00:00Oplan Tokhang of the Duterte-Bato Dela Rosa all-out war versus illegal drugs
00:04left the reputation and image of the Philippine National Police in its haters.
00:09Understandably so, the PNP Oplan Katok resurrects bad memories of police abuse and impunity even
00:16through the Police Fire and Renewal Program is well within the balance of the law and nowhere
00:20near the conduct of operations of Tokhang. Our Ryan Sigis lets us in in the revitalized
00:26Oplan Katok scheme.
00:45Legal and effective campaign against loose firearms, the revitalized Oplan Katok. This
00:50was emphasized by the Philippine National Police despite continuing opposition
00:54and the commission on elections called to halt it. According to PNP chief,
00:58Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil, there is no intimidation involved in their campaign
01:02as police personnel simply personally remind identified firearm owners of their obligations.
01:08This includes the renewal of their licenses to own and possess firearms or encouraging gun owners
01:14to surrender their firearms to the PNP for safekeeping if their licenses still need to
01:19be renewed. The PNP chief stressed that Oplan Katok is a regularly conducted program based on
01:24Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
01:49The PNP also emphasized their priority is public safety and with no political entity
02:01favored or preferred. Marbil also described concerns that Oplan Katok may be used for
02:05malicious purposes during the election period as a speculative. Meanwhile, Metro Manila's crime
02:11rate continues to decline according to PNP data. Index crimes which include crimes against person
02:17and property dropped by 19.61 percent in January. A total of 451 crime incidents was recorded in the
02:25first month of 2025, significantly lower than the 561 incidents in the same period in 2024.
02:32Crimes such as rape, physical injuries, homicide, murder and theft also saw a notable decline.
02:39The NCRPO asserted this decline reflects the PNP's relentless efforts to ensure public safety.
02:46From PTV Manila, Ryan Lisigas, Balitang Pambansang.
