00:00Hit it!
00:01Yeah!
00:02Nice job!
00:03Nice round, butter ball.
00:05As the harpooning fleet tallies 25 tons of Lufen tuna.
00:10Hit him!
00:11Back it down, back it down, back it down!
00:14That's how you do it, baby!
00:15He's fried, baby!
00:16Each captain angles for the lion's share of the remaining 59-ton quota.
00:21We definitely needed that one.
00:22We have to fight for this limited quota, so a lot of harpooners don't like each other.
00:27You guys!
00:28harassment. I love when they hate me. In the waters off Cape Cod, three centuries
00:35old strategies still compete. Some bank on instinct and intuition.
00:41I'm getting excited from leftover whale eggs. The tuna like to eat the same food the whales are eating.
00:45Others use science to gain the upper hand. As an undergrad I studied the bluefin
00:51tuna ad nauseam. I got a bunch going south right into the wind. And I am out
00:55here to outfish everyone in this fishing boat. And a select few rely on legacy. The old man
01:00taught me pretty much anything I know how to do on the water. But nobody relies
01:06on luck.
01:14They're still there, they're deep, but they're there.
01:25Five fish today boys, five fish. Let's get them. We're going to look our way across at like 14 knots, see if we can find polgies.
01:38A couple boats got them out of the polgies yesterday, real real tight to the
01:41beach. That's the only way they can fish. I heard the whales are in close here. That
01:45means the polgies are right here. Going into this trip we're behind red rum and
01:50easy does it in terms of profits. I'm personally not happy with how much we've
01:53made this season and I'm hoping this is a profitable trip. After a hard southwest
01:58like this, generally the warmer water gets pushed to the north and to the east.
02:02So we just need to move around and find that warm water. I understand bluefin
02:08tuna on a scientific level and that gives me the edge. As an undergrad I
02:12studied the bluefin tuna ad nauseam. I read almost every scientific paper
02:16written right through 1992. I've always treated the bluefin tuna as a big giant
02:22science experiment. I've been tracking water temperatures for 30 years. I've
02:26been monitoring where I catch fish, when I catch fish, moon phase. You're trying to
02:31interpret the signals the ocean gives you that the fish are present. Marking piles of
02:35polgies, stripers. We're gonna just start looking now. We'll just make our way
02:40across the bay and just keep going north. There's a Mickey right there. What? Mickey
02:45right there. Yeah, I'm not surprised. We're marking bait the whole way.
02:50Coming on the heels of his first cold spell of the season, Captain Tyler sits
02:56in third place with four fish caught so far this season, right behind Captain
03:01Nico on the easy does it. Meanwhile, Captain Joe Dion on the red
03:06rope has yet to lose his stride, holding a significant lead on the rest of the
03:11fleet with six fish caught.
03:15Any power cords or anything? Why, would that be a problem pulling away with a
03:20power cord plug in? Watch your back, Mike. Don't get squished. We're in the lead, so let's go
03:27get some more tuna. Today we're fishing close again. We're fishing inside
03:31Stellwagen, in between Marshfield and Stellwagen Bay. Probably only seven or
03:37eight miles offshore. We'll be nice and close. We're not gonna burn a lot of fuel.
03:41If there's anything running around inside here with Mark in the plane,
03:45we'll find them. Currently, we're in the lead. Easy does it is in second, and
03:50Cynthia C2 is in third. Tyler has all these fancy college degrees, but we on
03:57the Red Rum use our instincts to try to find these fish and experience.
04:02Hey, Nate! 50 degrees! Really? Think about it. If you're cold, you're gonna come up.
04:10Maybe not come up. It'll be a show day. I hope so. Right on.
04:22Get it nice and centered, Thomas. There you go. All set. All right. Get this pulver down and get the f*** out of here.
04:30It was a little breezy this morning, but we kind of let go. There's still a pretty
04:34good land breeze, but hopefully once we get out, it'll be nice and flat.
