00:00At 4.30 a.m., a handful of fishing crews throw lines on the eighth day of bluefin harpoon
00:13season.
00:14Smasher over there.
00:15Smasher.
00:16See him?
00:17Their destination?
00:18The historic fishing grounds off the coast of Cape Cod.
00:22There they are, Kev.
00:24Push them whitewater.
00:25Here we go.
00:27The amazing quarter-ton bluefin tuna, among the fastest fish in the ocean, and the most
00:34valuable.
00:35Beautiful, quintessential diamond.
00:38It's a method of hunting that traces back to the dawn of mankind.
00:42Get your pole pointing straight.
00:44But it takes a skilled captain to lead a crew to land a fish the size of a refrigerator.
00:50He's a real one.
00:53Nice job.
00:54Get him, buddy.
00:55And for Captain Joe Dion, on the fishing vessel Red Rum.
00:59You okay?
01:00Yeah, I'm fine.
01:01The stakes this season are higher than ever.
01:05This might be his last summer he could fish, you know?
01:08Last summer of bucking, maybe.
01:10Another 10K day would be huge for my family.
01:25Ready to go today, Tom?
01:27Always ready.
01:28I'm always ready.
01:30I can't wait.
01:31I hope we get one today.
01:32I hope we're the first to get them.
01:34Beautiful morning.
01:35It's getting warm out.
01:36Good day to fish.
01:38Right, Captain?
01:39Let's hope so.
01:42Minor preparation before we get underway here?
01:45Oh, yeah.
01:46If this stuff's not right, we're going to lose the fish.
01:48It has to be perfect.
01:50Harpoon fishing is a very competitive environment.
01:54All right.
01:55Let's go.
01:56And I will be perfectly honest.
01:58When I see somebody else get a fish, I'm envious.
02:01Todd, make sure the zapper's on and ready to go, please.
02:04That's why me and my crew have to stay dialed in and focused
02:07on our goal of catching every trip and coming out on top.
02:10She's hot.
02:12Well, I hope we kill them all today.
02:15All ready.
02:16Let's throw them.
02:17100 feet away, Captain Nico prepares Easy Does It
02:20for the day's hunt.
02:22Ready?
02:23Ready, Kev?
02:24Oh, yeah.
02:25All right.
02:26On three.
02:27One, two, three.
02:30We finally got our first fish of the season last week,
02:33and I think it helped earn me some trust from the crew.
02:36You good?
02:37Yeah, I got it.
02:38But I still feel like I need to earn my place
02:40as their new leader.
02:41And without my dad around, it's up to me
02:43to bring the team together.
02:45Up and down.
02:47OK.
02:49Pull in the old one.
02:50Coil it up.
02:5230 miles north in Green Harbor, Red Rum's Captain Joe
02:56gets ready to welcome two young crew members.
03:00Put a brand new cable on.
03:02That's how optimistic we are today.
03:04We're getting the boat ready to take my son, Luke,
03:07and Nate's son, Ethan, out fishing with us.
03:10See, I'm optimistic.
03:11I put a new cable on.
03:13Harpooning, you leave early in the morning,
03:15and you come home late at night.
03:17So you miss your family.
03:18You don't get to see your kids a lot.
03:19So today, Luke's going to be part of the Red Rum crew.
03:22Blue sky, diminishing wind.
03:25Today, you know, setting up to be another good day.
03:28So you just got to find them.
03:30We'll find them.
03:3240 miles north aboard the Pine Box,
03:35Captain Dylan and his son Emmett prepare
03:37the harpoons for a pivotal day.
03:39You're going to throw this stuff?
03:40Yeah, this is what I'm throwing, bro.
03:41Laser show.
03:42You won.
03:43Laser show.
03:44Missiles.
03:46Emmett might throw today.
03:48This would be a first for him.
03:50But that's only out of my protective nature.
03:52Normally, most kids his age would have thrown.
03:54I'll pick the right bunch before I let him go out.
03:56It'll be, hopefully, a nice, easy shot.
03:58But famous last words, I guess.
04:02You just put a little bit on there.
04:04I'm putting a little petroleum jelly on the lily,
04:06because when you toss them, if they don't come out,
04:10it decreases the effectiveness of the shocker.
04:13More electricity will go through the pole than just the fish.
04:16I want this to be able to come on and off very easily.
04:19I think, as far as Emmett goes,
04:21I'd like to see him take over throwing full-time, really,
04:24because my shoulders are getting old.
