00:00Fox News host Maria Bartiromo through a complete and total tantrum when they interviewed a car
00:06dealer who said, oh, no, no, Trump's tariffs are going to be terrible for our industry. This is
00:13really good stuff. I it's a couple of minutes long. It's worth setting up and really watching
00:19the whole thing. They've got, you know, reporter on the street at a car dealership talking to
00:24car dealer guy. And the guy starts to explain, you know, if you add what these tariffs are going
00:31to add to the cost of these vehicles, to the retail price of the vehicles, no one's going to
00:37buy these vehicles. It's just they're going to be too expensive. It's going to exceed their market
00:42value and their perceived utility. Maria Bartiromo doesn't like it. Stick with it. When they go back
00:47to her, they go. They don't have these cars in Europe and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:50There's a reason why. OK, check this out. It is a complete and total meltdown from exactly who
00:56you would expect it to come for Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge Ram. Yeah. Impact. Dramatic, dramatic. I
01:05sold order for a customer. Eighty thousand dollar truck. It's a hundred thousand dollars now. So
01:10he's not going to buy the truck. It's going to sit on my lot. And, you know, the higher interest
01:15rates we're paying right now for floor plan and nobody's going to buy the truck because
01:19it just had a twenty thousand dollar price increase. Kelly Blue Book will put the number
01:24up. They say the average vehicle will go up by about three thousand dollars. Does it sound right
01:28to you? No, no, no. We don't have the broad. We don't have the linear, the tight strokes. But
01:36to me, it's a twenty five percent in tariff. So that affects our parts that come from over
01:43these countries and a whole bunch of our cars. And you've been basing your business model on
01:51free trade, basically. This is what the American Automakers Policy Council says, Maria,
01:57in response to this. They say our American automakers invested billions in the U.S.
02:01to meet the requirements of the current free trade agreement. They shouldn't have their
02:05competitiveness undermined by tariffs that will raise the cost of building vehicles in the U.S.
02:10and stymie investment in the American workforce while competitors from the outside
02:14of North America benefit. The German no tariff on the German cars. No, no. They're Japanese.
02:20They're going to be OK. But but think about it. We built our business around that. The OEMs built
02:26their business around that. And now it changes on a dime. And we can't build a four billion
02:32dollar plant overnight in the United States. So I think building in the United States is great.
02:39I think enhancing the participation from the other countries on the other things. But we this
02:46is pretty radical. I hear you. So the diagnosis is pretty dire. Now let's go to Maria. There you go,
02:53Maria, where the rubber meets the road here. All right. Great. Yeah. Pennsylvania.
02:59Exactly. Jeff, thank you. Thank you so much. Jeff Locke at the Dodge Ram plant. I mean,
03:06uh, not plant. It's not a plant. Chris, they're selling cars. Thank you. Dealership. But you know
03:12what? Let me let me ask you this, OK? Yes. How many Dodge Rams do you see driving around Europe?
03:18OK. How many Dodge Rams do you see driving around India? I mean, not many. I bet. Why?
03:25Because they don't buy our cars. And that's what President Trump is trying to change.
03:29Maybe Dodge should start building them here. The reason that you don't see Dodge Rams,
03:37OK, in Belgium and in Paris is because these stupid monster trucks don't fit on their roads
03:46because they don't subsidize gasoline the way we do, meaning that what they pay for gas is closer
03:53to the real total cost of a gallon, meaning it would be nuts to have a Dodge Ram monster truck.
04:00And it has nothing to do with what Maria Bartiromo wants. You believe to believe that it is about
04:07and tariffs are sure as hell not going to fix it. This is you know, it I've said this before.
04:14I don't know that Maria Bartiromo is this dumb because she was a really good financial reporter
04:20back in the CNBC days when I was in high school and I was starting to get a little bit involved in
04:24the stock market and understanding how some of these things work. She did excellent interviews
04:29with CEOs, held them to account, reported from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, first
04:33woman to do so. All these different things. I struggle to believe she could be this dumb.
04:39And so that makes me think she's playing a character for Fox News and to placate Trump,
04:43which is arguably in some way even worse.