04:40In this industry, some guys have a science background like Tyler. Some guys work off
04:45of instinct like Joe, Dion, and Dylan. And then there's us.
04:51Everyone in this boat was trained by my father, and this year we're operating off
04:55a lot of his prior knowledge of the fishery and what has worked for this
04:59boat in the past. You can't really go poke around and try to find something. You have to
05:03go to where you know you've had action. So that's where we're gonna head, and
05:06hopefully we'll run across something.
05:09We want the fish bad. I can taste the fish. We want it so bad, and hopefully
05:14today will be the day.
05:22Seven miles northeast on the Cynthia C2.
05:34Love fishing, hate waiting. Come on, fish. The nice thing about this water, too, is tuna
05:41tracks. It's not windy enough to wipe out the tuna tracks yet.
05:45Spotting bluefin tuna is an acquired art. The tuna swim in multiple formations. So
05:51you have the general migratory formation, which is usually a large blob. They're
05:56constantly changing within the school. You have the lines of fish which are
06:01literally lined up side-by-side. They're hunting. They're actively looking for
06:06food, or they're moving from one piece of bottom to the next, and they're using the
06:13warmer surface water to try to get from point A to point B. I've been doing this
06:1740 years, and I'm still learning how to see fish even better. But, you know, my
06:23crew will tell you that I'm usually picking up the bunch a long time before
06:26they do. I hope it gets nice. I know. Me too. I'm getting ready to take my shirt off.
06:35Please don't. I mean, I mean my jacket. Thank you for clarifying that.
06:39Come to your one o'clock. I got something on top here. About 20 boats there. That's my
06:45boy. Right here. Right here. Yeah, I got him. They're right on top at 1215 there to you.
06:50About three boats going away. Touch of power, guys. Close the distance up. Close
06:55the distance right up. You're right on his tail. I got color from here. Okay, good.
07:00In general, I'm a very competitive person, especially when it comes to tuna
07:04fishing, and I am out here to outfish everyone in this fleet. Sagging out, I think.
07:09You got him or no? No. They're down deep right now at quarter to twelve at a boat
07:14and a half going away. I want you to go. Oh yeah, I got him. I got him. Okay, power. Go, go, go, go.
07:20Okay, looks like quarter to twelve there. Going away from me at about a boat and a
07:24half. Slow it down a little bit. Here you go. Come to 1230 now. Don't have color. I don't have
07:34color, Cap. Thought I had him. Just wait. They're down real deep. I don't see them right now.
07:40There'd be a quarter of a boat straight down deep. I don't see them. If the tuna
07:44settle before I get a shot, 50% of the time or more they'll come back up. It's
07:49not really that they're scared and they're running away from the boat. A lot
07:52of times it's just a direction change. When they come up, instead of going east,
07:55they might be going southeast or going due south. So you wait till they come back up,
07:59get established on the surface, and then you go back to your attack pattern. Wait
08:04for these to come back up. They'll come back up. Twelve o'clock to you, boat and a half, right on top.
08:10Yeah, I got him. Go, go, go, go. Go ahead, go ahead, go ahead. All right, got to give me some power now. Power, power, power.
08:18Come on. You got to hang on to safety in front of him. Oh, come on. Twelve o'clock there, about a half a boat.
08:31Hit him! Back it down! Back it down! That's a beast! That's a beast! You son of a bitch. Nice shot.
08:40Keep backing down. Keep backing down. Back down hard. Back down hard. Go, go, go, go. Fish is going.
08:45I hope we didn't cut him off. Go, go, go, go, go. Keep going, keep going. Oh, easy. Slow down, slow down, slow down, slow down, slow down.
08:51Slow down, slow down, slow down. Nice job, Sean. He went right under the boat. Freaking monster.