04:26I think he would make a great harpooner,
04:29and I'd like to see him definitely
04:31take the pressure off me, because, you know,
04:33we're not doing too well with me throwing.
04:35All right, we ready?
04:36There we go.
04:42I think it's going to be a good day.
04:46Heading into week two,
04:48a pair of captains surpass the $10,000 mark.
04:51Young gun Joe Dion on the Red Rum takes the top spot,
04:55with fleet veteran Tyler McAllister on the Cynthia C2
04:59close on his heels.
05:01The biggest fish of the season
05:03goes to strongman Nico on the Easy Does It,
05:06while Captain Dylan on the Pine Box
05:08shows his disadvantage,
05:10fishing without a spotter plane.
05:16♪♪♪♪
05:25You feeling dangerous today, Nico?
05:27I'm always dangerous.
05:29I'm dangerous, too.
05:31Yeah, dangerous with a sandwich on a cooler.
05:34Ha, ha, ha.
05:36We are three miles east of Sandwich Harbor,
05:40right in Cape Cod Bay, very close to home.
05:44Thomas, grab me one more warp.
05:46I'll rig this deep shot pole up.
05:48All right.
05:49Just want to be ready, you know?
05:50Yep.
05:51Ready for action.
05:53So we are rigging a few extra poles
05:56because we want to be prepared.
05:58Where'd you learn how to rig harpoons?
06:00Where'd I learn how to rig harpoons?
06:02The old man taught me pretty much anything
06:04I know how to do on the water.
06:07Everyone on our vessel was taught how to fish by my father.
06:11Nurse Thomas.
06:13Dr. Shapralis.
06:15So as fishermen, we all know what we're doing.
06:18We learn from the best.
06:20But I need to show my crew that I can lead like my dad did,
06:24and I've never had to lead before.
06:27All set to go.
06:29If we can get another jumbo like we did last week,
06:32then it'll prove that we work well together,
06:34and the guys can trust me when I have the stick in my hands.
06:37I'd love to just get a dart and a fish, see them zap,
06:40and know that everything's working the way that we want it to.
06:52What do you think, Luke? Is today the day?
06:54Yes.
06:55It's fun to have the kids out. Today's the day.
06:58We're going refrigerator hunting. We want the big ones.
07:01You guys coming on the boat? You coming with us today?
07:04We got a couple good luck charms with us today.
07:07We good? We clear?
07:09Yeah, we're good, Joe.
07:11Today we got Nate's son, Ethan, and my son, Luke.
07:15Neither one of them have seen a fish harpooned yet,
07:18so hopefully we can make it happen for the kids.
07:22We're staying on the west side of the snow wagon,
07:25and we've had reports of really big fish, like 1,000 pounders.
07:29We really, really need this fish,
07:31at least one or two today for a paycheck.
07:40Push it out. Come up here. Come up here.
07:44Hold on right there.
07:47Now you're up there. Now you're harpooning.
07:56See that boat wake?
07:58Yeah.
07:59There?
08:00Luke, you always want to look. You scan.
08:03See how that water's black right there?
08:06It's just a different color in that one little spot.
08:09That's bait on the surface.
08:11That's a good sign. We're seeing some bait.
08:14I love passing my harpoon knowledge and fishing
08:17down to my 3 kids.
08:20Unfortunately, my other 2 kids, Peter and Maggie,
08:25can't come fishing with me much anymore.
08:29They were diagnosed with limb girdle muscular dystrophy.
08:33It's a muscle-wasting disease.
08:36So they both have a genetic mutation,
08:40and they'll be in a wheelchair by teenage years.
08:44There you go, Peter.
08:47You know, Peter came home from the hospital.
08:51He walked at a normal age.
08:53He came out on the boat as a little kid.
08:56He would climb the tower of a harpoon boat at the age of 6.
09:00And right around 8 years old is when we kind of noticed
09:04he wasn't keeping up with his friends.
09:07He couldn't climb the ladder of the boat very well anymore.
09:12Good shot.
09:14Finding out my kids were diagnosed with muscular dystrophy
09:18was definitely the worst day of my life.
09:21I pray you eat it.
09:24Soda flag.
09:26We're praying that we can find a cure
09:30We're going to have to do it ourselves.
09:32That's the harsh reality because it's so ultra-rare.
09:36So I think we can fund a clinical trial.
