00:00In other concerns, election-related violations are on the spread in cyberspace.

00:05Hence, the PNP is keeping close tabs on smear campaign cases that have obtained in four regions in the country in particular.

00:13Three have been charged thus far, while one is still under probe, as our Ryan Lezigas narrates in this report.

00:21The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group will further intensify cyber patrolling against election-related incidents online.

00:29Two months before the election, the PNP-ACG has recorded seven incidents related to this matter.

00:35According to PNP-ACG spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Walen May Arancilio, the victims include two mayors, a board member, and a barangay captain from Regions 1, 6, 11, and 13.

00:47There is defamatory content that is posted online about them and it will cause damage to their reputation.

00:55It will really affect the upcoming election.

00:59There are also people who are being threatened, including their families.

01:03They will also cause damage or destruction to their properties.

01:09Three of the suspects have been charged while one remains under investigation.

01:13The suspects will face charges for violating the Anti-Cybercrime Law.

01:17The accounts that they used, we applied for cyber warrants in court so that we can know the real identity of these people.

01:27And we can prove that they are the ones who posted defamatory contents.

01:33Arancilio also mentioned how the ACG has monitored three more instances of fake news being spread online.

01:40We saw online that there are many people posting fake news, unverified information.

01:47That is why we are warning the public not to believe in unverified information.

01:55This could damage the image or reputation of a person.

02:03We will also learn to verify since the election is near.

02:08The PNP-ACG stressed the importance of monitoring the spread of fake news,

02:12especially since even high-ranking government officials have been exploited by criminals using these models.

02:18The PNP-ACG reminds those who spread false information and online defamation that they could face legal charges.

02:26The ACG also expects a rise in similar cases as the election draws nearer.