08:58He's up front now. Okay, put him off the starboard side, Sean. Just put him off the starboard side,
09:03buddy. Nice job, Sean. That was awesome. Absolutely awesome. That was a hell of a job, man. The biggest
09:09concern is when the fish goes under the boat after you harpoon them, because he might get drawn into
09:14the wheel and you'll pull dark. Back it down! Back it down! So it's important that the guy on the helm gets
09:20that boat in reverse, pushing the water underneath the boat towards the fish, keeping the line away
09:26from the wheel. Nice job, Sean. That was awesome. See if he's the biggest one we got. He's by far the
09:33biggest fish we got. All right, tailrope, tailrope, tailrope. Ready? He's gonna be too long. He hasn't
09:39leave enough room. He's gonna be too big. Get him in. Get that tailrope off him. Untie it there.
09:44Pull to the dark. Yes, sir. I gotta go. He's very big. 102. 102. 102. Can I call it or can I call it?
09:56We got our biggest fish so far of the season on deck, which is great, but we're still one behind
10:00Joe. So red rum, we're not done yet. Let's get another one. All right, let's go get number two.
10:10What's Marky saying? He's been working to the south, I mean the north. He hasn't seen
10:17****. Now he's going out on the northwest corner. So anything exciting to report? **** no.
10:27Here comes the sun. Come on. Yeah, just open up a little bit. There's no question we've been having
10:35a good season so far, catching consistently. But all it takes is one day for someone like Tyler
10:43to get on a roll and that lead is gone. And that goes for any other boat. If any boat's catching
10:49fish, why aren't we there and why aren't we catching those fish? I smell them. This is the
10:55way you get multiple usually, but it happens like, you know, it happens in there.
11:00Whale right there. Yeah, there's one up here too. Oh yeah, there's a humpback. See a big tail?
11:08They call them humpbacks because they arch their backs and they open their mouths and feed.
11:14It's nothing to do with their actual back. It's the way they shape themselves and arch
11:17themselves when they're feeding. That's how they get that name, humpback. So we don't like to eat
11:21the same food the whales are eating. Sometimes the whales will kill some food and they'll eat
11:27the tuna fish and just be there scooping it all up. It's all right there for them. Easy pickings.
11:33He gets excited from leftover whale wick. See it?
11:37Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, uh oh. I see something.
11:43You see something? You got something off to your right. Two o'clock or so.
11:51Twenty-five boats or so here going into the sea.
11:55Wakes right there. I can still see it.
11:58And about ten boats or so maybe.
12:04They're close up there. Right there on that funny water right there.
12:08Right side. Come right just a touch now.
12:12Steady like that. Steady like that. Going away. Yeah, I'm in the clear.
12:17Steady like that. Steady like that. Going away. Yeah, I'm in the clear.
12:29Steady like that. Steady like that. Going away. Yeah, I'm in the clear.
12:39Too small. No good. Short? No. Too small? Yeah.
12:44They looked like sixty-five. They weren't even close.
12:48All too small, Marky.
12:52Oh, that's a little one.
12:56We took a look at them. They weren't good enough.
13:00According to federal fishing regulations, a fish has to be 73 inches to harvest.
13:04We're in an area where there's some small fish,
13:08but there's some big ones in here, and Mark has real good judgment,
13:12so we just got to pick through them and try to find the keepers.
13:16Come on, Marky. Find me a keeper!
13:20Thirteen miles east on the Easy Does It.
13:24Grinding out the bay.
13:28This is where my dad taught me to do what we do.
13:32You hear what they're seeing out here? I mean, I know it's big fish,
13:36but you know, any bunches, size, you know, numbers, not really.
13:40We're lucky that our fish have been slobs this season, but we've only caught two fish
13:44compared to Joe's six and Tyler's four.
13:48We're staying local today on the inside of the bay.
13:52And this is where Billy made his legacy and his career, right here close to home,
13:56not burning much fuel, and coming in with slobs.
14:00I mean, that's one thing your dad had. He was just, like, gathering information all night, all day.