09:39And bluefin tunas can make you good money
09:42if you know how to stick them.
09:44So there's a lot of pressure on me to go up there and hit fish
09:48when the opportunity presents itself.
09:54Is that a marquis?
09:56I see a marquis.
09:59Where do you look? Are you still looking inside?
10:02Yeah, I'm 927 and 205 right now.
10:07I don't see him up yet, but just keep aiming for the bait.
10:11He should be starting to slow down and look for some fish pretty soon.
10:15Going to get on some fish, right?
10:17Let's go.
10:24I got one. I got one right here.
10:27Right on a ball of bait. Big...
10:31Nate, kill speed!
10:35Put it up to speed, Nate.
10:38I don't know if you can see the wake, but you ought to be able to.
10:41Pretty prominent.
10:43Yep, he's coming at us.
10:45Little ripple of water there. There's a tuna under there.
10:48Oh, my God.
10:52Luke and Ethan, stay right there no matter what.
10:56Don't move.
11:04Probably 12 boats.
11:12I'm definitely feeling the pressure.
11:15Six boats.
11:19Not just because we need a payday,
11:22but I want to show Luke and Ethan how it's done.
11:30Three boats.
11:34They're there, but they're underneath him.
11:36Come left a touch. See him?
11:38Nate, jump and come left.
11:40Oh, my God.
11:41Left a little.
11:46Hold it steady like that. 12 o'clock.
11:48Come back right a touch.
11:50There's a bait right there.
11:5212 o'clock.
11:53One boat left.
11:56All right. Is it aiming?
12:06Yes!
12:12Boom!
12:13Let's go!
12:15How do you like that, boys?
12:17Let's go!
12:19Nice shot.
12:20He's a real one!
12:23Refrigerator there.
12:25Or a couch, whatever you want to call it.
12:27Nice job. Nice job.
12:29Let's go! Nice job!
12:33No more celebrating. We got some more to kill.
12:36Let's find another one.
12:38Red rum got one.
12:40They did?
12:41Yeah.
12:42Didn't say where.
12:44Keep going.
12:47All right, down.
12:49Got to keep on going, because we got to go.
12:52We got to get more.
12:54That was sick.
12:56I want to get more.
12:58One's not enough.
13:00We got a lot of work to do.
13:04Excuse me, guys. Good job.
13:06How much pound is he?
13:07I don't know. He's big.
13:09That's a real one, baby.
13:11That's a real one, finally.
13:14109!
13:16109.
13:17He's fat and round, too.
13:19He looks like me.
13:21That's 5,000 bucks.
13:23This is a big fish. Hopefully we're going to get a big payday.
13:26Nice, round, butterball.
13:28Good luck, chum. Good luck, chums.
13:30Bring it in. Great job.
13:32I love spending quality time with my son.
13:35Hi.
13:36I quit fishing to spend more time with the family.
13:39But now that I'm harpooning again and on the water all day,
13:42I feel like I'm missing out.
13:44So I hope this means as much to Luke as it does to me.
13:56Come on, fish.
13:58Yeah, let's get a fish to get this pit out of my stomach.
14:04One's sticking out of the water right there.
14:06I see that.
14:08Basking shark?
14:09That's what I say.
14:10It's a big basker.
14:12Check his tail. Look at his tail.
14:14Look at his tail.
14:16See if there's any tunas on his tail.
14:18It's a monster.
14:19That's a good-sized basker right there.
14:21What a dead ocean.
14:23I haven't seen a bird yet.
14:25I got a big basking shark next to me here.
14:28It's up in front of me.
14:29A little bit of life.
14:31It's a perfect day for harpooning.
14:33The weather is great and wildlife is active.
14:36We've fallen behind Joe on fish count,
14:38but these are focused on landing a couple tuna.
14:45That's a fish. That's a fish.
14:4711 o'clock, huh?
14:49Yep, I got a bunch at my 11 o'clock going to the northeast.
14:53I'm pretty sure that's fish.
14:55Okay, they're right on the surface now.
14:57They're right up on top.
14:59Yeah, okay. I can see.
15:01Yeah, I got them.
15:03All right.
15:05There's about six or seven of them.
15:07They're going straight away.
15:09You're on the wheel.
15:11I've been harpooning bluefin for over 40 years,
15:13and I want nothing more than to outfish these other guys.
15:16But catching fish doesn't depend solely on me.
15:19It's on my crew, too, so hopefully they can keep delivering.
