce game for Leinster and Colman?
07:06Yeah, we might do. There's a few boys. They'll train. The boys who have been off injured
07:11will be training quite a bit during the week. The other boys will get a bit more time off.
07:14But we might wait until next week as well before we have a bounce game and do something
07:18like that for some of the lads.
07:21Cheers.