14:04Oh, you're ****ing me. His phone never left his ****ing ear.
14:08Everything I do is in service to my father's legacy.
14:12He's the reason why staying competitive is so important to me.
14:16Alright, so the real question is, what's our ****ing move now?
14:20Oh, we got a winky behind us!
14:24Roger, roger.
14:32You got something?
14:36What's this in front of us, Kev?
14:40See this? It's going left to right.
14:44You mean way out there? Yeah.
14:48I don't know if it's awake or whatever.
14:56Kev, I think that's fish.
15:00We're already on fish. It's going to be a great day.
15:04Yeah, ****. Want me to slow down? Yeah.
15:08Kind of all over the place, Nick.
15:12Looks like they might be going off to the left.
15:16Want me to just turn right in on them? Yeah.
15:20Get ready, Nick. I'll be ready.
15:24I got them right here. You got the fish? Yep. Alright, hang on.
15:28Give me ****ing five seconds. Get up, Ron.
15:32Alright.
15:40Those are fish, Kev. Yeah. That's fish. They're coming up.
15:44Just a touch more speed, Kev. A little bit.
15:48Here we go. Here we go.
15:52They're all over the place. Right there. Yep.
15:56They're still there. They're going off to the left.
16:00They're still there.
16:04To the right. Keep coming.
16:08They're still there. They're deep, but they're there.
16:12Right there, Kev. To the left.
16:16Come on.
16:20Hit them.
16:24We got them.
16:28Hit him again. Hit him again.
16:32We got him. He's toast.
16:36Maybe.
16:40Still kicking or what? Nope, just his head.
16:44Right through my legs. Yep.
16:52We don't need no ****ing fling.
16:56We got ****ing 91 inches.
17:0091. You heard him.
17:04Thanks, Billy.
17:08Alright, let's get four more. Let's do it.
17:16Fifty miles to the north, Captain Bill Munez on the Fishizzle
17:20targets Ipswich Bay.
17:26I wonder what
17:30all the superstars are doing today.
17:34Tyler, Captain Dilligan, Mr. Joey Dion,
17:38and the WWF Walker League, Nick Shavralis.
17:42You know they're all scared to ****. Nobody has as much fun as me
17:46doing this. Nope. So the other guys had a big jump start
17:50on me. I'm not worried about it. I'm one of the best.
17:54We're catching up. We are catching up. And I feel great about this season.
17:58Me and my nephew are just going to kick some ass.
18:02I better be quiet. Keep talking ****.
18:06I've been doing this for years. I don't think anyone can compete
18:10with my percentage of throwing. My strategy comes from
18:14working with these fish a lot. Knowing their movements. Knowing their patterns.
18:18Just a sense in my heart where to go with these fish will be that day.
18:22We just need to catch one, then we're really done.
18:26Something's **** up.
18:30Shark, maybe? Porpoise? I don't know.
18:34Porpoise.
18:38Looks like we're in the aquarium.
18:42Got him right up in here.
18:46You got him going? Yeah, somewhere right up in here.
18:50There we go.
18:54Good boy. Alright, let's line this thing up right.
18:58Keep it going like this. Get ready to slow it down when I tie it and get the kill speed.
19:02Here we go. Here we go.
19:06Hopefully he don't **** it up this time.
19:10Slow it down, son. Slow it down.
19:14Go to that left one over here. The left one.
19:18The left one.
19:22Get over. Get over. Get over. Slow it down.
19:26Slow it down, Steve. Turn to the right.
19:30Over. Right here.
19:34Right here.
19:42Right here. Slow it down.
19:46He's pulling it back.
19:50Hit him. Hit him. Back it up. Back it up. Pull him back. Pull him back.
19:54Alright, easy. Easy.
19:58Come ahead. Come ahead. Touch it in gear. Just in gear.
20:02Just go ahead on him. Hit him again. Hit him. Hit him. Hit him.