15:22Showtime, go time, battle stations.
15:25Get in it, buddy.
15:27Now we're pissed off.
15:29Let's kill something.
15:32How far?
15:34How far?
15:36Probably three boats from you right there.
15:38Slow down, slow down.
15:45Just keep going along slow.
15:48Okay, I got them.
15:50Okay, see you at 12 o'clock, just like you're going.
15:53It's about a boat and a half.
15:55Come to your starboard.
15:57There's one of them.
15:59Come to your starboard.
16:01There's one at 1250, and it looks best.
16:03I got color.
16:05You see that one right in the middle, right?
16:07Right there, right there.
16:09One boat length, 12 o'clock right there.
16:11That's the big one.
16:15Back it down, back it down, back it down, back it down.
16:17Hard, hard, hard.
16:19Good boy.
16:21Keep backing down, keep backing down, keep backing down,
16:23keep backing down.
16:25Good, good, good.
16:27Good job, Jeff.
16:29Come on down.
16:31Good job, Sean.
16:33That was perfect.
16:35Absolutely perfect, Sean.
16:37Got the fish, electrocuted right away.
16:39Kind of came back at the boat.
16:41Sean did a great job getting the boat in reverse
16:43and getting the back pressure of water
16:45and keep the fish away from the wheel.
16:47So you got to keep that fish away from the propeller.
16:49Otherwise, you're going to lose a fish.
16:51There you go.
16:53Oh, nice.
16:55Yeah!
16:57Well done, boys.
16:59All right, I'm re-rigging.
17:01You guys got some pocket right now, right?
17:03Get that thing tied off.
17:05Tie him up.
17:07We're tied with Joe on the red rum now,
17:09but that's not good enough for me.
17:11We got to get back at it,
17:13stay dialed in, and pull some more fish aboard.
17:15This is a tough one.
17:17All right, clear the line, get the fish's tail in.
17:19I'm moving.
17:21Oh!
17:2782.
17:2982!
17:3182!
17:33That's probably around 5k.
17:35Oh!
17:49Three miles east of Sandwich Harbor
17:51on fishing vessel Easy Does It.
17:53What are you eating, raw hot dogs, Thomas?
17:55Yeah.
17:57Wow.
17:59Better raw than cold on a hot day.
18:01Yeah, okay.
18:03This is my lunch,
18:05or actually my mid-breakfast.
18:07My brunch, I should say.
18:09Nice cold hot dog on a hot day.
18:11Doesn't get any better than that.
18:13Thomas!
18:15Get all the hatches up and...
18:17I want to go into stealth mode.
18:19All right.
18:21That...hot dog looks like cat...
18:23in your mouth or something.
18:27Eat raw...hot dogs.
18:29I expect today
18:31about a five-fish day.
18:35It's important for the guys that we catch
18:37because the fact is, this is the first time
18:39that I've been the captain,
18:41and I need to prove to them that I can produce
18:43and that I can be the guy that they can rely on
18:45to make money and pay their bills.
18:47Won't take long.
18:49Put a few more fish in this boat,
18:51and as long as everybody does their job,
18:53you know, Kevin on the wheel,
18:55Thomas making his catch,
18:57you know, Kevin on the wheel,
18:59Thomas making the sausage,
19:01we'll be successful.
19:03So as long as you're in communication with the guys...
19:05All right, let's do it.
19:07You got something, Kev?
19:0911 o'clock.
19:11Here we go, baby.
19:13Here we go.
19:15It's showtime.
19:17Right in the boat.
19:19What's that?
19:21Right here.
19:23There they are, Kev.
19:25There you go.
19:29They're right in that slick water.
19:33Looks like the left side might be further back.
19:35Yeah, they look further back.
19:39That one's furthest back, Kev.
19:41That one's furthest back.
19:47That's the one I want right there.
19:49Or this one.
19:51Get ready, Nick.
19:53Button on!
19:59Here we go, baby.
20:03That's the one I want right there.
20:09Or this one.
20:13Get ready, Nick.
20:15Button on!
20:17Button on!
20:23Get him!
20:25Hit him! Hit him!
20:27Hit him again!
20:29He's toast! That's how you do it, baby!
20:31That's how you do it!
20:33He's fried, baby!
20:35All right, let's get him in the boat.
20:37Get him in the boat.
20:39There we go.
20:41There we go.
20:43You got it, Thomas.
20:45You got it just like a cowboy!
