A couple's culinary journey to success
Dr. Gerry and Grace Manalo's culinary journey began at their modest garage where they provided home-cooked meals to students from nearby boarding houses. What started as a small initiative began to grow as word spread about their delicious food and warm hospitality. Soon the expansion included their living room until on Feb. 8, 2005, Genaro was born, which stood for more than just a diner. Manalo, a city health officer in Santiago, Isabela, and Grace, a pharmacist, weathered the challenges of the business as they raised their five children to continue a legacy built on hard work and commitment.

00:00Hey, good morning, good afternoon.
00:27It's again another beautiful Sunday, this February 23.
00:31Imagine, today is February 23, 2025, and again, this is Butch Bartolomeo, the Business Mentor Talks over Manila Times.
00:40You know, these are, we have already exceeded our 50th episodes for 2024.
00:47Mind you, how fast, talaga, ang bilis ng panahon.
01:02At ang magpapaliwanag sa atin ay no other than the husband and wife, si Doc Cherry and Ms. Grace Manalo. Good morning to you po.
01:14Magandang umaga sa inyo.
01:16Magandang umaga sir Butch. Mabuti at naimbitahan mo kami sa inyong programa.
01:24Doc Cherry, congratulations, nagkaroon ka lang ng award for being a good example of a public health officer.
01:53So it's being a City Health Officer, mas siguro challenging yan nung ating panahon ng COVID diba?
02:00Sobrang challenging.
Ma'am Grace, good morning po.
02:14Yes sir, good morning po sir.
Kaya kami umabot ng 20 years.
02:3120 years. So paano nga ba kayo nagsimula ng magnegoso? Si Doc ay City Health Officer. At kayo Grace, ano pang inyong profession? Housewife? Rearing up the children?
We have 5 children po, 4 na lalaki and 1 girl.
03:08Buhay na buhay pala manalo Doc. Buhay na buhay, talagang panalo. So anyway, panalong-panalo. Tell us siguro ating viewers, ilan taong po ang papanganay at ilan taong punso?
03:24Ako na po sasagot yan sir. Bukang hindi memorized ng asawa ko.
03:29Bakit nila ba ganoon Doc Jerry? Mga lalaki nakakalimutan. Mga babae.
03:36Ang aming eldest son po is 36 years old. Siya po ngayon ay nasa Australia with his family. Ang second po ay 35. Ang third is 33.
Doc Jerry at Grace. But tell us, how does it feel now as parents of grown children? They're no longer kids, they're grown ups and I'm sure may apo na kayo. How does it feel looking back noong kayo nagsisimula?
04:24Kami masayang-masayang because we were able to raise them properly. At syempre ang maganda po ay nakikita po namin sila and they're doing fine with their own activities and job.
04:54Mga hagi niyong, pwede niyong sabihin sa ating mga nanonood, the beauty of being a parent.
We set the example of being hardworking parents.
05:43At the restaurant namin, we were able to provide them with syempre yung kanilang kailangan-kailangan.
06:31Was there a time you just said, let go? Pero was there a time you just said, sinabi mo, toke, pabayaan natin, let go kung kaya na nila?
08:14The reason I ask that is marami mga magulang nasa province, nag-aaral yung mga anak sa iba-ibang lugar, medyo kinakabahan. The control is still there. But because letting go and having faith, medyo lumakas sa loob ninyo.
Eto ay 20 years na if I'm not mistaken. So 20 years. Bakit ba kayo nakaisip maglagay? Kasi Grace, pharmacist ka naman. Si Doc naman ay city health officer. So siguro naman dapat nasa medical field ang inyong negosyo. Bakit napili yung pagkain?
09:08So, ako mismo po naging hands-on dyan.
09:38So, 20 years na.
One of the factors siguro po.
11:3620 years ago? 2005 po nasa mga 12-15,000. Kasi karinderya lang ang inupisahan namin noon.
11:54Q1. Nagsimula ka sa karinderya?
12:24Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito. Dito.