20:06Hit him on the butt. Yep. Hit him.
20:10Yep. Alright. He good? Yeah, he's good.
20:14Hurry up.
20:18That's who we're looking for, right?
20:22Cinderella, go in the front.
20:26Down. Down. Down. Down.
20:30Fast as you can. Let it go. Heavy little bastard.
20:34I'm so happy. We might have been late to the party,
20:38but we kicked the door down on the way in.
20:42It's a huge payday, I can tell.
20:46I'm going to get a measurement right on him right now.
20:50108 inches. Wow, that's a big sea monster.
20:54He's got it now, now, man. He's got everything in order.
20:58The whale's still going. The sun's still low.
21:02We couldn't ask for a better day today.
21:06See if I can find another punch.
21:12My mother just had a checkup.
21:16Tell her, what's a CEA marker?
21:20It basically indicates if there's any activity,
21:24cancerous activity.
21:28She got like the chills like 2 weeks ago,
21:32like bad chills a couple times.
21:36But she went for a checkup, she just got the results.
21:40Who's this, your wife? Mother.
21:44She had surgery in April. I hope they got it all.
21:48Mine, they told me that if it doesn't come back in the first 2 years,
21:52you're probably good, but it's been 5 years.
21:56He said, you're real good.
22:00I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2019.
22:04My approach to my treatment was how I treat fishing.
22:08You push yourself to the edge, despite having some pretty significant amount of surgery done.
22:12The day after I was cleared to go fishing again,
22:16I killed my first fish with a harpoon.
22:20I was completely wrapped up, tight as possible to keep from doing any damage,
22:24but I was back fishing and was still taking my chemotherapy while I was fishing.
22:28It was a hard battle, but a battle that
22:32up to this point, I have won.
22:36Now that we've got the wind though, if we can find one up,
22:40my confidence level has gone way up.
22:4410 miles northeast,
22:48on the easy dust.
22:52Alright, well now that we're re-rigged,
22:56we're ready to go. I feel good. I'm just thankful to be producing
23:00and I'm thankful to have my team working together and we're all doing our job
23:04and that's what it takes to be successful in this fishery.
23:08I'd like to be able to put another 2 or 3 fish in this boat and have a slammer of a day.
23:12Let's get the job done and let's keep on going.
23:16See this boat behind us coming in?
23:20Oh, I think that's rum.
23:24Rum job.
23:28We're going out to Mika.
23:32Yo!
23:36What's the word? Good going.
23:40Can't let you have all the fun, man.
23:44Trying to play catch up to you and the scientist.
23:48No, it's good. I haven't had a chance yet.
23:52How far east did you go? I was up at like 650, 200.
23:56Alright, brother. Well, good luck.
24:00It's surprising to see him in a lull,
24:04but we'll definitely try to seize the opportunity to get ahead.
24:12There's that right there.
24:16See it? 12 o'clock.
24:20Oh, way out there? Yeah.
24:24Oh, boy.
24:28Here we go.
24:36There they go. There they are.
24:4811 o'clock.
24:52Still got them, Kev? Yep.
24:56Bug came out.
25:00Thomas! Yo! Get me some black tape.
25:04Not seeing it now. What's that? Not seeing it now.
25:08Are you okay? You heard him.
25:16I got him right here. 11 o'clock.
25:20Oh, there they are.
25:24Okay. There they are.
25:28Alright. I think they're going this way, Kev.
25:32They're going the left side of them.
25:36Still got them, Kev? Yep.
25:40I got them right here.
25:44They're going this way.
25:52Hit him! Hit him! Hit him!
25:56That's it.
26:00Hit him!
26:04Hit him! Hit him!
26:08That's right!
26:12Back it up! Back it up!
26:16Come grab him, Thomas.
26:20Nice and easy now. Start pulling him up, Thomas.
26:24Here he comes, Kev. He's a big one.
26:28Let's go, baby!