20:47We got him!
20:49Clean him, Thomas.
20:51He's big. He's tall.
20:53He's taller than me, and he's fatter than me.
20:55Which means he's huge!
20:57Give me the meat hook rope.
20:59Through the door.
21:01All right, let's go.
21:05Oh, boy, he's wider than the door!
21:07Okay, ready? One, two, three, go!
21:11Let's get a measurement on this cow.
21:13All right, Thomas.
21:15Are you tight?
21:17111!
21:19111, baby!
21:21Thank the Puna gods, baby!
21:25111.
21:27This right here shows that we can come together as a team.
21:29Kevin and I communicated perfectly.
21:31Thomas got the fish right in the boat.
21:33This proves that we can come together
21:35and have a great season.
21:39Just trying to get a little breeze here and cool down.
21:4320 miles west,
21:45Captain Dylan on the pine box
21:47approaches his target ground
21:49for his son Emmett's first throw.
21:51We got to find the place
21:53where they really run.
21:55Do you not like the breeze out that way,
21:57Dylan? Is that why you're turning down this way?
21:59Oh, I like the breeze.
22:01I'm just trying to figure out,
22:03I think this might be a little bit warmer water.
22:05We're about 34 miles offshore.
22:07Hoping for a nice bunch to pop up
22:09so Emmett can get his first throw.
22:11He's the next generation, obviously.
22:13I'm a dinosaur,
22:15and so it'd be really nice to rely on Emmett
22:17to throw the harpoon once in a while.
22:19I'd like to see him throw it all the time,
22:21to be honest with you.
22:23There's some weight in here.
22:25In there in the glass.
22:27See that shaking in there?
22:31There they are.
22:33That's a bunch. See them?
22:35I got them! I got fish!
22:37What do you see?
22:39A nice bunch of fish.
22:41Come on up, Emmett, if you want.
22:43You can see them?
22:45No.
22:47They're plowing up there.
22:49You want to try?
22:51I guess.
22:53All right, go get your pole ready.
22:55Don't be nervous.
22:57Wait until you know you can hit them and aim and throw them.
22:59I think he'll hit it.
23:01I think this is his first shot,
23:03so this will be pretty exciting.
23:05This is my first time throwing a harpoon on a bluefin.
23:07I think it's a nervousness and an excitement
23:09because the chance to hit one's there,
23:11but the chance to miss one's also there as well.
23:13Pick it up and hold that back line.
23:17I've been around it enough
23:19that I think I have as good a shot as anybody.
23:21Get your hand on the back of the pole.
23:23Yep.
23:25Get that line tight so it's laying against the pole.
23:27Bring that forward.
23:29Hold that in your forward hand.
23:31There you go.
23:33Now get the pole in the back.
23:35When you're ready to throw, look at me.
23:37Have that pole ready and aimed
23:39because you're not going to have time to pick it up and throw.
23:41You've got to be ready to throw.
23:43I'm going to try
23:45for the second one in from the right.
23:47Look at the weights.
23:49Beautiful, quintessential diamonds.
23:51Look at them running.
23:53Big fish, Em.
23:55Just get your pole pointing straight.
23:57You don't want to move it a lot.
23:59I'm going on the second one in, I think, Em.
24:01Big fish.
24:03Em, just wait.
24:05Throw out the big one.
24:07I've got it.
24:13Not even close.
24:15They spooked right when I threw it.
24:17Reverse.
24:19You should have thrown at that big one.
24:21I did. I threw at the big one.
24:23No, the huge one was right there.
24:25The big one was there.
24:27I'm going to drill that one.
24:29I missed him.
24:31I threw it at him.
24:33Thought I aimed for the big one.
24:35They don't think it was the big one,
24:37but I didn't hit him, so failure.
24:39It's good for him to throw, though.
24:41It puts it in perspective for him
24:43how hard it is.
24:45He missed that fish by 100 yards,
24:47so it's good for him.
24:49It would have been great to see him
24:51and get that shot, but he's young.
24:53We've got years to perfect it,
24:55and that was a lack of experience
24:57situation there.
24:59That was a beautiful bunch, though,
25:01wasn't it?
25:03Find another batch.
25:05Nice job, though, Ann.
25:21That's a real one.
25:23That's a big fish.
25:25That's a good-looking one.
25:27That's some nice meat right there.
25:29Refrigerator!
25:31We got a refrigerator!