26:32Oh, no! Alright, is he in? Yep.
26:36Give me a knife. Yep.
26:40We picked up another bunch, went on them, they started milling in a circle.
26:44It was a tough shot because we were coming up on them from the side,
26:48but luckily enough, Kev was able to swing me over him, gave me the best possible chance that I could,
26:52and I was able to heave it out through the net, so we got two.
26:56We doubled our fish count in one trip, but it's a tight race at the top,
27:00so we're gonna have to slow down. Give me the smart ends. You heard him.
27:04You on, Thomas? Oh, yeah.
27:08108 inches. Good job, Kev.
27:12You've been slaying them quick.
27:1610 miles southwest
27:20on the Cynthia C2.
27:24I like it! I like it! I like it a lot!
27:28That fish won't fit in the slush tank, obviously.
27:32We got a fish on board, but the name of the game at this time of the season is multiple fish trips.
27:36We need to come home with a load.
27:40It looks like that southwest is starting to build down the southwest corner of the bay.
27:44The fish tend to show just before the wind comes too much for us to fish.
27:48The last hour of fishing before a southwest wind might come up,
27:52a lot of times those fish will be on the surface. I don't know why, it's just a behavior of theirs.
27:56Especially on the southwest. On other wind directions, I don't see it near as much.
28:00What say you, Dougie?
28:04I thought I had a bunch here, made a couple turns, but can't find them, you know?
28:08Yeah, I gotcha.
28:1225 miles north on the Red Rum.
28:16The more I fly around out here, the more I think it's been a good day to just stay home and play house.
28:20Oh, watch, he's grumpy.
28:24He's foul.
28:28I mean, the weather's right, it's just the wind isn't as bad.
28:32It's obviously going to be sunnier.
28:36If we keep going like this, we're going to melt Nate's credit card.
28:40That's stupid. Ain't no sense to it.
28:44Alright, let's go.
28:48Tyler and Nico have both caught fish today, definitely feeling the pressure.
28:52Well, we're heading towards a tide change right now, and we need the fish.
28:56The fish make the day.
29:00Because I was looking at that spot right there.
29:04Sometimes you don't see it until you see it.
29:08I see something.
29:12How far?
29:16643, 267.
29:20I need to stop praying a little bit.
29:24Oh, there's fish in here, baby. I like it.
29:28Boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop.
29:32I got something right over here.
29:36I got a bunch.
29:40I got fish! Shut down the pump!
29:44Coming your way.
29:48Yeah, I see you running there. I'll be right there.
29:521130.
29:56Going south, right into the wind.
30:001130.
30:081230. See it? It looked good there for a minute.
30:12It was on the right side of the wave, and it just really showed itself.
30:16Got to come right. You're 1 o'clock.
30:2020 boats, maybe. A little less.
30:24There comes the sun. Does he have them?
30:28All right, take a turn. They're going quick.
30:32Touch the power. There you go. Good, good, good.
30:36They're looking really good. Slide right in behind them, Sean.
30:40It's not your turn right now. If you're far enough back, you won't screw them up.
30:44I don't have a look right now. I got them. 1130.
30:48They're swimming from your left to your right right now.
30:52Turn here a little bit to face it, and now pull that course steady.
30:56Go ahead and turn on them, Mike.
31:00Come to your left a little bit. Come to your left a little. That's it.
31:04Just start slowly backing it on.
31:08A little slow. Get away from me now, there.
31:1212 o'clock. Come left a touch.
31:16Broadside. Mike, I was trying to get you to come
31:20around them.
31:24Watch me.
31:28Come right. I'm looking right.
31:32I know the fish. We're all looking at the fish, and you took them broadside.
31:36I'm just saying, come right and come around the back of them.
31:40That's the best chance I'm going to get.
31:44They're always looking sideways, don't they, Mike?
31:48Instead of coming away, so the fish is coming up on the fish, they turn.
31:52Instead of coming away and back into them, we went right into them sideways.
31:56It sucks. I was trying to get him to come off and back in, but he wouldn't do it.
32:00He went right into them sideways. They go in the wrong way anyway.
32:04Not a good chance.
32:08It's going.
32:12We need our luck to change.
32:16Bring your power back.
32:20Slow her down.
32:24Slow her right down.
32:28That could be him right here.
32:32He was going this way. I don't have him.
32:36This is where he was.
32:40Go that way.
32:44They should be at 1145 to 10.
32:48They were right where we were.
32:52They sagged.
33:00I got him over here at 9 o'clock.
33:04That's them.
33:08Perfect. Nice job, Todd.
33:12You get the star.
33:16I got two of them.
33:20The right one is further back, it looks like.
33:24The right one is up good.
33:28That's the left. That's the right.
33:32A little bit more to the right. He's going to the right the whole time.
33:36Right there.
33:46We're on our way to a farm that I have one beehive, now two.
33:50I started growing an organic garden about 15 years ago in my yard.
33:54Here we are.
33:58I'm very allergic to bees. I went through a 10-year program of taking low-dose shots
34:02so I could build a tolerance up to the bees.
34:06I have gone into the hive with less protection, but I ended up getting stung that time, I think I remember.
34:10I mean, look at all the bees. I mean, I can literally take my hand and just scoop bees.
34:14These are Carnolian bees. They've just done unbelievable here this year.
34:18The bees' populations are being seriously threatened.
34:22By adding bees to my environment, I'm also improving the environment of the people that are around me.
34:26The big problem right now is people are afraid of bees.
34:30Bees are pretty docile as long as you don't upset them.
34:34They're not real happy with me right now.
34:38That's a lot of honey in there already.
34:42I love beekeeping. I just like being with the bees.
34:46That's the left. That's the right.
34:50A little bit more to the right. He's going to the right the whole time.
34:54Right there.
34:58Hit him. Hit him. Back it down. Back it down. Back it down.
35:02Back it down. Back it down.
35:06All right, Sean. Put him off our starboard side. Just a little touch.
35:10Just a little touch of starboard.
35:14He's coming up. Tail rope. Tail rope.
35:18There you go.
35:22That's the way we do it.
35:26Well done, boys. All right. Clear that tail rope. Clear my lines.
35:30Nice. Nice. Nice job, Captain.
35:34This is 100 even, maybe. 99.
35:38Excellent. Dang. That was perfect.
35:42The boat will actually lay right in with this wind.
35:46Nice day, yeah. Definitely beats coming home with nothing.
35:50Unwrap. Ready? So, two fish today.
35:54I mean, we're allowed five to get those two opportunities in to capitalize.
35:58That's big. These fish, they had some pretty good shape.
36:02You know, they're bigger fish. Take a little bit longer to fatten up.
36:06But what you might lack a little bit in the water,
36:10what you might lack a little bit in quality, you definitely make up for in size.
36:14Now let's see what they look like.
36:18All right, Tyler. You see here, it's not much fat. Really nice shape.
36:22Your fish looks really good. It's $14 a pound.
36:26Nice. All right? Yes, sir.
36:30This one here, this one a little skinny, a little bit dark in the middle.
36:34But that one's worth $13 a pound. Nice. All right. You want to plop the tails off and get a final weight?
36:38Let's steal a couple of finlets for genetics.
36:42I'm executive board member of the Bluefin Collaborative,
36:46and we are doing an extensive genetic study on bluefin,
36:50and we're using this to do close kin evaluation of eastern and western species.
36:54What do you got for a weight there, Sergio?
36:58What did it say? 137. Really good job, buddy.
37:02Keep going. Keep me busy.
37:06What's your final weight? I have a 438. All right, cool.
37:10Good job. Appreciate your business. Yeah. Good job. Yes!
37:14Nice. Right now, we're doing fine.