25:33It's a refrigerator!
25:35I really enjoy
25:37having the kids on the boat.
25:39Growing up on the ocean,
25:41it teaches you a lot in life.
25:43It teaches you how to work hard.
25:45Having Luke on the boat
25:47and teaching him is amazing,
25:49but it also leaves my heart empty
25:51because Peter was out there
25:53a couple years ago.
25:55Now he has a hard time.
25:57It's emotional.
26:05Oh, a smasher over there.
26:07See him?
26:11Just had something blow up right here.
26:13I got one right here.
26:15We got fish, boys!
26:17Stay down!
26:19Come this way, Joey.
26:23He kept edging that way.
26:25Come back left a touch, I guess.
26:27See the whitewater out there in front of you?
26:29Yeah, I see it.
26:31How could I not?
26:33Come on, boys. Put it together.
26:35Let's go.
26:37Luke, get up here. I want the kids here.
26:39We're going to get another shot here.
26:41What do you think?
26:43I got to get this fish on deck.
26:45Another 10K day
26:47would be huge for my family.
26:49Still got whitewater
26:51coming off him.
26:53How's his speed?
26:557'4".
26:57Fast, right?
26:59Come around, Mike.
27:01Easy, Mike. Easy, easy.
27:03Slow it down easy.
27:05Turn it down right, Mike.
27:07Where up.
27:09Steady, steady, steady.
27:11Steady, steady, steady.
27:13Steady, steady.
27:15That's right. Steady.
27:18All right.
27:20Start coming right now.
27:22Turn broadside.
27:24He's broadside to you.
27:26Broadside to you.
27:35All right.
27:37Start coming right now.
27:39He's broadside to you.
27:41Broadside to you.
27:48Get him.
27:53Start the boat.
27:55All right, you're good.
28:03I got to tell you, that was a miracle.
28:05You couldn't see him, apparently.
28:07Not until he came right at me.
28:09I didn't know where he was.
28:11We made a good broadside shot.
28:13That's all I can say.
28:15Dinosaur hunting.
28:17Dinosaur.
28:25No matter where you put it, just move the cooler.
28:27You got the fish now.
28:31It's just how it goes sometimes.
28:33Marky was excited because we were overshooting him,
28:35but Hacker couldn't see.
28:37He lost visibility,
28:39and he had to rely completely on Marky.
28:42He knew if he got me somewhere close,
28:44I would get the job done.
28:49I smoked it.
28:54Joe just got his second fish.
28:56Yeah.
28:59That's our biggest.
29:01That's huge.
29:04What a leap, boys.
29:06He killed me on that one.
29:08I lost it.
29:10I'm like, what the...
29:12And then I saw him.
29:14I just...
29:16Come around him.
29:18You know what I mean?
29:26Man, this is a real big fish.
29:28We're hoping for
29:30a nice, good, high price,
29:32a high-quality tail cut
29:34because this puppy's going to dress out.
29:36I'm hoping around 600 pounds.
29:38That could lead to a real big paycheck
29:40if we get a good price per pound.
29:42Look at the shoulders on this cow.
29:44Whoo!
29:47Let me get a sample,
29:49and we'll talk business.
29:53I want to see some fat.
29:55I want to see some oil.
29:57I want to see some nice color.
29:59I want to see some money, baby!
30:03Not awful for the size, Bubba.
30:05No, not at all.
30:07Look at the fat coming through.
30:09Good color on it.
30:11Comes all the fat going all the way through it.
30:13That's a decent fish, man.
30:15Belly's not sunk in a tiny bit here,
30:17but it's got a nice shape on it.
30:19Shoulders broad, man.
30:21Yeah, that's a big boy.
30:23Based on the quality
30:25and the shape,
30:27do 15 bucks a pound.
30:2915? I'll take that.
30:31All right, perfect.
30:33Sounds good.
30:35All right.
30:37Let's get this thing loaded,
30:39and then you can head on out.
30:41Roger, roger.
30:47613 pounds.
30:49613 pounds, baby.
30:51All right.
30:53An over $9,000 payday is huge.
30:55I've got confidence
30:57that we'll be successful this year,
30:59and I think that Kevin and Thomas
31:01feel the same way.
31:03613.
31:05We got 15 bucks a pound,
31:07just over $9,000, Thomas.
31:09Wow. How's that for a payday?
31:11That's unbelievable.
31:13Let's keep this train rolling, boys.
31:15Let's do it.
31:17All right. Good job.
31:19Thanks.
31:21You heard him.
31:25I'm glad you got to throw him.
31:27I don't know.
31:29They took off.
31:31As soon as you see him
31:33starting to do that stuff,
31:35that's when the game's just about over,
31:37but like I say,
31:39it's a lot harder from down there
31:41than it is from up here.
31:43It's harder than you think.
31:45Emmett Smith was tragic
31:47in the sense that we don't have the fish,
31:49but well worth it in the sense
31:51that now he has some experience,
31:53and there's one thing for sure.
31:55When you miss a tuna fish,
31:57you relive it in your mind,
31:59and it'll go forward or it'll kind of go down
32:01and go the wrong way,
32:03so you want your hands closer together maybe.
32:05You can't learn unless you try,
32:07and you can't try unless you learn.
32:09Well, s***.
32:11That's how you learn.
32:13You got to throw. You got to try.
32:21Good job, boys.
32:23Today was a good day,
32:25but what made it a great day
32:27was the kids were involved.
32:29That's it.
32:39Seeing Luke and Ethan on the boat today,
32:41honestly, it makes me think of Peter
32:43and what he's missing out on.
32:45Poor little kid.
32:47That's all I've been thinking about all day.
32:51We're heading in
32:53to drop off Luke and Ethan,
32:55but we're going to pick up Peter
32:57and my nephew Ben
32:59to enjoy the afternoon on the boat.
33:01What up?
33:03Hopefully, we can catch two more fish with them.
33:05Jump on the boat.
33:07As a parent, you try to feel
33:09what your kids feel,
33:11and you try to understand what they're going through.
33:13I have no idea what my son Peter's going through.
33:15You good, Pete?
33:17No.
33:19I cannot imagine what it's like
33:21being a 12-year-old little boy,
33:23sitting on the playground and playing football.
33:25Ready?
33:27Are you okay?
33:29Yeah, I'm fine.
33:31As a parent,
33:33it 100% wears on you.
33:43We're going to get them.
33:45See this slick?
33:47I see it.
33:49I don't see a thing.
33:51I'd do anything for my kids,
33:53and coping is just spending time with them.
33:55I think I can make the best of it, you know?
33:57How you doing, Peter, okay?
33:59Yeah.
34:01Good.
34:03What is that up there?
34:07Oh, look at that, Pete.
34:09Look, look, look, right here.
34:11Oh, I think I see it.
34:13Oh, yeah.
34:15Look at that thing.
34:17We got a dead humpback.
34:21That's so sick.
34:23There's a shock on it.
34:25Where?
34:33Here, Pete, ready?
34:35Going in, going in, going in, going in, going in.
34:37We're having some family time right now,
34:39and there's no better way to spend it
34:41than teaching the kids how to throw a harpoon.
34:43You're going to be the next harpooner.
34:45Let's see it.
34:47Ready?
34:49Go.
34:53Good job.
34:55Bullseye.
34:57Good job, Pete.
34:59Hit that right there, this leaf.
35:01There's your end.
35:03Let's see it.
35:05Oh, good shot.
35:07That was right on, dude.
35:09Good job.
35:11Bullseye.
35:13There's 2 white shocks on it.
35:15I want to see the sharks.
35:17Usually they love to hang out in the slick.
35:19What's the slick?
35:21That slicked-up water right behind you.
35:23Oh, right there.
35:25Oh, there he is.
35:27There he is.
35:29He's going in for a bite.
35:35Come on.
35:37Oh, he's going to take a bite.
35:39He's going to take a bite.
35:41Here he comes, guys.
35:43Look, look, look.
35:45Oh, that's so cool.
35:51He's taking a bite.
35:53Look, look, he's taking a bite.
35:55His head's out of the water.
35:57Made me hungry.
35:59He doesn't like whale.
36:01Oh, my God.
36:03Look at him.
36:05How's that?
36:07It means so much to get Peter out on the boat
36:09because I'm not sure
36:11how long he can do it.
36:13Dude, look at pieces of it floating
36:15with chunks out of it.
36:17We just have to cherish every moment we have with him
36:19on the boat.
36:21This is a good day.
36:23Going back to school, that's a pretty cool summer story for him.
36:25That makes my day.
36:27Okay, boys.
36:29Let's get back in and sell these fish.
36:31Oh, my gosh.
36:39What's up, Bubba?
36:41What's up?