37:18I really don't look at it as a battle. We just go out and do what we can do every day.
37:22All right, Todd. We get to go home now, get some sleep, go out tomorrow morning, try to do it again.
37:36That should be good, Thomas. You heard him.
37:40Today was a great day. You know, we got two fish today, which puts us in striking distance.
37:44Okay. Oh, yeah. After a really slow start, you know,
37:48I feel like everybody was kind of sleeping on us, and we're able to turn it around,
37:52we're able to gel as a crew, and we're firing on all cylinders.
37:56Okay.
38:00What's up, Sergio? How you doing, buddy?
38:04Let me see how your fish looks like.
38:08All right, Sergio.
38:12How much we got on this one? 307 dress.
38:16307 dress. Roger, roger. You heard him.
38:20All right, Sergio. What was the dress weight on the second fish?
38:24For the second fish, 333 dress. 333. Yeah. Good job, buddy.
38:28All right. Let me tell you how the fish looks like, all right? Roger, roger.
38:32At this point in the season, I'm hoping that Sergio is able to see what I see,
38:36a good high fat content, oil, good color, because it's multiple fish days.
38:40These are the days that we really do some damage and rack up some serious money.
38:44So you can see some fat on the skin? Yep.
38:48How much he knows about it? 13 pounds. All right. Let me take a look in the second one, all right?
38:52Sounds good. All right, Sergio. What are we looking at in this tail cut here?
38:56All right, Nick. I got to tell you, this fish is no skinny longer.
39:00All right? There's not much fat yet, but there's some oil.
39:04Okay. It's got to show up, and there's some fatty on the skin.
39:08Right. It's got a good 12 bucks. 12 bucks? All right. All right, Sergio. I'll take it, man.
39:12How'd we do, Cap? All right.
39:16So the first fish was 307, and we got
39:2013 bucks a pound for it, so that's just under 4 grand.
39:24Second fish dressed out at 333, we got 12 bucks a pound for it,
39:28which is also just under 4 grand, so almost an $8,000 day.
39:32You guys should be proud of yourselves. I know I'm proud of you guys, but we'll take a paycheck
39:36for the day for sure, all right? Sounds good, Cap. I think Billy sent us that fish,
39:40and I think we've proven that we can continue on his legacy,
39:44and we're not done yet.
39:52The season's starting out wonderful. Who's better than Captain Hollywood?
39:56Just tell me. I don't know. I haven't seen it yet.
40:00Get this thing in a box and send it. I'm hoping this thing's choked with fat.
40:04Great shape on this fish, Billy.
40:08It's not about the size. It's about the shape, man.
40:12We're just hoping it's got some fat on it. We're hoping for a good price. Somewhere in the $15 range,
40:16we'll really be happy.
40:20Not great. A lot of red meat there. Yeah, I know. I'm not impressed.
40:24So much for sending that one tonight.
40:28Let's get a weight on him.
40:32What do we got? More than I thought. $290? No, $310.
40:36$310. Beautiful. Nice fish.
40:40Billy, you know what? On second glance, this fish looks all right.
40:44Got a little bit of fat in the minors and the majors here. Decent color.
40:48I'd say right around, surprisingly, we'll give you about $12 a pound on this one.
40:52This fish has got to be f***ing hot.
40:56That's nice. Thank you. Great job. Get a little fuel money for tomorrow.
41:00Ready to get out of this place? Yep. Hopefully we'll be back here tomorrow night.
41:04We'll be back. Frequent players, you know you.
41:08We're rolling. We've got another day tomorrow. We've got to go get him again.
41:12Another late night in paradise.
41:16Backed by his scientific method, Captain Tyler on the Cynthia C2
41:20takes back the lead for the first time since day one of the season.
41:24While Captain Nico on the Easy Dozen and his two-fish haul
41:28doubles the boat's fish caught this season.
41:32Leaving the top three boats neck and neck at the midway point of the season.