36:43Doggie, come here.
36:45Come here.
36:47Oh, I love you.
36:49How was the doctors, okay?
36:51Did you have to do the blood work?
36:53Were you tough?
36:55Yeah, tough on myself.
36:57Good. Were you tougher than Peter?
36:59Yeah.
37:01Good, good. I love you, kiddo.
37:03Love you.
37:09Finally,
37:11some real ones, Bubba.
37:13Let's see what our dress is out at.
37:21601 pounds.
37:23Bubba, what do you think?
37:25We're hoping Bubba sees
37:27good color.
37:29We don't want red meat.
37:31We want that ruby color meat.
37:33And we're hoping to see a little bit of fat content.
37:35Yeah, this is...
37:37This first fish's not...
37:39nothing too special,
37:41really, just red meat.
37:43You know.
37:45A little bit of fat, though.
37:47Tiny trace?
37:49Like the very smallest bit here,
37:51but other than that, nothing...
37:53In the minors?
37:55Yeah, nothing really transferring over.
37:57What do you think?
37:59Market's not bad, so this one...
38:0110 bucks a pound for this.
38:0310 bucks? That's great. Thank you, Bubba.
38:05Let's look at the second one, too.
38:13This one's 529 pounds.
38:15That's not bad.
38:17Yeah, I mean, this one's just...
38:21It's just a red rubber ball, unfortunately.
38:23Man.
38:25I can't even put my thumb through it.
38:27You're kidding me.
38:29Yeah, I mean, you gotta press pretty hard.
38:31I figured they weren't pogies, they'd be a little bit of fat.
38:33Yeah, they might have just gotten there.
38:35Oh, man.
38:37Well, what do you think?
38:39This one I'd give you 9 bucks for.
38:419 bucks?
38:43Yeah, 9 bucks a pound.
38:45All right. I was hoping for a little more.
38:47All right, Joe, I just need your sign, and we're good.
38:49All right. But we'll take it.
38:51Our crew needed a couple days to get synced in,
38:53but it's just gonna get better from here.
38:55Thanks, man. Thank you.
38:57Have a great day. You, too.
39:03All right, guys.
39:05Get him out now.
39:15What's going on, Baba?
39:17How you been?
39:19Pretty good. How are you?
39:21That Uncle Blaine's got one for you today.
39:23Nice.
39:25All right.
39:27All right.
39:29All right.
39:32Oh.
39:34All right.
39:36Let me get it up and dressed out,
39:38and we'll see what the payday weight is.
39:40I got it. Go ahead.
39:42All right.
39:44The fish in general were small today,
39:46but collectively, we did very well,
39:48so that gives me and the crew
39:50some semblance of accomplishment for today.
39:56All right. Where do you see him, Baba?
39:58Surprisingly, this fish actually is showing a little bit of fat.
40:00It's full of mackerel.
40:02That's a good thing.
40:04You know, not the biggest fish,
40:06but that doesn't mean it's the worst.
40:08It was eating good for sure.
40:10I think we can give you, like, $18 a pound.
40:12Sweet. All right, man. Thanks.
40:14No problem. Thank you.
40:24Yeah, 230 pounds dressed.
40:26This is the biggest fish we saw all day,
40:28so I'm actually pretty damn happy about it, to be honest.
40:30Oh, yeah. At least you got one.
40:32Yeah, at least we got one.
40:34We did 133 miles today to get that one fish,
40:36but the crew did very well.
40:38Appreciate it, man.
40:40Appreciate you. Thank you.
40:42Tomorrow, we're going to go out and try to find something bigger.
40:44The fish wasn't that bad.
40:46He's looking about 18 bucks.
40:48Really?
40:50230 dressed.
40:52That's awesome. That's a good price.
40:54No doubt about that.
40:56Am I happy? Of course I'm happy.
40:58I caught a tuna fish.
41:02Captain Nico on the Easy Does It
41:04solidifies his leadership
41:06as he lands the biggest fish of the season,
41:08pocketing over $9,000.
41:12Captain Joe on the Red Rum
41:14maintains the lead with his second
41:16two-fish haul,
41:18earning him the highest single-day payout of the season,
41:20more than $10,000.
41:22Keeping his
41:24veteran rival Tyler McAllister
41:26on the Cynthia C2
41:28at a safe distance.
41:30And despite his best efforts,
41:32Captain Dylan on the Pine Box
41:34remains in the red.
